A attended a function at the Geoge Hotel on 2nd December with my two daughters. The room was set out beautifully and the staff were friendly and helpful. When the food arrived it was awful. They had cooked up the vegetables from the night before and they were not edible. It was disgusting. I complained at the time and the waiter reported my complaint to the chef. He came back and said he took my complaint on board and would promise to improve next time. I said that was okay but what about the meal they served today? They replaced the meal with exactly the same cooked up vegetables, please see the pictures. The rest of the evening was good, everyone had a good time and the music was nostelgic and happy. I can highly recommend the carvery at the George. It is excellent value and the food is very good. The staff very very friendly, courteous, and the atmosphere cosy. We thoroughly enjoyed a family Sunday lunch there.

We hosted an event here recently . Everything went smoothly . The staff were excellent nothing was too much trouble . The food was delicious . The room was warm bed v comfortable and the breakfast was very good .Can’t thank you all enough for making our evening a memorable event .

I can not reccommand that hotel. I stayed there a few nights the hotel did not do a room service. At the reception I was always told they will arrange - but nothing happend - 4 days (!) no changing of towls, linen etc. this is unacceptable for a 3*- hotel

Limited parking on site so get there early. Request a room not on the second floor unless you like carrying your cases up two flights of stairs. The standard rooms are adequate and the breakfasts are adequate too.

I arrived at the hotel much later than expected due to travel delays. My experience was very positive and I cannot fault the staff for their warm welcome and overall it was a very relaxing stay. I will definitely stay here again when visiting the area!

Great location in centre of town but is opposite a bar that is open till 0300 at the weekend so be prepared for some noise if you get a room on the front. We were in room 50 (on the front) which is on the 2nd floor and next to a fire door onto the staircase. The room was a twin room and was very clean. Slightly dark due to the dark carpet and decoration so did need the light on all the time. Is looking a little outdated and old fashioned and could do with a bit of a revamp and bringing up to date. There was a heater in the corner that seemed to blow out warm air even when we switched it off. Not able to unplug it as it was hard wired into the wall. The room was pretty hot and so we had to have the window open most of the time. There was a fan in the wardrobe to use (but prefer fresh air). Great to have an iron/ironing board. Only 1 packet of biscuits for 2 people is not very generous! We did get a little noise at times with people slamming the door and standing on the landing chatting outside our door. Beds very comfy and slept really well until the fire alarm went off in the morning, so we had to jump out of bed - get dressed and made it downstairs with other guests - it was a false alarm. We are ideally situated, but with being a city centre hotel, we are exposed to exterior noise disturbances out of our control and I am sorry if this disturbed your sleep. Our rooms are decorated differently to your usual hotel rooms, but is in keeping with the history of the building and adds to the character. I want to also apologise for the false alarm, which went off and awoke you. These do happen from time to time, but rest assured we have our team on hand to assist if this happened to be a real one. Dined in only. It was very busy. Had a 30/40 min wait for food which we didn't mind. When the food arrived it looked lovely, it just wasn't that hot Excellent service from a young member of staff called Shona.

Having booked a table for six for 2nd December believing I had booked the Christmas themed table with carvery . I had my concerns having heard that things where being reviewed on a daily bassi’s. Needless to say things for my booking where under review. I could not get through on the phone and having completed their chat option again no one contacted me. Moral! If you have a booking! I recently hosted an event for clients of my business and The George provided a faultless service from start to finish. The Garrick Room was beautifully laid out. All the staff were efficient, friendly and attentive and Stacey Johnson provided perfect organisation from the initial enquiry to the close of the event. I can highly recommend.
