Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had an utterly brilliant lunch in the lounge as part of a special birthday weekend. I cannot fault anything. The party included all the elements for chaos (including a 2 and 4 year old) but it was simply perfect. Really friendly and genuine staff, and a lovely varied menu which suited everyone, all in a seriously impressive and comfortable group of sofas etc.

Hotel's Favourite
It was our first stay at the Wentworth and it's not difficult to understand why this lovely hotel attracts a loyal following of regular visitors. The public areas are traditionally but stylishly decorated , with some attractive artwork on the walls. Parking was easy and the standard of service was excellent throughout our stay. We had a light and airy corner room on the second floor which provided beautiful views over the beach and along the coast. Breakfast was waiter service only - but our order was taken promptly and the service was efficient and friendly. The breakfast itself was excellent - freshly cooked and tasty. Sadly no kippers on the breakfast menu that morning . We would certainly stay again on any future visits to the Suffolk coast.

Many thanks for posting a review of your recent stay and for the complimentary comments about the hotel and the services you received. Apologies about the lack of kippers for breakfast. They are normally available and hopefully we can offer you them should you return to the Wentworth.

This was our second visit and we hope to return. Its position on the coast is stunning. The building is beautiful and the rooms feel modern and old fashioned all at the same time. Our first trip was in an inland facing room. Our return visit was in a sea facing room. This was substantially more expensive and disappointingly didn’t have the air con the inland room had. Opening the window just caused very many flies into the bedroom mainly due to pigeons directly outside the window. The restaurant is excellent. The menu has a great choice, fabulous mussels!! Breakfast is good and all served at the table. It can be a little slow but this isn’t the type of place to be in a hurry.

Fantastic stay at The Wentworth. Great location for exploring Aldeburgh and Southwold. Lovely room (bedroom and separate sitting room) overlooking the sea. Quiet with very comfortable bed. Bathroom well appointed and very clean. It’s 25 years since my last stay at the hotel and it’s as good now as it was then. Beautiful decor, lovely service, great staff. Open fires and beautiful public rooms are a delight. We had dinner bed and breakfast and the food was first class. I used to think of the bar at The Wentworth as one of my favourite places to be - it still is. Thanks to everyone who makes the experience so special.

Absolutely first class 3 days at The Wentworth. Hadn't been before as it is difficult to find a hotel with proper wheelchair accessible rooms etc. This room was the best we have ever stayed in, facilities ideal. We knew before we went that there were steps into the hotel, but no problem at all as there are ramps and plenty of staff to push you up them!! All the staff were so professional, friendly, couldnt do enough and the food was far above our expectations. The cleanliness intrigued my husband as it was very clean but nobody appeared to be cleaning (I could do with staff like that at home!!) The other main appreciation was the number of places to sit and relax - again another bonus not found in too many hotels nowadays - especially as this is right on the front overlooking the sea. The only downside is, we tried to book for our 60th wedding anniversary in March next year and the room is already booked..... so had to book for May instead. Cant wait to return. Thank you Wentworth for a very memorable stay.

Very strange aggressive and confrontational barman who misheard or didn't understand my order, consequently got it wrong and then persisted with arguing about it instead of just apologising and giving me what I asked for. Poor service and inhospitable.

For a 3 star hotel it offers outstanding views of Aldeburgh seafront, good food, excellent rooms, comfy lounges, afternoon teas, good bathrooms, experienced and charming staff and lots of repeat business I'm sure. A beautiful town and a proud family run business at competitive prices, in our opinion.

Many thanks for reviewing your recent stay with us. We do indeed get an awful lot of repeat business at the hotel, with many of our regular guests returning on a regular basis. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us and we look forward to welcoming you on any future visits to Aldeburgh.

As there was no manager or such in front of house, I feel this is my only option to make people aware of the very slow and unfriendly service we received. We came for afternoon tea and sat outside. very few customers around at this time (afternoon tea time). We had to go in and ring for service. Gave our order and asked for table to be cleared which did not happen after asking twice. When asking for table to be cleared we were told that it would be done when they could. Very abrupt and dismissive. We then had to wait for over 30 minutes for one sandwich and one cream tea. Waiter was also very unhelpful about clearing table or advising us on when our food would arrive. No tables were cleared until food was delivered. Seagulls were landing on tables scattering things everywhere. Assuming short staffed, but that is no excuse for being dismissive and unfriendly, all that was needed was an apology, and if they were short staffed then tell us so and that food may take a little longer. There was not even an apology when food arrived. Good service is vital for us when eating out, and this Hotel severely lack this. Such a shame as a beautiful setting on the sea front.

Response from Michael Pritt, Owner at The Wentworth Hotel
Responded 14 Sept 2023
Dear Sue Burwell, Thank you for your review on Trip Advisor. I am sure that you have read other reviews of the hotel and are aware that your experience is far from typical. Not that I am disputing that what you describe happened, only that it is far from typical, and as such deserves even more abject apology to you for letting ourselves down so badly on the occasion of your visit. The Wentworth has a long standing reputation for excellence but as you have demonstrated that can be demolished by a single unfortunate experience. I have no excuses, the staff member you encountered reacted to your requests and queries in a totally unacceptable fashion, made even sadder by the fact that he can be, on occasions, a highly valuable member of the team. I apologise on his behalf and on behalf of the rest of the staff who strive hard every day to look after our guests in the manner which they are accustomed to being treated. I hope that one day you will see fit to try the Wentworth again and will leave having had a totally different experience. Michael Pritt Proprietor

Traditional Hotel, Family run and you can tell. 2nd floor sea view room must have been recently refurbished. Gazing out to sea from the room was so relaxing. Aldbrough is a pleasant town to walk along and return to comfort and good food, we will return, go now before anything changes!
