Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a lovely place. Excellently clean and comfortable rooms with super cosy beds. I’ve stayed serval times and never been disappointed. The breakfast is also excellent, I can recommend the smoked salmon. Care must be taken driving into the carpark, as it’s a narrow entrance. There were 4x4’s in the carpark so manageable.

This little hotel is so perfectly placed - minutes from the Cathedral. My friend and I couldn’t find one negative. Staff lovely , bedroom nice size and very clean as was the bathroom. The breakfast was well cooked and delicious. We were allowed into our room before 11am as we got there early which was a nice touch. A car park was most welcome as nearby parking I can imagine would be expensive. Thank you Chantry!!!!!

Absolutely delightful place to stay. Beautiful hotel, so close to the centre. Everyone there made us feel so welcome. Also, a big plus is that it is dog friendly! I would recommend the hotel to everyone.

A really nice hotel. The room was spacious, spotless and comfortable. Breakfast very good, felt like someone had taken some care over it, as is the case for the rest of the hotel. My colleagues all stayed at the Premier Inn round the corner and weren't impressed, I landed lucky with the Chantry and would highly recommend. Very central as well, good pub round the corner.

Room Tip: The old cannon brewery is well worth searching out. Cheers to eat steak is good. Bills to eat...

We booked the hotel as a group of 3 couples for an overnight stay in June. The hotel really was located perfectly just minutes from the town centre so ideal for daytime and evening. The owners were very friendly, it was totally relaxed, really comfortable and we all had a really nice breakfast. I would highly recommend this hotel if you fancy a trip to the beautiful town of Bury St Edmunds.

Room good but 'strange smell' lingered even with windows left open. They do allow dogs!? Well suited and easy access to town on foot, good parking on site. No evening meals, we rec. The Angel!! just a few minutes walk away. Great breakfasts, plenty of options. Host could be more convivial?? Nice lady but not engaging! ;-(

We recently spent two nights at the Chantry staying with our pet dog, who was made very welcome. We stayed in a Deluxe room in the Annexe giving us access to a lovely separate lounge area. The hotel is very well furnished, fitting to the hotel’s character and is spotlessly clean. There is a welcoming lounge and very bright and roomy breakfast room. The breakfast was delicious too. The hotel is located a short walk to the very centre of the town and very close to the Abbey Gardens. Great to have access to free and adequately spaced parking on site at the hotel too. If you prefer to stay at a smaller hotel this is a real gem of a hotel.

We very much enjoyed staying in the Chantry. It’s a lovely Georgian building and our bedroom was very comfortable. Being tall, a king sized bed is a must and this one was ideal, making for a good nights sleep. It was a short walk to the Theatre Royal and the breakfast was quite superb. The pot of coffee on arrival was much appreciated. A perfect one night stay in Bury St Edmunds.

Lovely place. The room was spotless and very comfortable. Facilities included an ironing board and an iron. Parking was very easy. The hotel has a bar but no restaurant, however it is in a central location with restaurants and pubs in walking distance. A delicious breakfast made to order was included .

This is a wonderful 18th C hotel.. we were lucky to get a last minute room .. & even though I’m nearly always strictly a double bed & bathtub person our twin with a shower for one night was luxurious! We had every thing we needed facilities wise.. beds comfy & pillows divine! Best of all was the friendly atmosphere & delicious breakfast.. looking forward to trying room with bath next time! Highly recommended
