The hotel at Bury St Edmunds North is new and we had not stayed there before. On arrival we found that it is located right beside the busy A14, with lorries thundering by. We were very glad we'd phoned the hotel and requested a quiet room, because Sophie, whom we spoke to, said the front of the hotel was quieter and so she would allocate us a room at the front. That was good because the front of the hotel faces away from that road, & also the double glazing was effective in drowning out most of the traffic noise. We did notice a sound like distant cicadas which seemed to be coming from the heating/ventilation vent in the ceiling, but it was a minor irritation. It is good that there is ample free parking and provision for electric vehicle charging, all at the front of the hotel. It is also a plus that there are USB charging points on each side of the bed. All the STAFF were EXCELLENT: friendly, cheerful & helpful. The big disappointment is that, although the bed is as comfortable as usual and there is an extra pillow available and the usual TV screen on the wall, the SIZE of the rooms & of the bathrooms has been much reduced from the size in other Premier Inns we've stayed at. I reckon they've crammed in as many rooms as possible in the space available, to the detriment of customer comfort. There is now insufficient space between the foot of the bed & the wall it faces. It is infinitely better to have the desk & drinks shelf against that wall at the foot of the bed, as in other Premier Inns, instead of, as here, on one side of the bed. All other Premier Inns we've stayed at have had a bath, so the size of the bathroom has been as long as the bath. Now, with only a shower cubicle, the bathroom is so small that the toilet can't be used without banging one's arm against the toilet roll dispenser. The shower cabinet is badly designed because water leaks on to the bathroom floor through the gap between the door and the fixed shower screen. One then has to paddle through the water on the bathroom floor. It is glaringly obvious that a larger fixed screen & NO door into the shower cabinet would be so much better. Also the pictures on the walls, as in every other Premier Inn we have used, are such an eyesore. Why does Premier Inn persist in having such poor pictures on the walls? At Stratford upon Avon Waterways they have for years been "flowers" which are just ugly red and orange daubs. It would be so much better to replace them with pictures of some of the myriad beautiful places in & around Stratford. At Bury St Edmunds North, it would be a huge improvement if the existing unattractive pictures were replaced with pictures of the abbey & the beautiful Suffolk countryside. The Meal Deal at Bury St Edmunds North during our stay was very poor in comparison with other Premier Inns we've stayed at, because the choice was so limited. It is unacceptable to offer only 2 curries, one pasta dish & one pizza as Mains. We were told this was because of staff shortages and equipment shortages. Fortunately the breakfast was as plentiful as usual.

We stayed here one Friday evening in October.

We ate in the restaurant and although the menu is more limited, we found the food tasty and adequate for what we needed that evening.

Like other customers, we had read about the windows not opening, and found this to be the case in our room (we double checked with reception that there was no way they opened). Additionally there was a net curtain between the 2 panes of glass which made me feel quite claustrophobic. Luckily we didn't have any issues with our air con - which we kept on all night at the maximum level of 'cold'.

The room was smaller than normal, and the bathroom was small with only 1 large towel - we managed .....

The following morning we went to the Starbucks next door for a coffee - I was then surprised to see at least 3 rooms had their windows open.... so there are some inconsistencies in the "shut and locked window approach "

For us, the convenience of the location worked and made it an 'OK' stay. Its a shame as its a new hotel and has great potential if the air con / window issue could be resolved.

Hard to criticise this hotel as it represents such great value. The bed was very comfortable, you just sink into the pillows. The tv was enormous and the room spacious and quiet. The shower was a real power shower and the water just the right temperature as some hotels seem to only have warm not hot water.
One minor problem and thankfully I am not overweight, but the door to the shower is not very wide, I guess the door opening must have been trialled beforehand but I do wonder if some people would have real difficulty getting in.
There is a bar as well as hot food which can also be brought to your room, staff available 24 hours of the day and plenty of parking right outside the hotel. The A14 may be close but you hear nothing even if you are that side of the hotel. A large Tesco supermarket is just yards away plus Bury St Edmunds town centre is only a short walk from the hotel.

I stayed at this hotel when it was a Travelodge and thought it would be interesting to see what PI had done with it since taking over.
Having not had a very good experience with Premier Inn’s other Bury St. Edmunds branch I thought I would give the relatively new hotel a try, not such a good idea as it turned out.

It is situated a little further out of town but is only 2 minutes off the A14, very close to a big supermarket and has a coffee shop close by.

There are two car parks, use the front one as the rear was dark due to some lights being out, and was full of builders vans. 3 vehicles took up 11 spaces such was the poor parking. Free parking, enter your registration at reception.

On arrival the hotel front doors were not working and locked shut. I had to wait for a staff member to open them!!

Staff members who checked me in were apologetic and very helpful.

The room is what you would expect from PI. It was clean, comfortable bed, good shower and my room overlooked the front car park but was not unduly noisy.

When I stayed here under Travelodge ownership the windows opened and fresh air abounded. PI have now sealed the windows, so no fresh air is possible. Each time I ask at a PI why they seal the windows I get a different answer so now I don’t bother.

Despite the temperature outside being -2 degrees amazingly the room heater was blasting out cold air, set to ‘cool’ it said, and was not adjustable!!!
Off to reception who told me ‘we can try to change it from the main control but the room numbers don’t match so it is pot luck, it has been like this for months’ I was told.
After 3 visits they got mine to ‘heat’ but I still could not alter it from the temperature they set.

So, you pay for your room yet cannot control the fresh air or the heating. Both were possible when it was a Travelodge.

I did not try the restaurant as ‘a limited menu’ was on offer and after my last experience of a PI I was taking no chances.

There are plenty of other options for accommodation in BSE, most can sort you out with parking if needed, so I would advise doing a little research and avoid PI until it starts putting its customers first again.

I recently had the pleasure of staying here and would like to share why I think if your in this area you should stay.

Having had a tiring drive the first thing was just how welcoming the staff were. Genuine smiles and very Imformative nothing seemed to be any trouble.
As a single traveller I went to my room and the first thing I noticed was just how clean and tidy the room was.
Im still slightly paranoid about Covid but the cleanliness of the room gave me confidence that the hotel was doing everything to keep guests safe
The bed was amazing and I slept like a baby.
In the morning I decided to have breakfast where I was greeted warmly and the breakfast was explained there was an abundant of choice and I was told I could have as much as I wanted (as someone who enjoys breakfast wow). Even the chef was cheerful and unlike some hotel groups I wasn't made to feel rush
I would humbly suggest if your down Bury St Edmunds stay here actually a no brainer and very competively priced

Throughout our stay the room was not cleaned after asking the staff every day to clean the room and being advised it would be. No towels or toilet roll. The bed was not made upon arrival. Rubbish left in the room from previous occupants.

Myself and family booked a family room for one night whilst visiting relatives nearby, was concerned that the room maybe a little bit crowded but was pleasantly surprised. Had everything we needed for a good nights sleep. Booked a table for 12 people for breakfast in the morning and was pleased it wasn't too much trouble, adults and kids were happy with all you can eat, thank you to Jenny who got us all sat together (I know it can be a pain when a group booking comes in) and thank you to mason (hope that's right) who got us some extra pancakes - 5 kids that absolutely love them soon went through what was out on the side! We will be back soon 😊

We stayed a Saturday and Sunday night in late September.

Checking in was a major drama. We arrived around 5.15pm after receiving confirmation check in was from 4pm. We were greeted by a very friendly young guy who told us unfortunately the room wasn’t ready and told us of the staffing issues they were facing.

We explained we needed to get ready as we had a reservation made for the evening and asked how long. He disappeared off upstairs to find out whilst we waited.

Another lady came to greet up who then tried to contact the gentleman but informed all the walky talkies had run out of batteries. He returned and informed us it would be around 20/30 minutes and we were given complimentary drinks.

The room was clean and tidy, however, was absolutely red hot. The windows were locked closed for safety reasons but surely restrictors could be fitted to help this problem.

The bed was comfy and the only thing thay stopped a great nights sleep was the heat. It was quiet and there was no noise disruption.

The staff helped with taxi numbers and as free phone in reception informed us they had no cabs working in the area on a Saturday night!

All in all not a bad stay, but more organisation ok the staffing side is needed and get some air conditioning!

The staff team is very small and I was amazed at how versatile they were during the weekend that we stayed there for a nearby Wedding Anniversary Celebration. Special mention to Duty Manager Kirstie who went that "Extra Mile" to ensure that our stay was very enjoyable. I had paid for 2 meal deals when I only needed one and she sorted that out for me without problems ( as I had lost out on accommodation costs on another trip to a different location , by arriving on the wrong day, the small adjustment on cost was appreciated!). I also had a major problems getting a cab to the celebration that we had travelled for South of London to be at. The hard pressed staff gave me lots of alternative cab numbers to ring, but we would have missed the sit down meal, and wasted our trip, if Kirstie hadn't managed to come up trumps again with a suitable number. Well done the team. Premier Inn management, you may want to think about laying on an extra staff member to take the strain off of this excellent team!

This is a new Premier Inn and the room size is much smaller than their normal size to the point where the Bathroom is claustrophobic.
The room was very clean and well presented on arrival but was not cleaned again over my two night stay.
Having signed up for the meal package, the evening menu was very poor and the Chile and Curry were disgusting, the Breakfast however was the normal standard.
Overall disappointing for the price.
