Had a meal with friends on Saturday 12th June and was more than impressed. The asparagus starter with duck egg was delicious and we all had the stone bass for main and were more than satisfied. My friend is a good cook and says she is always disappointed with some restaurants as she could cook the dishes herself. She said that she would not be able to cook what we were served which is a good accolade. Thoroughly recommend 👍

We recently stayed here on the hottest day of the year so far, and received a friendly greeting on arrival, with info given regarding the hotel. Our room was on the top floor ( two flights of stairs) There are 10 rooms in total and I don’t think there are any ground floor rooms, and no lift, so a word of warning for anyone who finds stairs a problem. We had a cosy nicely furnished small room, but unfortunately no one had thought as this being such a hot day, to pre open the windows before our arrival which would have been very much appreciated as it was boiling hot inside. There was no fan supplied in the room, but after opening the window, we were lucky to enjoy a decent breeze throughout our stay so didn’t go ask for a fan at the time. My husband did mention why wasn’t one already in the room, when we checked out. He was told they have them on request. Sorry but surely common sense says on the hottest day of the year, someone could have thought to put one in the room beforehand. It would have been really appreciated. The hotel wasn’t fully booked, so it would have been simple. At a quality hotel such as this, we shouldn’t have to ask. A few smaller niggles. No glasses or tissue box in bathroom. ( please don’t say due to covid this was why. We have stayed at three other hotels post hotel lockdown, and all supplied these with no problem) Also a pet hate, no shelf for toothbrushes, deodorant etc above the sink. Forced to put items on toilet cistern which we hate. There was a small table beyond the toilet holding the towels, but that was all. A lovely selection of toiletries ( they stay in the room). Quality towels, and bedding, and a good complimentary coffee/tea /water tray, but sadly no biscuits. Everything was lovely and clean in these covid times, with hand sanitiser offered throughout the hotel. Unfortunately the hotel ( and our room) is situated next to an extremely busy road. ( The road to Clare). A bypass has been built, but regardless, it was constantly busy, early morning too, and with the window open it didn’t help. I don’t think anyone would oversleep if staying in this room. Our sleep was fitful. At dinner, we chose the steak and hand cut chips for £25.50. The meat was very tender, and accompanied by a small bowl of chips. No garnish at all, and any further accompaniments were an extra charge of £4 each. Sadly no complimentary bread offering to start our meal either unless paid for. Desserts were fine, although for around £8 still weren’t overly generous. Personally we felt pricing was high for what was offered. A 10% extra service charge on the whole bill too, which we never feel is justified as we strongly prefer to give gratuity personally which is much fairer, and always do this instead. Breakfast next morning ( after a busy early morning traffic wake up!) was much better. Full English was delicious and more plentiful ( a little more toast would have been good, without having to ask for it further, as two thin small triangles given each). The manager ? who took care of us at breakfast was cheery and friendly, making sure we didn’t want for anything which was great. All in all it was a mixed bag. For a hotel offering a quality stay, there were some niggles that could so easily be sorted out. Thanks to all the team though, who were lovely, friendly and cheerful during our stay. Unsure if we would return in future.

Unfortunately this was a restaurant that thought putting together a selection of interesting ingredients automatically made interesting meals - wrong. Both were unappetising and poorly cooked. My asparagus was so woody that 2 of the 3 spears were mainly inedible. It was also overpriced in my opinion - 2.50 for 3 half slices of bread, as an example. Two days before we had a wonderful meal at the Black Pepper in Buckingham and again tonight at Nans in Nottingham so don’t bother with the likes of the Black Lion in Medford.

We had the most wonderful stay at this charming b&b and so much more than a b&b. Perfect family room with direct access down to the beautiful outside terrace meant we could meet friends for dinner and our older kids could chill out in their room while us adults took a bit longer. I have to say the bed and sheets were heaven and I’m very very particular about my sheets and slept so well! There wasn’t any storage options in the room We had the most fantastic breakfast options on both days and the service was beyond any expectations from all the staff. Fabulous evening meal was had by all and food was really special. It was a charming stay and we thoroughly loved the ambience and warmth of this little gem in Suffolk! We cannot wait to be back.

Went for lunch , the food was below par and the service was awful. They were not that busy which means staff should be attentive. They seemed more interested chatting to each other and complaining about one of their managers in earshot of our table.
