The Bedford Lodge Hotel is a well run, quality hotel. Set near the centre of Newmarket the hotel is an oasis of quiet efficiency. On site parking is good. The staff at reception are professional and welcoming. You are immediately aware of a well managed hotel. Reception is intimate and well appointed. It reflects the cleanliness of the whole hotel. Our King room was spotless and very well equipped. The dining options are good and the quality of the food reflects the Suffolk location, all locally sourced. The waiting staff actually look as if they enjoy looking after you. It is not cheap but you get what you pay for. We were slightly caught out by the 12.5% service charge that was added. When there are 11 of you, an additional 12.5% can have a significant impact on the bill. After a good nights sleep in comfortable beds with none of the normal hotel noises to bother you, it was time for breakfast. The breakfast is excellent. The full English is served at your table, the continental is via a buffet. It was a relaxing start to the day.
The swimming pool in the hotel is open to hotel guests, the Spa is at extra cost, is kept at a nice temperature and includes a jacuzzi and sauna. We have stayed at many hotels that are more expensive than the Bedford Lodge that did not match up to this experience. The management and staff should be congratulated for the ambience and efficiency of the hotel. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone.

On reading the first couple of reviews following lockdown I was slightly worried but from start to finish, our one night stay was beyond superb. Our stay was pushed back from December last year and over the lockdown period, with various changes, we have been ably supported by Gemma, who along with the rest of the team wowed us throughout. The executive rooms are excellent, with us being based at the front of the building - everything you could think of was in the rooms from coffee machine to cafetière, bathrobes and luxurious Molton Brown products in the huge bathrooms.

All the staff we met were exceptional with a big shout out to Victoria who gave us such a great welcome to the F&B manager that oversaw the bar and restaurant to Elizabeth who left us with such a great impression of what a great team they have here.

Managed a couple of cocktails on the terrace before dining in Squires - huge portions and a solid choice of options from fine dining to lighter bites. Coffee served in the bar was made all the better for the cookies served alongside.

The whole stay seemed very covid compliant and I very much feel that from start to finish, all was above par.

I am shocked having read some of the other reviews as to whether they stayed in the same place as my Partner and I. We did a three night stay here from 15th -18th December. We also added on the ritual spa experience as an additional.

Upon arrival the grounds were very well kept and you could tell that you were arriving somewhere that was well cared for. The staff at check in were friendly directed us to our room, a positive first impression. It is always nice to be greeted with happy faces rather than the face of someone not wanting to be there (which is more common than you would believe!)

Our room was pleasantly surprising as we had opted for a double room and were really happy with the size and design of the room. There was also a comfy big bed! the bathroom was spotless and the little Molton Brown toiletries were a really nice touch. The coffee and tea making facility was brilliant too, plenty of choice and high end tea brands.

We had a few drinks in the bar, the staff were so friendly and helpful. They were more than happy to advise on all that the hotel and local town had to offer. I tried the newmarket rhubarb gin upon a barmaids recommendation and was not disappointed it was very good! My only sadness is I did not bring a bottle home. The food in the restaurant was exceptional, we shared a chateaubriand and this was cooked to perfection. Thumbs up to the chef! The staff were once again brilliant, attentive and nothing was too much.

Breakfast was a vast selection with a choice of freshly cooked breakfasts too. We tried a bit of everything and it was the best breakfast choice that we had this year, we have stayed in a few hotels and this was by far the best.

We also visited the spa, it is a shame you have to pay for this separately but we do understand it is separate. The steam room wasn't working but they opened up the rasaul room instead. The lunch was simple but delicious, just the right amount in order to float around in the hydrotherapy pool or relax in the outside hot tub.

The location was excellent as it was a short walk into Newmarket town which had lots of restaurants and shops to visit. We also visited the National Horse Museum which was a highlight.

Thank you to all at Bedford Spa we hope to return in the future.

Kindest Regards Emily and Phillip x

Hotel was beautiful, staff super friendly and professional.

Arrived early checked quickly.

Room ok not amazing. Room service was a disappointment. Ordered grilled chicken, came after 15 mins which is very telling that it was pre cooked.

Lovely hotel, room service over priced.

We booked this hotel as we was visiting friends in the area and wanted somewhere with leisure facilities what they don’t tell you is they have a new spa which is £60 per person extra if you want to use it but if you just use the hotel facilities all you get is an overcrowded small pool which was cold, 4 wooden sun loungers around the side with NO CUSHIONS and very uncomfortable and a steam room that barely works.

We find it most unusual a hotel that makes out its luxurious cannot buy decent comfortable chairs to relax on instead of what they provide which are cheap rubbish. The owners have no regard for their guests and just take money over charging for poor facilities look elsewhere.

Stayed for a night and did not feel the room was 4* standard. The room and bathroom felt dated, the desk was filthy. It was clearly a double occupancy room, only 1 bathrobe was in the room when we arrived. We went to reception to ask for a second so we could go to the swimming pool and after waiting over 30minutes, gave up waiting. All things you wouldn't expect from a 4* hotel and almost £200 a night!
The pool area I felt was misleading, upon booking on the phone we were told we had access to everything, but treatments. Upon arrival we found out access to all their lovely marketing pictures of their spa pool was an extra £70 a person! Did not feel this was clearly detailed there was an additional fee for hotel guests.
The restaurant and breakfast were the highlight of the stay but not worth staying in the hotel for it.
Would not recommend or go back, particularly given how expensive it was for a lackluster the room/health club.

From the minute we arrived I knew we were in for a magnificent stay. Staying between Christmas and New year, we had such a relaxing time. The hotel is spotlessly clean, the facilities terrific including little details such as a bose sound system you can play Bluetooth device music through in your room. We stayed in room 235 and the room was huge and very comfortable. I have always been a big fan of Marriott beds and this was equally as good and gave us a very good couple of nights sleep. The dining at the hotel is superb in terms of quality and choice and the service is unquestionably the best I have encountered in a hotel in the UK. Thank you to all the staff from the reception team, the housekeeping team, waiters etc. They are all a credit to the hotel.

On arrival we were greeted by a lovely member of the spa staff and offered a nice warm flannel. We were then shown into the spa area and all the details regarding our stay were explained. She also provided us with some essential passes and a spa plan. Spa towels, robes, slippers and a bottle of water were in our lockers ready for us. Although we were unable to use most of the amenities due to COVID, for example the sauna and steam room, we enjoyed the Hydrotherapy pool and made the most of that. The Jacuzzi was also off-limits. However, this was because of weather damage. We then proceeded to have lunch which was enjoyable, staff were really attentive and gifted us with an anniversary plate from the chef and some other other lovely touches. The full body massages we received were very relaxing, it was a nice feature having a relaxation room to go to after. We then checked into our room in the hotel, where we enjoyed the prosecco provided. The room was clean no complaints. Tea and coffee was provided and the fridge stocked with water. We went to dinner in the restaurant which was very pleasant and quaint, staff were very attentive, service was quick and the food was delicious. Our compliments to the chef! Breakfast again was in the restaurant and no complaints, same as the previous evening attentive staff, good food and quick service. Very enjoyable spa break.

Me and my wife booked a package deal for £370 for our anniversary which includes 3 hours in the Spa your hotel room and a meal voucher. The Spa is quite nice but very basic with a tiny hot tub on the roof which isn’t anything special. After using the spa we had lunch and I ordered 2 glasses of Prosecco which we were charged for even though they knew it was a special occasion and we had paid a substantial amount anyway.

We then waited until 4pm to check into our room which is their rules even though it was a quiet Thursday in November. Once in the room it was well below our expectations. The furniture was very outdated and at least 20 years old. There was an old style tv on a stand and not on the wall and guess what it didn’t work so I had to phone reception to get an engineer. There was hardly any plug sockets in the room and none next to the bed where you want them. The bathroom is was ordinary with an old style shower in the bath. The hairdryer was a cheap small thing that wouldn’t of cost more than a fiver and looked like it might blow up.

In the evening we went to the restaurant as the bar area was full as it’s not that big they only serve 2 lagers in there Peroni and some Adams rubbish. On the menu this is when it really becomes a joke Steak £41 . Chicken £25 and you have to pay £5 extra for each vegetable on top so potatoes and greens extra £10. Apart from that all the main meals consisted of was Salmon, Hake and a vegetarian meal (not much choice) . There was a group of 30 drunken men on a stag night causing a disturbance.

Once we went to bed we was woken at 1.30am by these drunken idiots locked out of their room shouting and being a nuisance opposite us. This whole place needs money spent on it (apparently before the pandemic the owners bought the Rutland Hotel in town and thought they would spend money doing that up so they make even more money) not worrying about doing this place up which is in a desperate state.

On the whole this place needs a lot of money spent on it and a bigger restaurant and bar area and they need to lower the prices we are not all rich race horse owners from abroad ! Funnily enough they posted my bill under the door at 4am and guess what nothing was missed out one night costing £500. We won’t be back be warned !!!

We booked a family break for 3 night for £650 for an executive suite with a double bed separate living area for our two children with two single beds and two TVs which we confirmed twice with the person we placed the booking with, when we arrived we were given a standard room with a double bed and sofa bed with one tv and no separate living area but on top of that then charged £740….when we questioned it the staff were extremely rude and asked where our proof was! We placed the booking the day before and provided our email address for confirmation this was never sent. The first night we visited the hotel restaurant the service was terrible and after 15 minutes of waiting had to ask for our plates to be cleared. We booked this hotel to use the spa facilities, we walked over to the spa to find out it was closed, no-one told us this. We went to the swimming pool which we were told the children could use until 5.30pm to be told that there was a class for an hour and we could not use it at this time. Horrendous and extremely rude staff, would never visit again.
