First and foremost I would like to publicly thank Jill the proprietor of this awesome guest house for all her efforts in making my stay as welcoming and comfortable as I could possibly experience - it far exceeded my expectations. This Lady goes beyond the call of duty in my opinion to ensure your stay is more than satisfactory. Apart from the beautiful scenery and immaculate cleanliness throughout a most enjoyable cooked breakfast is on offer here should you wish for one. Continental breakfast 🥞 is also selective with a warm friendly home environment at breakfast time. Jill’s manners are impeccable and the fact that I arrived much later in the evening than scheduled I was still accommodated and checked into my room with help and ease. A true professional. I would certainly have no hesitation in returning. Therefore I rate my stay with a 5 star ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ plus ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

I stayed at Chart House in June 2019 for a week, and despite life being very hectic since my return to Australia after my 6 weeks UK visit, I have been determined to write a Chart House review. I endorse the other Reviews about the cleanliness, the beautiful large garden and much else that was positive.
After massive preparations for my trip to the UK, leaving some family behind in Australia; and the considerable flight between Sydney & UK, I arrived at Chart House absolutely exhausted. In fact, I was ready to get on the first plane back with no energy for this UK trip, specifically made for a family event.
I booked the large bedroom with sink and shared bathroom; and it cheered me no end to settle down into this charming, airy, big room with small windows out to the expansive, well cared for garden. I found myself in a spacious, very pleasant environment after hours in an airplane; and had avoided the prospect of busy, noisy, complicated London.
The first afternoon I fell fast asleep for hours, in the TV room, oblivious of the TV blaring (Did Have trouble getting my TV to operate.). In fact during my week's stay I did sleep a lot, interspersed with trips by train up to London to meet family for outings. I truly enjoyed chats each morning around the breakfast table, meeting others from various parts of the world, but respect given to those who were disinclined to breakfast chatter.
I was not an enthusiastic traveller, but my time with Jill at Chart House was ideal, to help me recuperate from the efforts actually to make it to UK; adjust to the reality that I was absent from my Sydney home comforts, but my time at Chart House was enormously comfortable and pleasant. I felt guilty that I was not being a good tourist, out making the most of the special Dorking area, but just enjoying my time at Chart House and wondering around the area from there. One day I woke up and felt so guilty that I was not being an earnest tourist, but still so tired, I stood in my socks on the entry mat outside the front door and said to myself, "I've achieved an outing for today and now I can go back to bed!" However, as I stood there, a woman drove in and it turned out that she was there to feed the animals. I asked, "Can I accompany you and help in any way?" "Sure" she replied, and provided me with Wellington boots. I then spent a couple of hours helping to feed the animals and weeding nuisance plants for the animals. I felt I earned genuine status as a 'Brit', truly eligible to attend the Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival, the next week with the RHS membership I had previously obtained.
Thank you, Jill, for all your efforts in providing this special B&B establishment. Elizabeth

This B&B is absolutely lovely, Quiet location but at the same time within a couple of minutes from the High Street. Walk in the other direction and you are quickly in the countryside. the rooms are well maintained and very clean and tidy, as is the whole house. Breakfast is served at the kitchen table and the landlady is a joy to be with. Would recommend this place over all the other places I've stayed in the town.

This is our 3rd stay in Dorking. We have stayed in 2 other types of accommodation. Chart House knocks spots off those other 2 without a shadow of a doubt!
Jill is an amazing host. She makes sure she spends time with every guest in order to make sure she can provide a comfortable stay.
The accommodation feels like a family home, with great facilities and a warm environment. It’s also ideally locate. Chart House is about a 5 minute walk into the centre of the historic town of Dorking.
I can’t recommend this guest house enough!
We can’t wait to stay again.
Love it!

Lovely twin room overlooking the garden, quiet and peaceful. We could use the garden which had a lovely pond with gently running water to add to the atmosphere. Great location, near to all amenities, lovely quiet walks nearby.

I stayed at Chart House for one night on business. I received a warm, friendly welcome and the room was excellent, absolutely spotless and the bed really comfy. Next morning, I received a fabulous cooked breakfast. If I have to stay in the area again, I won't hesitate to book Chart House.

I spent a wonderful time at the Chart House, what a lovely place to stay away from home. Jill made my stay most enjoyable, everything is very clean und comfortable.
I stayed in a room with garden-view which I much appreciated. Next visit in Dorking will be Chart House again, for sure.

This is a stunning B&B located in a beautiful part of town with a huge garden to enjoy. The double room we had was well appointed and with all the necessaries.
One minor gripe was around the breakfast. Running a B&B is not an easy job, it can take over your life and I can understand that owners sometimes find it hard to balance their life and business. But from a customer perspective, it is not nice to be made to feel like you are inconveniencing your host by requesting the additional cost cooked breakfast (which in my book should be a standard offering anyway). Granted, a plan was made and someone was on hand and able provided the said breakfast, but as a customer I should have been blissfully unaware of this hiccup. But then the lack of quality of the ingredients just made the whole thing a let down. Bacon that is not bacon and sausages that barely contain any meat are just not on for me. Disappointing!
So overall a great place, but I would suggest just sticking with the included continental breakfast.

Thank you for a generally great review but I would like to respond to your comments about the breakfast. Our prices are probably the lowest in the Dorking area and we are able to achieve this by offering continental (very substantial) breakfast included in the price and offering a cooked breakfast at extra charge. The vast majority of our clients are business people who often have no breakfast and appreciate the low price. However, for those wishing for a cooked breakfast we have never offered bacon or tried to pass off our smoked turkey rashers as bacon, our sausages are 80% meat and our eggs and free range from our own chickens - you can't get better than that!

I lodged at Chart House for several weeks in summer 2009 and several months in 2010 while working nearby.
There are several guest rooms. One has exclusive use of a bathroom, the others share a bathroom. The rooms are clean and pleasantly furnished. The rooms vary in size from quite small to a large double room. The rooms to the rear overlook a large, pretty garden. Jill, the proprietor, runs the B&B efficiently and professionally.
Chart House is on the southern edge of Dorking, a few minutes walk from the town centre, where there are plenty of restaurants/pubs for an evening meal. The station (the other side of town) is about 20 mins walk away.
I'd recommend the Chart House to any one looking for a pleasant, clean, and good value B&B in Dorking.
