Great place to stay. Old style youth hostelling still alive today. We loved staying here for three nights with our kids. Great atmosphere & location. Hope they keep it as it is. Unique place! Real English experience.

Lovely location, and a great nights sleep, plus the hostel manager was exceedingly helpful when I turned up late due to train delays etc. Saw two tawny owls on the track to the hostel, which was lovely.

I arrived at dusk and parked in the National Trust car park as indicated on the information provided by the YHA at the time of booking. You have to pay attention to the information and map provided to be able to find your way, although there is a wooden sign to the hostel. It is a 20 minute or so... More

After a peaceful or thrilling, depending on personality, walk through the darkness (don't swich you torch on), an owl being the only company, you see the rewarding glimpse of light that signals the cutest cottage, set in a likewise garden at the edge of a meadow. Well, you hear the generator, too, as it's not on an electric line... No... More

A cutesy, very old, low-beamed workers cottage. Bit of a walk from car parking and transport but adds to the atmosphere.Take all your own food - and a torch is handy. Possibility of camping too. Very friendly host.

A lovely place but NOT for small children. The track is a steep hill and they are very strict on the no car rule. It's nearly an hour trip to walk back to your car with a wheel barrow, load the wheelbarrow and lug it back down to the camp site. We were a pretty fit group but found it... More

I was working in the area, and rather than come home each night (a four hour round trip) I decided to stay two nights in a Hostel. The one I usually used was sold out so for the first time I decided to try this one. I am so glad that I did. The actual hostel is about three quarters... More

What can I say of this place that can make justice to its uniqueness and Andy's (the keeper) kindness? After a disgraceful experience with a rental car from #easirent booked through #easycar (sorry, no record of those two businesses to leave a review), Andy did totally save the day! He not only waited for us at the hostel until midnight... More

I really enjoyed staying here. It has a cosy, homely feel and the hosts were welcolming. There is no car park, so you have to park in a National Trust car park and take a 10 minute walk through the woods to get to the Hostel. Ok in day time, but would be scary at night! The toilet and shower... More

Having found this location via the YHA website, I decided it would be a great place to spend a few peaceful days "away from it all". I never actually got there.... The phone was never answered, and having spent an hour or so trying to find the place, I was finally told that there is no vehicular access. This is... More

Thanks for your comments. I have reviewed the information on the website and made sure that that the first line of 'Need to know' states "The hostel is only accessible by foot." Normally if no one is available to answer the phone it will go to answer machine and we will call back as soon as we get the message.... More
