Great hotel I booked the Copthorne for a 1 night stay on a Friday for 2 people. We had a club double room with king size bed which was very comfy and soft pillows, the room was 501 on the top floor it was spacious and had a high ceiling, a fab view over the River Tyne, 2 big comfy seats and table, kettle with tea and coffee ( pg tips & kenco) flat screen tv, fridge, iron, safe, wifi, air con and a heater, bathroom was good and had toiletries provided. On arrival the reception staff were polite and helpful and had easy check in, filled a form to choose breakfast options, hand sanitiser around hotel to use, bar area was quite and staff were polite. When we arrived for breakfast staff were helpful we had a paper bag on a table with our name and room number and it had tea, coffee, orange juice in it and we were given pot of hot water and milk and our choice of breakfast was brought to the table ( sausage, bacon, scrambled egg, beans, toast) it was decent as our breakfast included in price, the hotel is a great location next to the quayside, we enjoyed our stay and will definitely book to come back again soon.

I have stayed here twice, once in Autumn 2019 and once in January 2020. Both times I have found the bedrooms spacious with very big comfy beds. Good blackout curtains. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room and hairdryer. The shower is hot and has good water pressure.

The rooms I have stayed in both overlooked the river and had a seating area in the window to enjoy the view. My first stay I found the room cold, but was given a radiator to supplement the air conditioning which I needed on all night.

Breakfast is very standard buffet fayre and toast is self service on a conveyor machine which either burns or slightly warms bread.

I deliver training at this venue and find the staff friendly and helpful. No complaints about service at all. The conference room is big, plenty of natural daylight and has a little adjoining room for catering to be set up without disturbing the course participants.

Decided on a nights stay over in town so we could do a bit shopping have a meal & drinks and not worry about getting home.
Got a good deal booking direct with hotel and they even give us free parking when we came to check out which saved £10.

Hotel is in a great location for the Quayside and all it has to offer.

Many years since we'd stayed here last and yes hotel and rooms are a bit 'dated' now in places.
Decoration wise rooms and common areas are slightly tired & worn and would benefit from an makeover/upgrade to match modern hotels in its nearby location on the Quayside.
Handy having a fridge in the room to keep bottled water cold and your milk fresh for making tea & coffee.

Service provided by the staff and facilities on offer are still as good.

Agree with comments that the car park could do with a lighting upgrade.

Very good Covid regulations in place throughout the hotel.

River view rooms have stunning views, made all the better by the clear skies and full moon on view that night.

Would stay again at the price we got it for cheaper than a taxi home especially as they give us free parking which was very kind of them.

We stayed in a club room on the 5th floor. Great view over the Tyne. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was fine (but in need of a refresh, missing floor tile grouting etc), fluffy towels and various lotions and potions. My wife commented on the 'dust' on the dressing units and used her own wipes to clean them down, maybe an oversite as the surfaces 'looked' clean. COVID 19 is causing all areas of our world to change and adapt, and I appreciate the additional steps taken by the hotel. Plenty of signage, hand sanitisers, social distancing etc were very evident (from most residents). Check in was polite and efficient, breakfast ordering was explained fully, and we selected a time that would hopefully avoid any rushes. I, unlike some other reviewers, had no issues with the breakfast either in content or delivery. I got exactly what was promised food wise plus polite and friendly staff.

We arrived at The Copthorne Hotel, on the Newcastle quayside about lunchtime. Our room was an upgraded clubroom on the fifth floor with a great view of the river and it’s numerous bridges.
The hotel had sensible Covid rules in place and we felt very safe during our stay. Breakfast was part of our booked deal and we decided to eat dinner in the hotel.
The food was good for both dinner and breakfast. On Monday we had to nominated a time and choose the cold menu items for breakfast on Tuesday. On arrival in the dining room we were given the previously ordered items in a paper bag all sensibly packaged. The tea and cooked items were brought to the table by a masked server and we felt very comfortable that a thorough risk assessment had been taken and followed. Despite these difficult times the staff members were all extremely cheerful and friendly.

We booked a club room and recieved a drinks voucher of £4 each, we wasn't expecting such a bonus . The hotel is lovely very clean and excellent covid rules felt very safe and clean. We had a nice room we a lovely view of the Tyne the furniture was a little dated and bathroom old fashioned could definitely do with a revamp but very clean and comfortable bed and everything we needed. Added bonus of air-conditioning in room too . Even though it's on the quayside and there are plenty of people up and down I didn't hear a thing after 11pm it was the quietest night's sleep ever. The breakfast the next morning is very well organized and was beautiful fresh coffee English breakfast and toast fruit and juice , just lovely . All in all we really enjoyed it and we was given free parking too . I paid £65 for one night b&b got a drinks voucher of £8 and free parking of £10 what more can you ask for !!! Definitely return

Stayed here on a Saturday night to celebrate the wife’s Birthday. We got a good deal with her working for NHS which included breakfast and parking.
What we particularly like about this hotel is the excellent location, the views from the bedrooms and the fact the hotel has its own car park.
The three negatives from the stay were:
1) The room was quite shabby in places and in desperate need of an upgrade (cupboard and wardrobe doors not closing properly and arm of chair coming apart).
2) One of the toilet rolls left in the room only had about 8 sheets left on it and the other roll was half used. A bit off putting so we asked housekeeping for a fresh one and binned the old one. To be fair this wasn’t an issue and was sorted out without hesitation.
3) We were asked to pay for parking when this was included in the room rate. Again this was easily sorted.
Other than the above the stay was enjoyable. The hotel (once again) had loads of parking spaces when we arrived, unlike other hotels in the area where it can be a bit of a bun fight to get one.
The breakfast was actually much better than when we last stayed 3 years ago. A good buffet style cooked breakfast (good quality and hot) and the fussy wife was more than happy with the quality of the coffee (there was a choice of filter coffee or coffee from the machine).
We had a few drinks at some of the excellent bars within close proximity to the hotel, and it was nice to walk along the quayside after breakfast to walk off some of the 4 sausages I had at breakfast!
Ok we could have paid a bit more and stayed in one the more upmarket hotels such as the Vermont, but for us (toilet rolls aside) the Copthorne ticks the boxes for an excellent stay in Newcastle.

We recently stayed in the Copthorne for two nights, we booked a club room which was lovely huge bed and very comfy. The bathroom was very small and a little dated! The view over the Tyne was lovely and close to all other bars and restaurants on the quay. I have to say though the breakfast was appalling! You need to order your breakfast before 10 pm the night before and choose a time to come down! On the face of it I though great idea this seems really well organized, on the first morning we arrived at 9am and was shown to our table a brown paper bag appears, with paper cups, sataches of coffee or a tea bag your individual cereal, a piece of fruit and juice in a tiny carton. It felt more like a children’s picnic! Then I over heard that they don’t do fried eggs and the only option is scrambled, which looked a watery mess. The quality of the breakfast was really bad no toast, not enough milk, cheap sausages and soggy hash browns! You really would be better going to weatherspoons for a cooked breakfast. On the second morning we waiting in a que for twenty minutes no apology this time I opted for the bacon barm the muffin was really stale and fell apart in my hands a just picked the bacon off and ate this. There is car parking at this hotel but it is pitch black no lights come on so it feels very unsafe! Also the lift from the car park to the hotel reception smells awfully damp and stale. Would I stay here again definitely not!!!

Thank you for your comments. Following the lifting of the 3 ½ month national COVID-19 lockdown of the UK hospitality industry, Copthorne Newcastle re-opened mid-July. In line with government guidelines, social distancing and safe operational practices are the key priority in all hotels to ensure guest and staff safety. Breakfast here is a safe balance of pre-sealed Grab & Go items, with a plated limited hot option which is served in the bar area which is socially distanced, hence table availability is limited at peak times. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive from the vast majority of guests regarding breakfast, fully accepting that there are key restrictions in place within hotels at present. I am sorry that it did not meet your personal expectations. Best regards, Ken Ellington, General Manager

We were attending a function and decided to stay the night to make things easier. Rooms are a great size with brilliant views of the river and it is only a 2 minute walk to the bars and restaurants on the Quayside. The furnishing are a little tired but spotlessly clean and the bed was comfortable. Bathrooms are functional but I do think they are in need of an update. Social distancing was well signed and there was hand gel at all entry points and lifts. Breakfast was not the best and I do appreciate that things are different at the minute but being served warm orange juice in a carton was not the best. I have just stayed in a different hotel where the breakfast was much better and there was no need for food items to be put in paper bags. All of the staff that we had dealings with from reception, bar and restaurant areas were friendly, enthusiastic and helpful.

Stayed for 3 nights for a 2 night deal . Hotel had all Covid precautions in place , screens , signage , distance/ direction markings and sanitizer stations as well as staff wearing masks at all times .

Hotel is well situated on the Quayside in the city centre , great for sightseeing and getting around the city , we had complementary parking in the adjacent car park and tickets validated on request . The staff on reception were always helpful and friendly as were all the staff ( food and beverage ) .

We booked a larger suite which was more spacious than your average room which when booked on a 3 for 2 night stay is great value . Room had a very large comfortable bed , seating area , dedicated office area and dining area . We had access to a small balcony which overlooked the river Tyne with good views of several of the cities bridges .

We were given complementary drinks vouchers for the bar , table service as per the rules . The breakfast was well organised having to make your choice the day before from a menu and we had one evening meal , a lamb stew which was tasty and filling .

The people of Newcastle are so friendly and the city a gem of the north , we will definitely visit again and return to the Copthorne !
