Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Arrived for my stay- and the hotel was being used as a refuge centre, so I was unable to stay over. The hotel took my money, and I was stranded in Newcastle trying to find an alternative place to stay for the weekend, with limited budget and hotel availability.

Booked hotel as visiting daughter and also to see a band. In room 210, superior double, room is a good size, the bed is large but a little creaky(!). Downside is the room is situated right next door to a staircase and fire door, so you do hear a lot of footsteps, the door opening and closing and voices, as I stayed two nights, I asked at reception if I could possibly change to a quieter room - excellent service and no problem: decided to stay put to see if it disturbed my sleep - it didn’t. Breakfast ok, staff excellent and would definitely stay again if visiting the city in the future😀.

Start on a positive, bed was large and room comfy, staff friendly and polite, Noisy inside hotel with a superior room outside stairs and lifts therefore everyone coming in early hours you can hear! Add all the students outside throwing glasses across the road makes the place noisy, crack in wash hand basin ideal for germs to cultivate, shower weak, shower screen in op and has been for a while, squeaky floorboards,, I didn’t mind but I bet room below did, parking near on impossible and all areas around restricted by permit, so not a good stay and wouldn’t return

Dear Ricardodickygee Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with The New Northumbria Hotel, as a valued guest we really do appreciate you providing any comments and feedback. I am pleased you found your room comfortable and were satisfied with our large beds. Thank you also for your praise towards our staff, we do really have a great team here. I am sorry some aspects did not live up to your expectations. I have certainly passed your comments onto our maintenance team in hope to rectify in regard to the flaws you found within the room. I am sorry you struggled with parking also, as we are located in a residential area it is all street parking, some are restricted to permit only however there is still ample alternative parking around. I really do hope this will not entirely deter you from staying with us again in the future. Feel free to reach out to me on assistantmanager@thenewnorthumbriahotel.co.uk should you wish to speak further about your experience. Kindest Regards Debbie Howe Assistant Manager

A superior room in this very well-maintained, furnished and equipped hotel. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, there was an excellent, freshly cooked breakfast the following day and if, like us, you do not stay at hotels to frequent the swimming pool, sauna etc, this was a terrific choice and extremely good value.

We stayed here last night and unfortunately we won’t be returning. Positives: Staff are so friendly and welcoming (my boyfriend was also ill and the staff were very understanding and dealt with this very efficiently and fairly) Free parking with plenty of spaces Excellent location Room big and bed comfy and large However I specifically asked for a quiet room prior to booking as I’m a very light sleeper. We were given room 210 and I barely slept. The room is next to the stairs so every time somebody comes up/down the stairs, it’s so loud it sounds like they’re in your room. The door also slams each time (other hotels have door stoppers so this doesn’t happen- this could be a good option for the future?) The hotel was fully booked so I didn’t even ask to move with the situation we had but this has put us off staying again. Sohe Down the road- fantastic food and drinks :) Thanks, Katherine

Dear Katherine Thank you for choosing The New Northumbria Hotel this weekend for your stay. I really appreciate you taking the time to praise our team who were working this weekend and who assisted you. I am really sorry that your experience did not live up to your expectations and you had a restless night due to noise. We did try our best to accommodate your requirements by arranging a room at the back of the hotel and away from the potential roadside noise, I am sincerely sorry that you had been disturbed by noise and passing guests which I can understand caused inconvenience to your stay. We do operate a 24-hour reception team and if you had highlighted this to us we would have tried our utmost to move you immediately or try to make the stay more pleasant for you. If you would like to reach out to me my email address is assistantmanager@thenewnorthumbriahotel.co.uk I do hope this one off experience would not entirely deter you from staying again considering you have enjoyed our location, facilities and local area. Should you wish to give us a second chance in the future I will endeavour to provide a much more relaxing stay on a discounted rate. I would appreciate it if you wanted to get in touch and speak to me directly. Kindest Regards Debbie Howe Assistant Manager

Very comfortable rooms; mine was equipped with it’s own iron & ironing board, which was very much appreciated! Enjoyable breakfast but, the bar menu is very basic bar meals. However, the staff were very helpful.

Dear gfernie31 Thank you very much for taking the time to review your recent stay with us at the New Northumbria Hotel, your feedback is much appreciated. I am pleased you had a comfortable stay and found our rooms well-equipped. Although Osborne's is our on-site bar and serves pub food daily, there is plenty of alternative choice in our surrounding area from Italians, middle eastern, and also Rio's steakhouse which is also attached to the hotel. I do hope we will see you again in the future if travelling back for work. Kindest Regards Debbie Howe Assistant Manager

First class hotel : first class staff: first class price. We were in the city for a hospital assessment and staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We have to come back several times over the next year and I will definitely come here . ( be nice if there was a loyalty discount facility !!) .... can’t praise this hotel enough . Made us so welcome and settled. Brian and Christine .

We have stayed here a few times before when visiting family. Two things disappointed us this time.....firstly, the loss of the Mexican restaurant ......it was a lovely place for dinner & even nicer for breakfast. The new breakfast offering is not great. Secondly, despite booking directly & being advised that was the best price I noticed that booking.com we’re offering a lower price. Rooms are nice and staff too.

Dear JulieFMalaga Thank you for choosing The New Northumbria Hotel once again, as a valued guest we really appreciate your comments and feedback. I am disheartened to hear that this recent occasion did not live up to your expectations and meet our usual highest standards. I am sorry that the new breakfast offering was not to your liking, the menu we kept similar, and we continued to use the same breakfast chef however I appreciate the new environment may not be to everyone's taste. We would really be disappointed if this did deter you from staying with us again in the future. Please feel free to drop myself an email on Assistantmanager@thenewnorthumbriahotel.co.uk should you wish to give us another chance, I will ensure to provide a discounted rate for your loyalty to our hotel for a future reservation. We do hope to welcome you back again. Kindest Regards Debbie Assistant Manager

Was completely overwhelmed by how good the hotel was. Pound for pound one of the best I have stayed in. Got a free upgrade by the booking site, which always helps. All the facilities are first rate. Staff were very friendly and obliging. Good location but as it was a dark and wet night didn't take advantage of it. Dinner was surprisingly good. On first impressions the two restaurants didn't suit me. An all you can eat Brazilian which isn't what I wanted and a nachos/burger one. I had a steak in here and it was great. Breakfast was also great, good selection, freshly cooked hot food. Also had different but interesting toiletries in the bathroom. Car parking not brilliant but they do have free parking so not really an issue. Bedroom and bathroom could be a bit larger. Great for one not sure if there was two in the room and clothes storage minimal, really just for one night. Improving the TV distribution system would help as the signal broke up on some channels.
