Like any easy brand, the easyHotel chain has a reputation for no-frills hotel stays where you only pay for what you need. Surprisingly, it still led for a quite comfortable stay without feeling like the offering was lacking. Extra charges are required for a range of services, including use of WIFI and the TV in the room, but necessary items, such as soap and towels, are still provided free of charge.

Check-in was friendly and smooth, with the lobby being clean but basic. Other areas of the hotel, such as the lift and some of the corridors, were showing wear and tear, as well as a need for some cleaning.

The room itself has the best view I’ve had, so far, in accommodation in Newcastle. Very impressive for such a budget hotel. The room was nicely designed, albeit with a slight feel that the whole thing came from Ikea. There was a few little details such as the lack of a bin in the main room, bottle marks left on the shelf above the sink in the bathroom, and a shower door which seemed to open the wrong way, which stopped the room from reaching amazing.

The largest potential drawback to the hotel is its location just off the Quayside. Being within the Nightlife area of Newcastle, this can be seen in the people and its surroundings, and in the fact that the hotel has its own security guard stationed in the lobby at night. Although I never had any hassle, nor was disturbed by any noise, it would make me have second thoughts of booking the hotel at the weekend. Otherwise, it is conveniently located for the central train station and city centre shopping.

I would definitely choose to stay here again in the future, particularly if I’m just looking for a very affordable place to stay for the night.

This hotel is about 10 to 15 mins walk to Newcastle Central Station and the metro station to the airport. Fortunately, the Easy Hotel is down hill from the station. The only negative is going back to the station - a taxi will be necessary, if you have too much luggage. I arrived at the hotel very late about 11:30pm. My room had an internal window, with a courtyard style view of some trees. The bathroom was fantastic and air-con was very effective in the hot summer. There was a desk, but surprisingly no chair! (see photo). The Tyne river and the wonderful boardwalk is only a 5 minute stroll from the hotel, with various eateries and restaurants along the way. In addition, the Newcastle Castle (which seems strange to say) is a very short walk uphill for 5 to 10 mins from the hotel. Based on the user pay system, (the Easy brand philosophy),there is a charge to store you bags after checkout: for 5 Pounds. However, I was very happy to pay this, as the general room rate is significantly less than other hotels in the area. I highly recommend this hotel!

I am always a bit apprehensive about EasyHotel as they are really the bargain basement of hotels, but this one was a generally positive one. I stayed twice in a week so had the chance to experience two different rooms. The location is decent enough, the bed was comfortable too. I had paid the slight premium for a window (was only £1 extra for my stay) which was worthwhile.

However, I had a different room experience on the two stays – the first stay I had a good room on the 3rd floor, with some good space to manoeuvre, multiple plugs and a side table, plus proper window and curtains. My second stay I instead had a top floor room, with a sloped roof and skylight with a slightly poor window blind, no side table and barely any floor space. Whilst the second stay cost me about £3 less, given I had booked the exact same room type this did not seem fair as the second room was worse.

The rooms were clean, but maintenance needed some improvement – the sockets were damaged and the toilet seat loose in my first room, and in the second room the drain was semi-blocked. I also had issues with the air con system and controls (needed due to the old building making it very hot otherwise), and I had no TV remote initially (resolved once I asked). I do not mind pointing out minor things, but it was clear things were not being checked often enough.

I also get that it is a budget hotel and they want to upsell to you, but the checkout at 10am is too early especially given bag storage costs money. Even going to 10.30 or 11am would make a big difference and time to go and get breakfast. There as there is no kettle, something basic like a free microwave/hot water at reception would be a small cheap compromise as even a hostel provides features like this.

Overall, it’s a decent place for a few nights at the right price – for me around £30, great for the city centre, clean, quiet and comfortable enough. But the rates rocket especially on weekends and if it was higher I'd go elsewhere, Newcastle is pretty well connected so head further out if needed.

Hi Tom, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We're pleased to hear you enjoyed our lovely location - we can't get enough of it either! We are a little different from other easyHotels in that we are in an older, Grade II listed building that has been refurbished into a hotel; this means we have some variation in our room types and sizes, as you have noted, but it also means we are bursting with character. Our fourth floor is where we get to show off some of this character and uniqueness - we love these rooms for their cosy feel but we accept they are not for everyone. As we allocate rooms at check in, it can be hard to guess someone's taste! We carry out regular maintenance checks around the building to keep on top of any wear and tear issues, but occasionally we do miss things - if a room is occupied while we are doing checks, for example. Our concept is budget and minimalist, we aim to encourage our guests to go out and explore the area so we keep our room amenities to a minimum - we are the perfect place to drop off your bags while you head out to find your new favourite coffee place. easyHotel does have a coffee machine in reception that is available 24/7. Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to see you again soon. Kind regards, Lilianna easyHotel Newcastle

So this was our first time staying in any Easy Hotel after seeing them in many a city.
We didn't have huge expectations and after our stay I can understand why, however if you wanting to visit Newcastle on a budget then this could be for you.
Upon arrival the best thing this hotel has going for it is it's location.
You minutes away from the main city centre and only a short 10 minute or so walk to the train / bus station.
Your only a mere minute walk away from the famous Tyne Bridge and River Tyne.
So what is the hotel like.
The reception staff and staff we spoke with were very down to earth and friendly.
The hotel as a whole was very clean.
We stayed in room 1 which is a disabled friendly room.
The room was quite large however their are no windows and I will say the room is next to a staff door that seemed to lead to housekeeping.
We could hear people coming and going throughout our stay.
The bathroom was nice and big however the shower didn't have a great water pressure, that being said it was nice and clean.
The bed was two singles pushed together which is disappointing and this sadly made for an uncomfortable nights sleep.
One thing this bedroom had in it's favour was a full length mirror and a table and chair, however the chair was not very comfy and if you were to sit in it for a while, I could see it causing back pain.
Would we stay here again no... but not because it was overly terrible, we just prefer little luxury's that don't come with a budget hotel.
If you want to stay in Newcastle on a budget it's well worth considering this hotel for the location alone, we used this place on this visit as a base and we paid £27 for the night which is a great price.
The downsides you are reminded it is a budget hotel and it basically does what it says.
This time it worked for us even with the issues we had within the room but next time were go back to having little personal touches that this hotel does seem to lack in for us too consider a return visit.
The two star rating is mostly due to the location and the price we paid, however had we of paid more I would of knocked off another point.
I do think this hotel is worth a maximum of £30-£35 a night and no more, the points off are for the water pressure and bed as neither of us slept well and we were checked out at 5am.
Two most important factors in any hotel stay feeling clean and refreshed from a shower and a good nights sleep, neither we had here.
So it just depends if it's basically a base then your be fine, if you want a little more I would say look around as their are plenty of hotels within the area, and if you do stay here then don't have huge expectations, or have great water pressure or a nights sleep so maybe consider looking around.
We won't return.

Hi ccuk2020, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We're pleased to see you enjoyed our fab location as much as we do and enjoyed meeting our friendly team! We are hugely proud of them and all their hard work. Your kind comments regarding cleanliness will be passed on to our housekeeping team so they can ensure standards remain high! We are sorry to see you felt let down by certain elements of your stay with us. easyHotel is a super priced, super sustainable hotel chain, which means we do not provide some room amenities offered by other chains; this allows us to pass our savings on to our guests - which means our rates are super competitive - and minimise the impact our business has on the environment. Our rooms without windows are clearly marked as such online; if you are facing an issue at any time from the point of booking to your check out time, we encourage every guest to give us a ring or pop along to reception where our front desk team will be more than happy to assist. We hope to see you in easyHotels again soon to take advantage of our wonderful city centre locations and unbeatable prices. Kind regards, Lilianna easyHotel Newcastle

I've stayed in a couple of easyHotels for cheap work/meeting overnighters, and to be honest this is the nicest one I've stayed at! The building looks nice from the outside, and it's at the bottom of a nice street in the city centre - quite a walk from the train or Metro stations, I'd say 15 mins at a brisk pace but still fairly easy to get to.

Check in was swift and smooth, friendly helpful staff and nice clean reception area. Room initially had no toilet paper when I checked in but the receptionist was apologetic and gave me a handful of toilet rolls to take up(!).

The room was about as basic as it gets - I paid the extra few quid for a window, but I needn't have bothered as it was so high up it was practically on the ceiling and was just an extra bit of light, to be honest. Certainly couldn't reach it to open, that's if it even did open. There was a bed, which was comfortable, and a desk, and a small TV, and that's really about it. Oh, and a basic but very clean bathroom.

All in all, I wouldn't book this place for a romantic weekend getaway, but as a cheap place to lay your head between meetings or as a young traveller on a budget, you can't get much better for the unbelievably low midweek prices. Would stay again!

Went to check in at 2pm and was told I couldn’t check in till 3pm, unless I paid £20 extra.
Was told room was ready so thought it a bit of a jobsworth effort to try n charge me £20 for 60 minutes.
Check out is 10am, which I think is a bit of a raw deal.
The hairdryer didn’t work, the keycard inserts in the wall for the lights, but they just kept flickering on and off randomly.
Bed was comfy, room small but clean, shower facilities ok.

Dear JP H, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking your time to leave us a review. The essential services we offer enable us to fulfil our brand promise to allow our guests to benefit from the best value for money by only paying for the services they wish to use. However, we do understand that some guests require additional services such as luggage storage, daily cleaning or an early/late check out. So as not to impact on the price of the room for guests who choose not to use these services, they are offered at a small additional cost. Regarding the hairdryer, we are very sorry to hear that you experienced a technical problem in your room during your stay. Rest assured that your feedback has been passed on to our Maintenance Supervisor and we are actively working to resolve this issue in the room you stayed in. We hope to see you again soon in any one of our locations across Europe. Kind regards, easyHotel Newcastle Team

A room with a comfortable bed, good television, and superb Wi-Fi, you don’t get a chair in and much room as it is very compact.

The customer service is superb with check-in and out very easy, though do not forget to have a credit/debit card as you will require this even if you had prepaid.

The location is within the Quayside area of the city with its bar and restaurants, the walk into the city is up a steep hill of Grey Street, bus climbs the hill from just around the corner.

Super-budget and value for money which I can recommend

We didn't go with high expectations due to the reviews about rooms sizes and cleanliness and we were still disappointed. The duvet and duvet cover were disgusting and there were hairs on our sheets. The wooden floor looked dirty and I didn't dare walking barefoot. The hotel is very dirty throughout, the carpets look filthy. The noise of the air con units outside was unbearable so we didn't sleep much. The TV wasn't working and we were told that we would get complimentary wi-fi and late checkout instead... We didn't need either. The bathroom looked clean but it was odd. The toilet was very high and the mirror is placed right in front of the toilet. The shower was good though. There are no hangers, there was only one chair and bedside table. The bed was comfortable enough but I didn't dare to touch the wall or the headboard. The blind on the VELUX window was good and kept the room dark enough. The air con worked. Location is very handy.

Stayed here recently, the location is excellent so close to everything. But I would no recommend staying here if you are looking for comfort the rooms are very dirty and in my opinion not up to standard. I had to be moved room due to the electricity and heating not working after going to reception twice about this and the first time being told it was fixed. The new room was the same and had an awful smell like somebody was smoking in the room before us. The tv only had one channel and the wifi kept saying no signal. You get one pillow each and they are flat as pancakes. The window sells and bathrooms full of dust like they had not been cleaned properly but this would make sense with the smell in the room already. There is also no bin in the room. Place is fine if you are on a night out and just need somewhere to rest your head for the night.
