Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had the best bottomless Sunday roast here for a Christmas do with my friends. Our waitress, Olivia provided us with the best service and ensured our drinks were topped up. No time waiting for drinks, drinks time extended due to food being a little bit slow but whole afternoon felt relaxed with plenty of drinks and yummy food! Thank you @stpaulshouse fully recommend!

Really poor experience all told. Up front here - we had a special rate through my employers in the Jewellery Quarter that is promoted as room and breakfast. When trying to book, no one knew about the rate - but said they would call me back. No-one did. Eventually after calling back a few days later, got a room booked - but they said the rate was wrong and charged me more. My work had to sort that out and eventually I got the advertised rate. We arrived about 5pm on Saturday with the bar busy (note, it is a nice bar and restaurant having been before). The reception of the hotel is in a corner at the front of the bar area. You can't hear anything on reception because its in the bar basically. But we did get told there were complimentary drinks in the fridge which was a nice touch. First issue - lift broken, but no advising of this by reception. But not a big deal for us. Head on up stairs, past all their christmas decorations waiting to be put up and note that wow, everything is really white. Like everywhere is white paint with minimal decor. On entering the room - the room is the same! White walls with a white bed and fittings. Its just not what you expect from someone claiming to be a boutique hotel and not quite as welcoming as the photos on the website. Room is boiling - so open window and try to turn down the A/C from 24 degrees (!) to 16. Doesn't seem to do anything. Drinks - 1 single Prosecco and 1 orange juice and 1 water. Its a double room. Oh - one bathrobe only as well (but two lots of towels) TV remote doesn't work fully - and pillows are wispy to the point of pointless. Even with the additionally supplied pillows in the room. Bathroom is, credit where its due - nice. Next morning, find the Duolit coffee pod machine doesn't work. Advise reception of this to be told your the second person to say this. Fortunately, we were about to have breakfast and checkout. This was the final straw - was charged for breakfast despite the room being promoted as room and breakfast! So now got to take that up with my work (breakfast was at least nice) All told, we paid a reduced rate for this visit. I'd have been very disappointed if I'd paid the actual rate advertised. Our experience was nothing above what a Premier Inn can offer bar the inclusion of a few complimentary drinks (oh and a hot water bottle)

Wow I have no words for the manager Fiona. We booked a meal for Christmas Day. Had no email to confirm. Called up to ask for a confirmation. Non was sent. So we have called up again. Yet again Fiona has answered the phone- but this time said we’re not open Christmas Day????? When she took the booking for Christmas Day , 4-5 weeks ago. Never the less we are worried we have no booking 5 weeks before Christmas for a family meal Christmas Day… she is laughing down the phone. I have said we’re trying to confirm a booking with u, why are u laughing. She said “ I’m sorry there’s customers in front of me , I’m the manger”… no professionalism, to pull herself aside on a phone call and made me feel very disappointed in the hotel/restaurant. We have been here many of times and spend x amount of money here. I am disappointed in the customer service and how she has made me feel and ruined our plans on her lack of consideration.

The hotel was perfectly positioned on St Paul’s square. The bar and restaurant, downstairs are also lovely. The hotel were able to give us an extension of a couple of hours on departure, which helped massively. The rooms were great with a very comfortable bed. The lady on reception was very welcoming and informative.

I have stopped at this hotel a number of times and I normally love it. However, I am writing this on the evening of our one night stay. The room is great, however the check was questionable. The polite guy checking us in was fanatic, however there was a lady on reception with long dark hair with a blue dress on that was hostile. Extremely passive aggressive. Reading between the lines, I think she is a manager which is scary. Avoid her at all costs.

This is a very mixed review. Pros 1. Friendly & lovely staff from reception, bar, restaurant & housekeeping. 2. Lovely premises. Warm welcome 3. Clean Room 4. Excellent wine selection 5. Pints available 6. Good reasonably priced breakfast 7. Mini fridge drinks on arrival 8. Nice well working clean bathroom Cons 1. Loud DJ Friday night until late 2. Loud music in dining room even at breakfast 3. No table service for breakfast or drinks 4. Only 1 robe in room for 2 5. Prosecco replaced with 1 bottle(not 2) second night 6. Uncomfortable pillows & average bed 7. Thin walls-could hear the next door room come home at 4am. 8. View from back of room Hoped this would be our regular hotel when visiting our son in Birmingham. But may try another one on next visit as lots for similar prices. Maybe mid week stay as the late night DJ on both nights was too much for us.
