Our gorgeous, landmark hotel was originally opened by Isaac Horton back in 1879 to designs by Thomson Plevins. Since then, it’s welcomed royalty and rock stars and has been a hub in the city for meetings and networking as well as incredible events in our breath-taking Grand Ballroom. Following a £50 million restoration and refurbishment, Birmingham’s original grande-dame hotel re-opened having been closed for almost 20 years. As the latest chapter in our history takes shape, we hope you will be a part of it, whether you are staying at the hotel, eating and drinking in our bars and restaurant, organising a meeting, or attending an event. We look forward to seeing you soon.

The Grand Hotel Birmingham emerges as a beacon of luxury, with its guests lauding the comfortable rooms and opulent atmosphere, graced with grand architectural details. Despite the praise for its prime location and overall cleanliness, some guests have raised concerns about unexpected costs that lead to perceptions of the hotel being overpriced. While the amenities generally receive high marks, occasional inconsistencies and noise issues in rooms have been noted. Service experiences vary, with reports of both commendable attentiveness and frustrating lapses in staff responsiveness.

The Grand Hotel lived up to its name in every way from the welcome at reception through to our farewell. We have stayed in many beautiful hotels , The Horse Guards , London , The Hoxton Rome , The Giraffe Hotel ,New York , and this hotel is not out of place in such company . The elegance and comfort of this beautiful building is worth a visit in itself .The great Madeleine lounge where time slips by and downstairs an American Diner ‘ Isaacs’ where we enjoyed a delicious burger, a caesar salad and a baked Alaska dessert .This is a customer orientated hotel where the staff are working together to ensure your stay is enjoyable .’The Grand Hotel ‘ is simply a grand place to stay , go stay , you will not be disappointed.

From being greeted by Christa at reception, the luxury of the beautiful room and the outstanding service from Elysia we received in Madeleine’s, made this one of my best hotel experiences ever ( and I have had a few). The hotel was so elegant and restored to a beautiful former glory , yet with a scrumptious and modern twist. The room furnishings were top notch, and I loved the artwork around the hotel and the ‘nod’ to Birmingham /the Midlands contribution to the arts and popular culture so carefully weaved into the heart of the hotel without distracting from the original features. The mosaic floor, elegant staircase and marble pillars blend perfectly with modern splendour . I especially loved the lyrics from classic songs from led zep / sabbath tastefully and unexpectedly blended into art work stumbled across . A delight, just a wonderful gem in Birmingham . The staff made it extra special

When arriving at the hotel a member of staff was outside sweeping up bits of rubbish which gave a great first impression.
Check in was easy the receptionist was lovely and after telling her we were staying for my 50th birthday she managed to upgrade us to a deluxe double, a member of staff who was walking past even opened the lift door for us.
The room was beautiful, simple but stylish, nice touches such as robes, Nespresso machine, iron & ironing board, complimentary bottled water and high quality complimentary toiletries. Only draw back was there wasn't anywhere to apply make up and style hair in the room as the only mirror was a full length one and this had no shelf or dressing table next to it to put products on so had to put hairdryer and straighteners on the floor and the lighting was quite poor, so had to apply make up in the bathroom but I am just being picky.
After dinner out in the city we came back to the bar for a nightcap, bar was beautiful and the staff were very friendly and attentive.
Breakfast the next morning was a little disappointing, the restaurant is very nice and the décor is lovely. We both had de-cafe tea and it was a nice big pot but there was only one teabag in each so it was too weak to drink. The continental selection was lovely, I just ordered 2 sausages as I was going to make a sausage sandwich but when I cut them open one was quite pink inside and they were very herby which I personally am not keen on for a breakfast sausage or smoked bacon, maybe for breakfast plain would be more suitable.
Check out was very smooth and the same receptionist was on duty and asked if I had had a good birthday , which was very nice, and we left our bags while we did a little shopping.
The whole experience was so nice and memorable, the staff were excellent and would highly recommend for a special occasion.

We had a fabulous overnight stay at the Grand Hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The staff were so welcoming and attentive and it felt very special to stay in such a beautiful hotel.

We had a Junior Suite overlooking St Philip’s Cathedral square and although the hotel is in a central part of the city the room had great sound insulation, and very quiet air conditioning, so we had a wonderful night’s sleep in a very large comfortable bed. The bathroom was spacious and had a separate bath and large walk in shower. It all felt very luxurious.

The refurbishment of the hotel is to a very high standard with lots of the original features retained but with all the modern day comforts. We loved looking at the art work in the room and hallways as all the pieces we saw had some connection to Birmingham which we really appreciated as we live in Brum.

We remember the ballroom from the 1990s when it was was very shabby so it’s great to see it back to its full glory. The cocktail bar, Madeline's, is very sumptuous and the staff were very attentive. When I asked the cocktail barman about one of the cocktails, as I wasn’t sure if I would like it, he prepared a complimentary mini version for both of us to try. It was lovely. On this occasion we were only there a short time as we were eating in the restaurant, Isaacs, but we will definitely be back with friends to try out some more cocktails in such lovely surroundings

This was our second stay at this hotel, really to see if the first stay could be put right! Sadly it wasn’t. Our first stay ended with a bar manager asking us to not punch the glass when we asked if we could take the drinks to our room due to the hotel bar closing up at 11pm. This was highly embarrassing, inappropriate and extremely rude. We complained and we were told this was an unfortunate and unacceptable event. We agreed! We had two rooms booked for later in the year and we were assured that if we stay again, the experience will be so much better. Unfortunately for us, we took them at their word and have just spent the worst weekend at this hotel that we have ever spent anywhere. With friends, we checked in early and never expected the rooms to be ready so we were told that they would ring us when the rooms were ready. Checking in is at 3pm but only had a call at 4pm. The two rooms were on floor 6. One room was lovely and warm, which was appreciated after being the coldest day of the year. The other room was freezing, and nothing coming out of the heaters. 2 hours of calls to reception, one visit to reception (where we were told the heating isn’t switched on to be “green” - however the other has heating so he couldn’t explain that very well?) 2 visits by an engineer and a potable insufficient heater sent up , 20 minutes before we were due out. This is meant to be a 5 star hotel??? The room was freezing, the attitude of reception was unhelpful at best, inept at worst.
Breakfast is also a free for all!! We were directed to a dirty table with only 3 chairs, strange because we were a party of four. Waited ages, just stood by the table for someone to clean it and provide a chair. Being told by front of house at the time to sit down and wait for someone to clean the table rather than standing, we clearly had to pull straws as to who stood. Food was very good quality but the layout is all wrong , with cramped self service areas and too many people queuing for food.
To sum it all up, the facade is beautiful, the building is beautiful but cold, way too cold and having been to true 5 star hotels in this country, this hotel is way way down that rating. We have stayed in every high end hotel in Birmingham, and whilst they might not be as shiny new or as “grand”, they are warm, welcoming and most importantly know exactly what they are doing. Please stay elsewhere, go in for a drink to a beautiful bar if you can get a table but don’t stay at this overpriced and severely inept hotel.

Dear 121netg, I am sorry we did not meet your expectations. I can only apologise for the issues you experienced, this is certainly not the level of service we strive for. As you mentioned it was the coldest day of the year and we experienced a small fault with our AC. We have since had our AC engineer to site and the fault has been resolved. With regards to breakfast we are currently reviewing this to provide a better service. Kind regards Sarah Kaplan Director of Rooms

Stayed 2 nights during cricket at Edgbaston at this Newly opened hotel so was expecting teething problems
But there we none
Staff are friendly and knowledgable and obviously well trained
We had cocktails in Madeleines bar which were excellent and there was plenty of atmosphere with mixture of residents and locals
Bedrooms were very large and comfortable
2 minor quibbles about the lack of storage and the brightness of the bathroom light at night did not affect my enjoyment of the stay
We had breakfast in Isaacs even though we hadn’t booked with our room it was such good value and excellent . This was the best scrambled egg I have been served in any restaurant or hotel . The lady serving breakfast was outstandingly friendly and helpful
We ate dinner in Isaacs on the strengths the quality of breakfast and the interesting menu
We were not disappointed with the American style menu. I had cod and grits - excellent
A fun place

This hotel certainly lived up to the hype! Not sure where these negative reviews are coming from? I guess it’s the type of people who expect far too much from new hotel and can’t just enjoy it for what it is, which is fantastic! I was in a 5* retreat only 2 weeks prior and this hotel is more luxurious and outweighed this by far!

We arrived at just gone 4pm and the room wasn’t ready, the way in which the lady on reception dealt with this so professionally and immediately got us seated for a cocktail in Madeleines. The service, ambience and quality of drinks were superb.

The receptionist arrived and told us our rooms was ready and our bags were in the room. We stayed in a Grand Junior Suite, room 320. It was beautiful, very spacious, lovely big windows looking over the church. A well stocked complimentary mini bar which was an added bonus. The bathroom was very large, bathrobes and towels were high quality and stocked with a lot of Molton Brown toiletries. I would just ask housekeeping to be mindful of dust on top of the four poster bed BUT it’s not the end of the world when the room was so stunning and the arrival experience was second to none!

We didn’t eat in Isaacs as we watched the England game. We had breakfast and the levels of service continued and nothing was too much for the staff. Food was delicious.

We checked out and had the same ladies who checked us in. They were so attentive and even showed us around the Grand Ballroom, which is breathtaking!! A lovely guy then took some photos of me and my partner before we left.

Thank you to all the staff (apologies I didn’t get any names) but every single staff member showed such high levels of service, passion & care. Please don’t change this!

We are just in the process of booking again in August so we will see you on 28th :)

Thank you!

Wonderful venue, fantastic customer service with an overall luxurious atmosphere throughout.

Giuseppe happily welcomed us to our upgraded room that came with a few beautiful surprises (see pics) which really set the tone for our mini romantic break for our 24th Wedding anniversary.

During our stay we had tickets to go watch Genesis at the Utilita Arena; which was just a few minutes walk from the hotel.

The restaurants inside and near the hotel offer high end dining whereas a short walk away there are other options available such as street food, fast food and some lovely chic coffee and bakery houses.

The botanist and alchemist highly recommended too.

Our room was number 420 and it is beautiful in its design with some fantastic artwork, furniture and complimentary amenities. The bed is ridiculously comfy with lots of pillows to sink into along with other areas that can be used to relax in. The room was immaculate and housed a bath AND a shower cubicle which felt very luxurious especially after a long day of sightseeing!

My husband fell in love with the bedside Marshall speaker and is currently looking online to buy one….

We had a truly lovely time and came away very relaxed, loved up and happy. We would 100% recommend this great hotel!

Hands down the finest hotel experience my wife and I have ever experienced. The decor and the building itself is incredible. Everywhere was spotless including the rooms which were also resplendent with locally themed, trendy decor.
The real stand-out with The Grand is the staff who were to an individual the most friendly, helpful and accommodating we have ever come across. From checking in at reception to our evening spent in the beautiful Madeleine Bar to breakfast in the chic Isaac's every single member of staff we encountered went above and beyond to make our experience one to remember forever.

My husband and I recently stayed at the beautiful Grand Hotel, Birmingham for 3 nights, to visit the Xmas markets and celebrate my husbands birthday.
We were in room 318, a 'Triple Family Room' Very spacious (+ large bathroom) Our room overlooked the Independant Xmas market, directly across the road. We had a fridge in the room, with daily refills of 2x bottled water + small bottle of milk, which was appreciated. Kettle, safe etc' provided.
The Frankfurt (German) market was also close by. Centrally located, with parking at the B4 car park (5 minute walk from the hotel) We were offered 55% discount if staying at the hotel. Approx' £37 for 3 nights parking. Pretty good for a large city.
On arrival, turn onto Church Street (off the main Colmore Road) to off load your case at the hotel, before heading to the car park. If you park on the main Colmore Road, traffic wardens are keen, so be warned! Luckily, we were directed.
Friendly, helpful staff throughout the hotel. My husband received chocolates for his birthday, which were left in our room. Nice touch! :-)
Breakfast was buffet style, hot/cold choices but you could individually order eggs to suit.
Would definitely recommend this hotel. Lovely building and decor. Extremely clean. Would stay here again. Pre- book restaurants to avoid disappointments.
Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful stay! :-)

Unfortunately The Grand Hotel Birmingham doesn’t have on-site car parking. Our local car parks are: B4 Car Park*, Weaman Street B4 6DG *Hotel guests benefit from 55% discount at B4 Car Park – please register with the hotel reception on arrival. This carpark looks more safe, that’s why I park this.
