As we came into the hotel looked classy and pleasant but as we go to our room it was cramped and very low standards. Our door didn’t shut properly, you had to tug it for it to shut properly this being a fire hazard. As we went out and came back we notice our stuff had been stolen, a lot of valuables and sentimental items. I went to the reception they said the couldn’t do anything and as I looked around realised there was no cctv despite the signs saying there were. Throughout the night aswell I noticed the key cards to get into the rooms worked on other doors and not just ours, I wouldn’t waste your money on this hotel unless you want your stuff to be robbed. This one night has left me and my friend with £1,000 less than what we came with. Am not happy

Where to start, literally checked in and checked out after 20 mins, the staff was not helpful at all, they had a rude attitude towards you, the reception looks really nice until you get to the lifts to your room, we booked a superior room which cost us 52 pound wasn't expecting luxury but this was just taking it to another level, kettle in the room was filthy as liked some body as urinated in the kettle and boiled it,there was mold in the bathroom cracked door frame, windows was cracked and filthy, no heating in the room no double glazed windows so was very noisy, dents in the walls carpet stunk, wouldn't advise booking this hotel what so ever.

This hotel is hands down the worst place I've ever had the misfortune to stay at. The area is a dump, car windows popped all down the road. I saw one of the local crackheads beating up a phonebox because it wouldn't accept his coins to get his fix - that's the area this hotel is in. The hotel staff were very confrontational when it came to checking in, especially around the issue of them 'requiring' photo identification. There is absolutely no need to provide photo ID if you are a British citizen staying in a hotel in the UK. Sure, they need to know who is staying but there is no legal case for requesting ID, which is the opposite of what the staff were saying to me. Very dodgy if you ask me. The reception area does look very smart and clean, but this is the only part of the building I can say that for. This is where all the money is spent as far as I can see. However, as you can see by the pictures, as soon as you go up a couple of stairs and turn around, it becomes clear it's all for show. Have a look at the pictures, the first one is half of the reception area, half of the stairwell, just look at the state of the wall on the left, this is what the rest of hotel is like. The next pictures show the hallways of the hotel which absolutely stink of damp and mould, and finally the other pictures are of the mould covered ceiling and walls in the bedroom. I was booked for 2 nights, begrudging stayed the one night then opted to have a 16hr work/travel day back home as I just couldn't stomach going back to this hell hole. If you value your health, then please don't stay here. Black mould is not only disgusting, but it's harmful to your lungs if inhaled. Finally, the way the hotel management respond to reviews on here is totally inappropriate and unprofessional. They seem to try and shift the blame onto the guest somehow or just say that the rooms aren't in that condition, you were wrong etc. One thing that I do agree with is that they have described the area as going through regeneration & that a lot of buildings have been marked for demolition. This is true, except this hotel should be one of these buildings. Terrible, awful hotel. If I could give minus stars, I would. I mentioned to the bar staff that the bar was the only room not to have mould in it. His response was "You don't know how many times I've been told that, I hear it all the time" I hope environmental health comes down on this place like a ton of bricks.

Thank you for your review. The Rowton is a 1903 grade II listed building and now a 241 room budget hotel. The surrounding areas are currently undergoing regeneration and widespread rebuilding, however there are no phone boxes in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. The wall mentioned is actually one of the preserved original glazed brick walls leading to the cellars, but of course we are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay and felt cause to complain.

Good location if you are a single male. I wouldn't want to walk the journey from the Bullring if I were female. The street the hotel was on had virtually most of the cars broken in to and quite a few undesirables outside. very argumentative staff when checking in. This opinion was shared by two builders who were checking in at the same time. the room was a single. Small but compact. The tv didn't work (neither did the clock on the wall) but this was fixed after 1st night.

Just awful! The room was extremely shabby with a crack across the ceiling, a stained carpet, the lamp not working, no door on the wardrobe (which was covered in dust) and filthy window frames with paint peeling off. The clock was not working, the pillows were cheap and nasty and there was a lingering smell of smoke in the room! We were stunned on arrival to discover that the free parking was not in fact a car park but rather, on the road outside - by the way, this was covered in smashed glass. The stair carpet was filthy and the walls were stained and really rather disgusting. Quite how this place has the cheek to call itself a hotel is beyond me!

There are car parks closer to Digbeth that are probably a bit more secure than the car park used by the Rowton/Paragon hotel. Pershore Street and the Markets come to mind that charge £4 - £5 per day.
