We stayed here for 1 night in December as we were attending an event at the O2 Academy.
We booked online at a price of £65 room only. Check in was ok, but no official check in or reception desk, odd but seemed efficient. Room was average size and clean, however it was very very basic. The sink is in the main bedroom and the toilet is separated by a small door, not really needed.

Location was great and it had on-site car parking which is payable at £7 per day. The room is very cold and clinical and there was no way to adjust the heat, there was also no extra blankets / pillows. None of this overly affected our 1 night stay although I probably wouldn't return.

The hotel is about 10 to 15 minutes walk from New Street Station and fairly easy to find. I had a twin room with my daughter and we were staying 2 nights. We were given an access room which was quite big with a wet room. I was disappointed that there was no tea making facilities and that I had to pay £1.50 to buy tea downstairs.
The beds were small but actually quite comfortable and I slept very well.
The sink in the wet room was quite small. After having a shower the floor was very wet right up to the toilet. The water didn’t all run away and I had to use my feet to push as much water away as possible. I asked a staff member how to dry the floor and it was suggested to use towels so I was given a couple extra. I just dried the part of the floor where we would be walking on to use the toilet and sink.
When we returned to our room in the evening I noticed that the floor around the shower was still very wet so the cleaners hadn’t dried it up. Maybe they aren’t meant to.

I had breakfast both mornings. As I would have had to pay for tea I thought is was worth paying for breakfast as tea etc is included. There was no hot food but there was adequate cold food. I I must say the ham was very good.

There were several fridges with drinks and a variety food to purchase. There was also a microwave to heat up food if needed.

There were 2 lifts but one didn’t work and from previous reviews it seems to have been out of order for a while. As I was in the first floor I did use the stairs rather than wait for the lift.

Overall a very pleasant stay. It was good value for the price I paid. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The hotel had really friendly staff who were very happy to help with any queries. Our first room had a leaking AC so they immediately gave us another room, however, there was a small fault in there which was fixed very quickly.

There was also hand sanitiser dotted around and face coverings are offered.

The rooms are extremely basic however, you do get what you pay for with this place as it is only a short walk to the bullring so is central. There is also parking on site, which is helpful.

The only downside was that unfortunately, the bed was very uncomfortable.

Someone else has commented that there isn't stairs here however, there is a staircase if you prefer this.

I have to admit that I am drawn to the Ibis budget brand. I have reviewed quite a few in various locations. I chose this one for its proximity to Birmingham's New Street Station. The hotel is situated in the Chinatown area, and is close to restaurants, markets and the Bullring shopping complexes.

On arrival the staff were friendly and advised us about the onsite bar, and cafe. On this occasion I choose not to go with the breakfast, but I did browse the menu which had the buffet breakfast on for GBP8.

The room I chose was a family layout; the room is slightly larger for the same price as a standard double. I found the room facilities adequate, with free guest Wi-Fi (which was extremely fast), a flat screen TV and tea and coffee making facilities. Not that I needed it but a hairdryer was also included.

The bed was extremely comfortable and for a Friday night extremely quiet. I knew there were various entertainment venues roundabouts but I didn't experience a level of noise to affect my sleep. The 'bathroom' facilities were good and clean. The room overall was functional and perfect for the price of GBP35* per night

*This was over the New Year period and could well have been a promotional rate which made it even better value for money, as of 9th February 2020 the rate was GBP56.05 (a discount applies if you are an Accor member) which still represents good value from my point of view.

I found myself in Birmingham again a few weeks later and as I was in Chinatown I thought I would call in to the Ibis and get a coffee while I waited for a friend, the greeting staff at the door asked if they could help, a coffee please I replied, no problem, how much would that be?

Even though I wasn't a guest at that time I was told that if I didn't mind using the guest coffee machine I could make myself one and for free. Thanks Ibis this is what I call great public relations, and makes me feel that I have chosen a brand that has customer service as a priority. To conclude, as I passed out of the hotel after my coffee I noticed a room rate sign quoting GBP189 a night, so I guess you should check online or ring the property to check!

We booked the Ibis, Colmore St Birmingham for an overnight stop before flying from Birmingham International. The Hotel is about 25 mins drive from the Airport and 10 mins walk from the City Centre. As expected Ibis is basic but clean, tidy and comfortable. We were met by lovely staff and booked in quickly. Breakfast can be had at extra cost and there is parking at £7 per day. We had an evening meal at a local pub at a reasonable cost much less than you’d pay at a Hotel on the Airport. We would definitely use the Ibis again.

The hotel was fine, but expensive for the amenities that were provided. There was not even a basic “on the wall” shampoo/body wash.
The beds were clean, but the mattress was very thin.
The main issue was the heat in the room, even with the window open the room did not cool down. And the fan did not cool at all.
The redeeming feature was the location, but even that had its limitations as the parking was so limited and the surrounding car parks were very expensive.

Dear 287stephenm We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the ibis budget Birmingham Centre. I regret that you found the temperature of your room to be too warm and am very sorry if this prevented you from enjoying a good sleep. Our Ibis hotels have an ‘air cooling’ system in place which does differ from air conditioning and this system is partly dependant on the external temperature. According to expected weather conditions for the time of year, the heating was on rather than the cooling system. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Regards Raul Navarro

I booked the ibis budget in January with my son for two nights while attending a show at the NEC and am extremely impressed with everything the hotel had to offer.
Room was spotless,
Shower excellent,
Good WiFi,
Breakfast more than adequate,
In particular the staff where excellent,my son's birthday was on our second morning and the staff on request went out of their way at breakfast time to start the day with a celebration for him which really made his day.
I can not recommend this hotel highly enough.

This hotel is absolutely disgusting.

Now to be completely upfront and further cement the review, I did not willingly book here. I travelled to Birmingham for business and the hotel was booked for me and my business partner on our behalves… big mistake.

This is not a hotel, it’s a hostel and beyond that - it’s not even a clean hostel, it’s literally a horror movie. This is literally the hostel from the horror movie hostel.

From broken hinged tissue holders, to dirt and food smeared over the wall, to hair found among the bedsheet to a stain on my mattress, a broken lobby fridge handle (on a fridge that didn’t even work) - this place is revolting.

Now bare in mind that IBIS itself is actually already a ‘budget’ option, so how a budget hotel can further ‘budget’ is beyond me. There was no reception in the room and the WIFI also didn’t work

All of this before I actually describe the room, there were a multitude of stains and dirt trailing all the way to the room in the corridors and upon initially entering the hotel, a multitude of beer drinking males freely walking around and to top it off - someone who I am 100% certain was on a serious form of heavy drug as she was spaced out and walking into objects whilst being directed by her husband to the room.

Now the room.

To start with, the toilet is literally a room. As in, there is a toilet in a cupboard. The shower is literally part of the room, it’s literally a door that you step into and find yourself in the shower. The bed is akin to a campers mattress and the chair you get at the ‘table area’ is literally a plastic chair.

I couldn’t even take pictures of the set up beyond the dirt, I was that much in shock.

I would not, in my wildest dreams, recommend anyone to stay here. If you are looking for a cheaper option, IBIS already is a entry level hotel, it’s impossible for an entry level hotel to go lower… that just breeds a whole host of problems as described. Also when they say budget… they mean it. I asked at the hotel desk for some toothpaste, they charged me £1. For a free pack of toothpaste you would get anywhere in any hotel complimentary.

Just for the record, I didn’t stay and ended up going to the Hampton By Hilton on Broad Street. I could not and would not submit myself to stay in a prison cell.

This is our 2nd time staying here. This hotel is very budget (no kettle, no space in the room etc.), but it's what you pay for. The location is central to most of Birmingham city centre as it's from within walking distance of many things.
The staff are all friendly and fun, they enjoy a good laugh.
The room was spotless and clean. There were people partying up late and in the morning the corridor was a mess, but the cleaners had sorted it out by the afternoon, so you can't really complain.

Some hints - the triple room is far too small for three people so don't book this thinking you'll have space. We booked a triple for two of us as we remembered from last time.

Three lifelong friends wanting to ‘meet in the middle’ for a long weekend of culture and a city fix. Finding a reasonably priced hotel room for three adults is not easy hence we ended up at the Ibis Budget. The design of the room is very clever but you do have to be good friends to share the space. The location was perfect for us as we could walk from the train station and also to all the theatres we were visiting. We ate breakfast in the room or at a nearby pub. Reception staff were great and our room was clean (thank you cleaning staff). Unfortunately this price point hotel does attract people wanting to come in drunk and shouting inconsiderately in the early hours which is unfortunate - two out of our four nights were disturbed by other guests shouting and prolonged banging on doors. Beds were very comfortable and the window opened allowing fresh air whilst sleeping which we welcomed.
