Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have stayed at Billycan 3 times now and it seems to get better each time we go! The Yurts, Bell tents and teepees are all fabulous. The owners are very friendly and welcoming, when we have arrived on a Friday night they have provided a delicious camp stew in the large communal area which is great as it gets everyone together at the start of the weekend (although purely optional if you prefer to have some privacy!) The location is stunning and tranquil and you can easily drive or walk along the river to Arundel, our kids loved swimming in the Lido and the amazing ice cream shop! Can't wait to come back again this year :-)

I have been going to Billycan, for many years now...and it only gets better. Honestly, the feeling you get when you're there, is indescribable. The kids were so happy, running through the grass, laughing with friends and getting back to the true meaning of 'a family holiday'. The girls that run the campsite were so welcoming and greeted us with a warm welcome and wonderful stew (even catered for me being a Vegetarian) I could not recommend this place enough. It's beautiful, and we've already booked for this year.

We had a lovely welcome on arrival on Friday and were shown to our very comfortable bell tent with enough beds in there for 5, although there were only 3 of us, my husband and 12 year old son. Very nicely furnished, with additional blankets, charcoal, tea lights and lanterns. Outside we had a deck, and a fire pit to cook our breakfast. We were given a breakfast hamper on arrival for the following morning which had delicious sausages, bacon, eggs, bread and butter all wrapped up in greaseproof paper nicely presented in a wicker basket. That evening our hosts lit the camp fire and we tucked into a delicious camp stew with lovely roasted potatoes and bread. Afterwards our son had hot chocolate and marshmallows. The campsite is well equipped with a communal cabin full to bursting with pots, pans, kettles, mugs, glasses, cutlery, coffee, tea, sugar, hot chocolate - you want for nothing (except food that you bring to cook yourself). The toilet facilities and showers are excellent - really clean and hot water - a must after a long day's cycling around the South Down. The campsite is positioned in a beautiful spot, just along the banks of the Arun and a short walk into Arundel. One thing we missed, and having seen it on the website, were a little disappointed that the bar on the campsite was not up and running. We had been looking forward to a mojito! Also, more information on the local area would have been helpful. A great weekend and we will definitely be back.

We raced straight from a long week at work at Billycan on Friday early evening. We were greeted by Sue and Alex, who were so welcoming and lovely, it felt a home from home within seconds of arriving. The Friday beef stew was heaven, our yurt was wonderfully furnished. Absolutely everything you need was to hand. It is a wonderfully well thought out campsite... exactly what we needed... a break from the news, wifi and emails. The river Arun runs besides the campsite and Arundel is a short walk for supplies. We enjoyed the South Downs Way just a short drive away. The views over Arundel as we sat by the campfire, with the wine in one hand and dinner in the other are moments in life to treasure. Thank you Billycan for our amazing weekend!!

Gorgeous views, lovely venue. Although weather was horrible it was the perfect wedding reception venue. Tents were great fun staying overnight and had a lazy Saturday day time, before more festivities on Saturday night.

Stayed in a yurt with wood burner and had all we needed. The owners and their crew are lovely people, Lainie especially (My 7-year-old daughter asked for that special mention but I agree absolutely!) and very relaxed, willing to listen and do whatever's possible. River 50 metres away and a 15 minute walk into Arundel. Interesting mix of 'working' castle, good espresso, pubs, shops and eating places. No play area per se but we felt that worked for us and our daughter. She joined in with the kids already there and, when they left, welcomed new arrivals into the ever-changing group of holiday pals. Kids have their own tepee to share. Great to see what kids create when there's no play equipment, no technology. And . . . no small thing . . . great showers!!

This is the 2nd year that my husband and I have been to stay at Billycan and we love it. It is so relaxed and the setting is breath taking - who wouldn't want to look up at the clear sky at night lit up with stars and only hear the sound of wildlife? The set up is really different and I like the fact that it is run by owners who care about their guests and the wildlife around them. If you want a really relaxing time in gorgeous surroundings and lots of privacy then this is the place to go. For me it is like an oasis in this mad world. Thank you so much!!!

We've been spending one w/e a year meeting the same group of friends and family for 5yrs+ and have gone to some highly recommended sites, but this was easily the best. The way the yurts/tents are well spread out gives privacy when you want it and the communal kitchen/cooking washing facilities are excellent. Superbly equipped. Relaxed feel. Footie pitch. Great fire-pits. Excellent hot showers. It's all very well thought through and led to a lovely 3 days. Arundel and around the Arun, lovely. Littlehampton sea front impressed us, but the locals less so. Great bluebell woods in Angmering Park. Really excellent set-up. Nothing to criticise.

Stayed here for two nights durning bank holiday weekend and were thoroughly impressed. Certainly not a place for those looking for a true rough camping experience, but a nice in between for people who lwant to experience the outdoor swith a few of the comforts of home. Some highlights: - meal of stew was hot, ready, and waiting for us when we arrived Friday evening. Staff even contacted us as we were travelling in from London to make sure that they saved some for us as most of the other guests had already arrived - breakfast hamper with locla bacon, eggs, milk, and sausage. - your own BBQ/fire pit for cooking/warmth with fire wood provided. Kindling in the form of smaller logs was hard to come by and you need to bring your own fire starting equipment (there is a gas burner in the common area for the fire-startingly-challenged!) - wide assortment of utensils, dishes, and pots to use to for cooking - great location equally 1 mile away from train stations (Ford and Arundel), as well as having easy access to the 1 mi river path that leads into town. - showers / loos with hot water. certainly not to be undersold when camping! - drinking water taps to refill water bottles rather than having to bring your own - friendly and helpful staff present for the first night and who are reachable at all times during the stay Cons: - BYO-marshmallows to roast if there's a chance there are families with small children staying at the site. They WILL be gone before you can blink. If this is your biggest problem, that's a pretty good trip. - on the pricier side (plus 2-night minimum), but you absolutely get what you pay for!
