Walked around Arundel Castle park and booked the inn online for Sunday lunch mainly because of the reviews and that it had its own car park. Arundel is very busy on a Sunday! Friendly welcome from Sam and the team. She could see that the four of us we a bit concerned at being seated next to a large family birthday lunch so she immediately suggested another quieter table. Ordered our Sunday roasts (two chicken breast and two rump of beef) and when they came they looked and tasted delicious. Yorkshires melted in your mouth not at all stodgy. Two lovely slices of slightly pink beef, roasted potatoes and a bowl of seasonal vegetables to share between each couple. Some very generous portions of piping hot blackberry and apple crumble and we were absolutely full. Thoroughly recommend the inn for a Sunday roast if you’re in the Arundel area. You won’t be disappointed.

Room Tip: St Mary’s Gate Inn has its own car park. It’s right next to the RC cathedral.

Paid £60 for a Room and Breakfast, amazing value, breakfast was perfect and the room was so cosy and homely! Right in the heart of Arundel we were next to the Cathedral and 5 mins walk to the Town. We had a drink in the Bar in the evening too, good prices, great atmosphere and friendly staff. We would definitely stay here again, especially as our Family live in East Preston.

Hi,

A lovely pub next to the Cathedral,
Nice service- my partner had the vegan burger, really nice I ordered gammon steak egg & chips I got wafer thin ham egg & chips.
Come on guys if your going to do it make sure you get it right, let the customer know if you haven’t got the gammon steak, don’t replace with rubbish.

Andy.

We stayed here for a local wedding having booked months in advance. A day or so before (aka no option to change) we were told that there would be a DJ on until midnight in the adjoining bar but it would be quiet after.

Actually the DJ was firing out bangers at festival volume and MC'ing over the top until after 1am, about 2m yards from the room's window. Then, smashed locals were milling about in the dark carpark outside the door shouting at each other for a bit too (by the cars). Why??

The room was reasonably presented but tired and obviously done on the cheap, the mattress was thin and you could feel the springs scraping each other and poking you, the bathroom was abdly fitted and you had to jerry rig the shower head sideways to get the water to dispense into the cubicle, not down the wall. The electric towel rail was locked on so was scorching hot all night next to the bathroom door and the plumbing groaned and grated for 5 mins afte running the tap. Needless to say we didn't have a restful night.

We came down for breakfast and things were equally dissapointing there, one lone staff member was tending to the breakfasts and she seemed to take an immediate dislike to us as she was eminating angry mean girl energy at us throughout.

We were travelling with vegans who had called head to make sure there was something they could have for breakfast, turns out that doesn't count for much as the same staff member came over to the table 3 times to tell us that more and more of the full english wasn't available (impacting them each time). This was delivered with a signature shrug and walk away as if to say, I couldn't care less. The vegans got beans and tomatoes on dry toast.

In fairness the bacon was pretty decent but everything else was cheap and bland, and if you do go, whatever you do, do not take them up on a poached egg, I'd have swapped it with a squash ball in an instant. Oh and the food took 50 minutes to turn up with the staff feeding everyone else in the restaurant first, despite us arriving first.

I know what you're thinking, these were probably horrible guests and the staff were doing their best... Nope, we were fully chill and polite throughout, the extent of our 'grumbling' was to queitly ask if breakfast would be long as we had people waiting on us.

If this had been a £40/50 B&B I'd not be so harsh here, but this room was over £100 and for something twice the price of a holiday Inn room, they need to do a heck of a lot better, on service and ameneties.

My wife and I popped in for coffee an hour before a concert. Our original plan was tk have a pizza afterwards, but the pub had such a welcoming atmosphere that we changed our plans and had a delicious homemade sandwich in the St Mary’s Gate Inn, a decision we did not regret. Lively staff, homely decor and a log fire too. 10 out of 10

Met up with friends for lunch for the first time since January 2020. Although it was a Sunday the Sunday menu included more than just roasts and a side selection of dishes were selected.

Everyone enjoyed their meals and the outside decking area provided a good place for our party of 8. Roasts were substantial, salads fresh and tasty and BBQ ribs vey good. Chocolate Brownie and Apple Crumble deserts both good sized and enjoyable portions. Good service and friendly staff.

The pub is slightly outside the main town being by the Cathedral and despite many visits to Arundel over the years not a venue we had previously visited. We will be back before long!

My wife and I stayed at the Inn for one night. The room was extremely clean, spacious and comfortable. The Bar/Restaurant - the staff were very friendly, helpful and certainly made you feel welcome. The food and it's presentation were to a very high standard, the food being delicious. We would be quite willing to drive the 40 miles there just to have a nice meal out one evening. Compliments to all the staff, sorry I have forgotten their names. We would highly recommend a stay here and a meal and we certainly look forward to our next stay. Thank you

Hot hot hot. The steak and ale pie not only came with a generous helping of fresh vegetables and gravy but was so hot that we could only sit and breathe in the delicious aroma for five minutes. Attentive, cheerful staff and great beers make this inn a good place to lunch after a visit to Arundel castle. Prices are very reasonable, too.

A rough and ready Inn (a pub with rooms) but conveniently situated near the Castle and the Cathedral. A short walk up the hill from the town centre may be a challenge for some people. Reception is at the end of the bar and the staff not too friendly when checking in but the staff serving at breakfast was very helpful, friendlier and prompt. Room was small with all the essentials and tea/coffee making facilities. Could not make the heater in the room work - too complicated for us! The television was slow to react to the remote control at start so bear with it and it improves.

We just stayed 2 nights at this charming B&B in the cute town of Arundel. Our room was recently remodeled and it was located slightly off from the main pub, but had a covered walkway connecting it. The staff were friendly and both dinner and breakfast were good. It had a real locals feel to it.
