A lovely pub next to the Cathedral,
Nice service- my partner had the vegan burger, really nice I ordered gammon steak egg & chips I got wafer thin ham egg & chips.
Come on guys if your going to do it make sure you get it right, let the customer know if you haven’t got the gammon steak, don’t replace with rubbish.
Andy.
Actually the DJ was firing out bangers at festival volume and MC'ing over the top until after 1am, about 2m yards from the room's window. Then, smashed locals were milling about in the dark carpark outside the door shouting at each other for a bit too (by the cars). Why??
The room was reasonably presented but tired and obviously done on the cheap, the mattress was thin and you could feel the springs scraping each other and poking you, the bathroom was abdly fitted and you had to jerry rig the shower head sideways to get the water to dispense into the cubicle, not down the wall. The electric towel rail was locked on so was scorching hot all night next to the bathroom door and the plumbing groaned and grated for 5 mins afte running the tap. Needless to say we didn't have a restful night.
We came down for breakfast and things were equally dissapointing there, one lone staff member was tending to the breakfasts and she seemed to take an immediate dislike to us as she was eminating angry mean girl energy at us throughout.
We were travelling with vegans who had called head to make sure there was something they could have for breakfast, turns out that doesn't count for much as the same staff member came over to the table 3 times to tell us that more and more of the full english wasn't available (impacting them each time). This was delivered with a signature shrug and walk away as if to say, I couldn't care less. The vegans got beans and tomatoes on dry toast.
In fairness the bacon was pretty decent but everything else was cheap and bland, and if you do go, whatever you do, do not take them up on a poached egg, I'd have swapped it with a squash ball in an instant. Oh and the food took 50 minutes to turn up with the staff feeding everyone else in the restaurant first, despite us arriving first.
I know what you're thinking, these were probably horrible guests and the staff were doing their best... Nope, we were fully chill and polite throughout, the extent of our 'grumbling' was to queitly ask if breakfast would be long as we had people waiting on us.
If this had been a £40/50 B&B I'd not be so harsh here, but this room was over £100 and for something twice the price of a holiday Inn room, they need to do a heck of a lot better, on service and ameneties.
Everyone enjoyed their meals and the outside decking area provided a good place for our party of 8. Roasts were substantial, salads fresh and tasty and BBQ ribs vey good. Chocolate Brownie and Apple Crumble deserts both good sized and enjoyable portions. Good service and friendly staff.
The pub is slightly outside the main town being by the Cathedral and despite many visits to Arundel over the years not a venue we had previously visited. We will be back before long!
