Booked to stay at The Vestry for a weekend in Chichester for a family reunion and my mum’s 80th birthday which was being held in another hotel in the city
I have to say very disappointed with overall exterior appearance upon arrival and notice on their very smart website there is no photo of the exterior and there’s obviously a reason for that, if I’d seen a picture whilst looking for somewhere to stay I wouldn’t have booked … their website describes the establishment as the hotel is ‘nestled’ in the heart of the Chichester .. and as well as the hotel it boasts the best and busiest bar in the city ! It gives a misleading impression of the hotel being a separate entity.. in fact I’m not sure it can even call itself a hotel … it’s a bar .. with 11 rooms above. The hotel check in desk is tucked in the corner of the bar, and if you arrive during a busy afternoon’s service, it’s very difficult to hear anything the receptionist is saying.
The rooms which are accessed via a private entrance are located up a flight of stairs (there’s no lift)
The room, on first impressions was adequately clean in the main areas, bedding sink toilet and Bath/shower … however once we’d settled in … we started to notice lots of unclean areas … including dusty wooden skirting boards and Bath panel, very dirty on the floor behind the bathroom door and at the end of the bedspread a blood stain … basic cleaning had been done, but a deeper attention to detail clean certainly hadn’t.
We were aware that on Friday and Saturday evenings there is music in the bar which takes on a nightclub feel with people queuing outside and bouncers on the door … unfortunately our room was immediately above the bar’s entrance so incredibly noisy … the music wasn’t the problem, it was the people leaving the bar at 2 am and talking, shouting etc loudly outside our window for at least an hour !
Ear plugs are provided next to the tea and coffee tray !
Breakfast which is included in the room rate and was excellent, the scrambled egg and smoked salmon was delicious
All the staff were friendly and polite and one lady who was the receptionist (and breakfast waitress) on Saturday morning, was very helpful booking us a suitable size taxi to get to the birthday celebration…
It’s a shame it has the potential to be fabulous, it’s such a good location for walking to Chichester’s centre, for restaurants and shopping but it’s overpriced £112.50 a night for the standard we received

We stayed here for the Festival of Speed weekend. As we had left booking a hotel until late, it was very expensive for a room over a pub but that was our fault for not booking sooner. The usual price would have been good value.
The staff were very friendly and service was good.
The location was also very central and the free parking was good.
The room was a good size, great shower and comfy bed. It was also clean. Nice touches with chocolates and fresh towels both days.
We did however hear a lot of noise until 2am both Friday and Saturday night from the pub below. This was a big drawback!
The breakfast selection was good, however the ingredients were not the best quality.

On the booking site it says that the live music on a Thursday won't disturb people as they have adequate sound-proofing. That's not accurate. Music and accompanying noise was pretty loud until 2am, so sleep was difficult.
The room was good and well sized.
Breakfast at 7.30 wasn't brilliant. The pastry/cold section was good but the full English was disappointing. The hash brown was compressed and looked as though it was left over from the day before, and it was quite greasy. The eggs were also pretty greasy. No check-back was made and there was only me eating at that point. When I made comments they were neutrally received and I don't recall an apology just that they would be passed on to the kitchen.

The Vestry was ideal for our Sunday night stay in Chichester and we couldn't fault it. All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful, the room was very large and comfortable, and the location was great for the visitor sites, city centre, restaurants and train station. We would stay again.

Excellent service , easy check in . Clean tidy spacious room . We stayed on a Sunday night so wasn’t so noisy just a little talking outside as it is a bar and we had the front room number 1 , but if you stay at a weekend they have music so goes on late . Breakfast was perfect , cereal mini cakes, fruit , orange juice and a good breakfast menu I love eggs Benedict do was pleased to see it in the menu . You get two card keys one for working your electrics and one to get in and out . Thank you for a lovely stay . Would Defiantly return .

My stay at this hotel was sadly troubled by noise at night lasting until after 2 a.m. I didn't realise this pub/hotel effectively turns into a nightclub during the evening. They even had bouncers on the door! I was given a room over the front entrance which probably reduced the amount of noise from the speakers at the back of the bar but there was a constant noise from the customers smoking outside the front of the bar. As we got to 2 a.m. there was a cacophony of noise outside my first floor window.

The staff were very nice and very helpful. On arrival one of them even carried my bicycle up to my first floor bedroom. The hotel boasted a cooked breakfast but sadly on arrival in the breakfast room I was told that the kitchen was out of action. The replacement continental breakfast wasn't very good.

Despite all these problems I must compliment the hotel on the cleanliness of my room and the good quality bed.

A very noisy stay in room 9, loud disco until 2am Friday and Saturday and then karaoke on Sunday night, much louder than their advance notice. An expensive room rate for a seedy pub. They couldn't cope with an early breakfast at 8 am on weekends so we could start our ramble on time, and the next morning the electric was down, so no breakfast; the offer of writing to the manager to get a small rebate, resulted in zilch.

We booked this hotel for the location right in the middle of the City centre as it also includes parking. The room was very spacious, clean and very comfortable. The king size bed with luxury bedding was delightful. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We stayed on a Wednesday when the bar was relatively quiet, but as accommodation is above the bar area it may be a little noisy for some on busy days. Breakfast was included and freshly cooked to order.

I booked this place because they offered private parking. The instructions provided by the Vestry stated that the parking spaces are in Southgate Car Park. They are not! They are just outside the car park which has cameras. If you enter the Car Park and do not buy a ticket you will end up with a £100 fine (so generously reduced to £60 if you pay within 14 days). The private operators of the car park are a bunch of sharks. If you are coming by car, read the small print about the Vestry car parking spaces carefully and DO NOT enter the car park. Staff were friendly but I ended up paying a lot more for this stay than it was worth!

We stayed hear for one night and check in was very quick and easy. A very spacious room with a very comfortable bed. clean and tidy and good covid. Happy hour till 6pm in the bar which had again good covid. Separate entrance to Rooms upstairs so you didn't have to go through the bar all the time only problem is this also where the smokers tend to stand outside. Free parking after 6pm until 10 am with pub voucher. ( £1.40 per hour outside of this) Ideal position for the Cathedral and walk in to the town centre. Staff all very helpful friendly and good breakfast selection. Pub closed at 10pm but looked as though it was set up for late night disco and dance area so maybe a bit noisy pre Covid.
