Driving up to Hinsley Hall through its well kept park with mature trees and squirrels, we were glad we didn't pick Holiday Inn Express or Premier Inn for our short Leeds break. Hinsley Hall is different: not a hotel, not a hostel, more a calm oasis away from the city's hustle. Yes, the dark stone Victorian buildings have religious overtones - the place functions as a Catholic diocesan and retreat centre, as well as a conference venue, and is named in celebration of an early C20th cardinal and Archbishop of Westminster. But it's clean, light and well modernised. Look past the pictures of modern saints and the little chapel and you find everything the budget traveller needs: a spotlessly clean, comfortable room with a comfy bed and a good bathroom; charming, helpful staff from reception through to housekeeping; lots of of places to eat and drink within 10 minutes walk; plenty of parking space; several bus lines into town; and very generous, good quality buffet breakfasts (this is Yorkshire, after all!)
We were so impressed that we hoped to stay a second night but found there were no rooms left - such is the quiet success that the hospitality team at Hinsley have created. We'll definitely stay again and use it as a base for discovering West Yorkshire and the Dales. Many thanks to everyone for such a pleasant first visit!

We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and had a very easy check-in, we were taken to our room and also shown where everything was to be found including the breakfast room.
Our room was a good size, lovely view of the gardens and bathroom with all we needed in there.
Or stay was very relaxing, close to local restaurants and excellent value for money.

Hinsley Hall is set in a very peaceful and quiet location in Headingley, Leeds. There is a very peaceful atmosphere in the building and the staff throughout are very friendly. We had a clean and comfortable room with an on suite shower room and another room with a tv, desk and sofa.
There are kitchenettes on each floor which have a sink, tea, coffee and hot water facilities and there is a lounge on the ground floor which also has a tea and coffee machine.

A very good buffet breakfast which had a good choice on both mornings.

A good location for the university building and would be happy to stay there again.

If going by car there is plenty of free parking too.

Managed to find this place quite by accident/luck when searching the internet the night before I was due to travel to Leeds.
As I was forced into driving then it was imperative to find a hotel that had parking which is like a needle in a haystack in Leeds and made harder by the fact I was going to be near Leeds University up in Headingley so I had pretty much given up.

But low and behold a last ditch search threw up Hinsley Hall who had one room left and for an unbelievable price of £59 inc breakfast.

Hotel itself is absolutely stunning in an equally impressive location.

Upon arrival next afternoon I was able to park in the knowledge my car would be safe and booked in, front of house receptionist was very friendly and gave me all the info I needed including location of complimentary coffee/ tea facilities (as there are none in the room) as well as the location of the dining room for the following mornings breakfast.

I needed to grab some dinner and as luck would have it, right at the entrance to the hotel is a huge recently refurbed Wetherspoons pub so I was able to grab something to eat and a few beers before heading off to Leeds Uni which was all of 15 minute walk away!

As I normally book a room with a double bed, getting a room with a single bed is somewhat of an anomaly for me but my request for extra pillows was met and I got a fab nights sleep. The TV was small but perfect for the room and the complimentary toiletries as well as fantastic fluffy towels were excellent too. Shower was nice and hot next morning so I felt great!

As others have said - the hotel and its grounds are spotlessly clean which was also impressive!

Lastly I had chance to sample breakfast before I left which had a huge selection ranging from Toast, cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurts and traditional cooked breakfast with a multitude of items to chose from...
Breakfast was top notch and one of the best I have had in any hotel, kitchen staff were polite and pleasant too!

Overall the hotel far exceeded my expectations (in light of the price paid) and I'd not hesitate to book again next time I'm in Leeds! Well done to all at Hinsley Hall!!!

This was a great find by my other half as we were looking for somewhere close to the Headingley venue for cricket and rugby league.
Ignore any reviews from those who don't 'get' what this place is.
If you're looking at the outside thikning plush rooms with very new and plush furnishings, then go elsewhere. I loved this place probably more because it wasn't that. The room was VERY clean, the bed comfortable, and the bathroom functional, which included a singing shower that just made you laugh!
There's a reasonably stocked bar, a latge room where you can make tea/ coffee at all hours, and one on the 1st floor too on a smaller scale.
Forgot to say, our room also had a little sitting room which was nice for chilling out before bed. Plenty of parking spaces.
Breakfast included everything you might want, full English, cereals, fruit, yoghurt...
Would go there again, most definitely. Almost reluctent to recommend so it doesn't get too busy and mean we can't book :-)
Well done to EVERYONE who is a part of this establishment.

We were simply intrigued by this unusual place when we were looking for somewhere to stay near Leeds recently. We drove up the drive and followed the well signposted route to the ample, free car park near the main building in the grounds here. Check in was done quickly with a friendly chap who was happy to help us explain where everything was in this unusual hotel cum religious conference centre.

I had a single room Room 37 on the 1st floor that could have been mistaken for a modern monk's cell. There was a single bed pushed up against the wall. There was also a tiny desk and chair & a tiny flat screen TV mounted on the wall. There was a small bedside table with a reading lamp. In the separate small, but functional bathroom the shower worked well, there were sufficient toiletries and some good quality, thick white towels. There were enough sockets and the free WiFi worked well

Whilst there were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, downstairs there were a number of machines for making your own hot beverage. I can recommend the hot chocolate just before turning in for the night.

Breakfast was in a dining room on the ground floor and it was surprisingly good with a good choice of cereals, yoghourts, juices etc. and a counter bordering the kitchen where you could select the items for your full English breakfast. Tea and coffee was readily available.

Even though we were only here for one night, we had everything we needed for a comfortable overnight stay. Oh, and whilst it is set off away from the hub bub of modern life, you only have to walk down to the bottom of the drive to find a large Wetherspoons pub and further right, down the road, a selection of pubs and restaurants.

I stayed here for one night while seeing a gig at the arena, this hotel is in a fantastic location just a short ride away from city centre, and a little oasis in Leeds with beautiful grounds and a stunning building with lots of history. Absolute fantastic value for money, which included TV, Wifi, Toiletries, Tea/Coffee facilities, breakfast and a car parking space. The breakfast was of good standard, room was spotless and the kitchen area on each floor offers a range of hot drink facilities. A very impressive and happy experience here, i wish i was there longer to explore more of the building and the grounds, and i will most certainly return here on any future trips to Leeds.

I was travelling to Leeds to see a concert at the Arena. All the city centre hotel prices went stupidly high as soon as the tickets were released. I know Hinsley Hall is a little out from the centre, but it's just a 10 minute taxi ride through the University district, or a 4 minute ride on the train into the centre. It is also walkable on a cooler evening - but this was one of the hottest days of the year.
Hinsley Hall offered a single ensuite room at an affordable rate. It was clean, safe and comfortable. My room was just the right size for one, and the bathroom was almost as big, with fluffy white towels and a good shower - which was needed several times on such a hot day.
Tea and coffee facilities are freely available to all guests in a little kitchenette close to the room.
Breakfast was plentiful, with good vegetarian choices as well as the usual full English items. The dining room was sunny and airy with plenty of space.
Everything was clean and the staff were helpful and courteous, ordering a taxi for me in the early evening.
The building is attractive with well maintained grounds and all in all I enjoyed my stay.

Hinsley Hall is a beautiful and tranquil hotel in Headingly. Also used as a conference centre and formerly a catholic retreat with continuing links. The grounds are fabulous and so well kept. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly. The whole hotel was immaculately clean. Our room looked out onto the courtyard and had a large bathroom with a shower. The water was always plentiful and very hot. The bed was comfortable and king sized. I did point out that there was only one double power point and only one bedside lamp. It was pointed out to me that the age of the building would not support more power sockets at present. It would have been nice to have been given a better selection of toiletries plus some tissues. The bedroom would have looked more homely with a simple painting or wall hanging.

Breakfast - buffet style- was plentiful with a great choice of hot and cold dishes. We really appreciated the provision of a large selection of hot drinks in the lounge - included in the price. Plus a pantry with tea, coffee etc located on the corridor
Wifi was perfectly acceptable and available throughout the hotel
We would certainly make a return visit on our next visit to Leeds. Hyde park is found about 10 minutes walk up the road and perfect for a run or a stroll. There are some excellent restaurants within walking distance.

We stayed one night and had no idea that this place is owned by the Catholic Church. Friendly enough staff but the rooms beggar believe in this day and age: Well hidden sockets behind the beds only, tiny TV just below the ceiling, bathroom from the 60’s and to top it all no water in the morning for ages. Coffee machine during breakfast was broken & our eggs were cold by the time we found another machine in the building. Lots of pictures of ‘Saints’ everywhere which is fine if you are religious I guess. To be fair they refunded 50% of the price after we complained. It really should be made clear on their website that this is no hotel by a long way but a clean Hostel style place.
