We arrived on a Sunday at the end of February and found it easy to park in the car park at the back of the hotel on Brown Street.
The room was a reasonable size there was a bath and shower but the bathroom tiles could've done with a bit of a scrub up.
The location is perfect it's probably a good choice at the right price. We would stay again the next time we are in Salisbury.

We were invited to my aunt's 90th birthday party at this hotel. We stayed the night following the party to save a drive home in the dark. The staff were quite welcoming when we arrived and we were able to access our room immediately although it was before lunch. The room was clean though the bathroom needed refurbishing. My sister had been given a free upgrade and said her room was better.
We enjoyed coffee in reception before the party and time together there after the event too. It was decorated well for Christmas. The breakfast was disappointing; the mushrooms were very salty and the tomatoes were peppery. Why can't food be offered without so much seasoning? The eggs had been cooked some time so were getting congealed.

Dear COLYTO Thank you for choosing to stay with us after celebrating your aunt's 90th Birthday at the White Hart Hotel. I was pleased that the team were able to assist upon your early arrival, and that the hotel decorations during the Festive period were appreciated. However I was disappointed to read of your concerns relating to breakfast and will share this with the Head Chef and Breakfast brigade so that all the necessary action can be taken where appropriate. We hope we have the pleasure in your company sometime in the future. Kind Regards Mark Postlethwaite General Manager

Old-fashioned good quality service, we could not fault this hotel in any way. Staff were professional and very helpful, an extremely dog friendly hotel, rooms we comfortable and meals were lovely – the 2 course meal at the hotel was good value for money and delicious, breakfast we extremely well presented, it was nice to have the option to order extra items such as omelette or eggs royale, smoked kippers etc.. Hotel is within easy walking distance to the shops and cathedral/magna carta and stonehenge is a short drive away (free entrance for National Trust members). Car parking £6.50, dog £15 per night

Thank you SainteTrephine We appreciate you taking the time in letting us know of your recent visit to the White Hart Hotel in Salisbury. I was so pleased to read your kind words of praise for the hotel during your stay with us. As you eluded to, the hotel is well situated in the heart of the city close to the Cathedral which hosts the magna cart as well the many shops, bars and restaurants in the city square, and of course the world heritage site at Stonehenge just a short drive away, or by the city transport links. I am sure that the team will be as proud as me that you had an enjoyable stay and very much look forward in welcoming you back in the future. Kind Regards Mark Postlethwaite General Manager

This hotel is in a great location to explore the cathedral and city on foot. The parking is at the rear of the hotel with plentiful places at £6.50 for an overnight period. The staff were pleasant and accommodating.

The hotel itself is of course an historical building and sells itself with its historical claims of its famous guests. However, it shouldn’t rest on its laurels! The decor is ghastly, shabby and dated and would benefit from an upgrade, maintenance and attention needed to general housekeeping. The external entrance and rear garden entrance looks uninviting and shabby.

Our room was facing the front of the hotel and sold as an upgrade suite....it certainly didn’t feel like an upgrade (unless they deem a coffee machine to be a privilege). The room was a little noisy near the stairs and of course due to its age, it was noisy when someone walked by. The room decor was rather dull and dated and no attention to housekeeping, dust and dirty finger mark buildup on wardrobe/toilet door; dirty ceiling and holes were old fitting had been etc. The bed linen was clean thankfully! Dirty marks/dust throughout. The bed was hard and uncomfortable as were the pillows; no selection provided.

The bathroom was functional and adequate but again dirty marks. The towels/robes provided were rough and nor bath sheet size.

There are snug areas to the lobby but again the majority of the chairs were well used, dirty (some with dog hairs) and generally in poor order. Even the fireside looked unappealing as a Helmann mayonnaise plastic container was used as a log carrier and just not befitting of a graded historical hotel.

The continental breakfast in the dining area was very basic but adequate and with some prepared help yourself hot food. There was some uncut bread openly displayed but hard/dry. Perhaps a cloth should be provided to cover the bread; this could also be used when cutting to avoid others having to directly hold the bread loaf with potential to pass on germs by touch. There is a menu to order cooked breakfast option ie eggs/omelet. I ordered poached eggs; these were served on soggy bread without any garnish or imaginative dressing of a plate showing lack of culinary catering skill/experience; it was served more like a plate in a 1970’s transport cafe.

Overall a disappointing experience and sadly not many positives to write about this hotel.

Dear Dorette We appreciate your review following your stay with us at the Mercure White Hart Hotel. Although I am obviously concerned to read your comments and wish to apologise for not meeting your expectations on this occasion. Firstly on my return I noticed the offending item near the fire place which had been ashamedly left by the porter and went unnoticed by the team, I can assure you that I have already expressed my upset. Your keen eye for detail will assist me in reviewing the cleanliness with the Housekeeping team and observations to improve the breakfast service with the Restaurant and Kitchen teams. The hotel bedrooms are in the process of a refurbishment programme with sample rooms ready for approval to confirm and agree the next stages of this process, along with future plans for additional accommodation we are committed to improving both the quality and level of services we offer. Kind Regards Mark Postlethwaite General Manager

Oh dear I'm sorry to say our stay here was very tiresome to say the least.

I total understand that the industry has taken a hit due to Covid-19 but boy oh boy this company really are not even trying to encourage good reviews.

While pubs and restaurants have been closed and a lot of them have used the time to revamp their establishments to make sure that when they do open everything is in place clean and working and spot on, this establishment as far as I can see has not even tried to put its house/hotel in order.

Air conn in room not working (36 degrees outside) No real cups or glasses in room, 1 half full roll of toilet paper, batteries in remote dead. I know these are trivial but hay I have to keep going to reception to inform the one and only Maria who was all throughout our stay the Cinema Sales/ticket lady, Popcorn maker and who showed us to our seat.

She kindly put us in another room which by the way the air conn just blow out air not cooled at all but I could not bear to ask Maria to change rooms again as she was already working her socks off.

The place in my opinion has opened too soon and Management seem to have put their staff in an awful position.

Thank you Maria you made our stay :-)

Its a shame, as this hotel is in a prime location and should be fresh and up to date not tired and understaffed.

Oh and by the way you have to pay for parking its not included.

We were initially disappointed with this place as we had booked an executive room via booking.com and the room itself bore no relation to the photo on their website, neither were a lot of the 'extras' present (sofa, air-con, only a standard double bed etc). When checking on the Accor website the description was a lot more honest !

Apart from that it was a fairly decent room, classily furnished though without air-con it was very hot, even with the windows open. We did get a decent view but consequentially it was fairly noisy, though this wasn't a huge issue.
Location was a definite plus point, staff were friendly, especially in the tidy bar area, however the wearing of face masks was not always being well policed.
Bed was comfortable, shower was a bit weedy, and the wardrobe and general storage space was lacking.
Fridge was a nice touch but probably contributed to the heat problem !

Overall could recommend, but be very careful to check the room upgrade options !

Ridiculously bad quality (service and condition). Arrived at hotel at 6pm, only to be told hotel was full and there weren't rooms available and we had to leave!! Other than 1 receptionist who was on duty, no manager around to explain or resolve problem.
All she could say was they don't understand why we had a booking (even though we had email confirmation of booking and messages about what to do upon arrival) and they have no available room. After a great deal of complaining & refusal to leave (because there was no room available elsewhere since it was so late), they somehow managed to find us 2 rooms (after abt 1.5 hrs of arguing and asking for help to find a place to sleep for the night with kids in tow!) .

Whilst bedding was clean, the hotel looked nothing like the pictures, much older condition than the pics suggested. One room had no air conditioning, only a little fan despite 32 degrees heat. The other room did have air conditioning but it didn't work. Also thank god for a little fan, otherwise it would be unbearable. Both double bedrooms were simply 2 single beds pushed together. TVs in both rooms weren't working at all, could not be switched on. Hot and cold water switches in the shower for both rooms didn't work properly, either too hot or too cold.

Breakfast was provided complimentary as an apology but would normally be chargeable for £12 each. All it was is 3 mini pastries, drinks, 1 apple and 1 little tub of cornflakes provided in the hotel reception in a takeaway bag. Whilst complimentary breakfast was appreciated, a word of warning £12 doesn't buy much....

All in all, not one to be recommended and certainly undeserving of the 4 stars advertised.

THE GOOD. Location, staff. Because of Covid 19 we didn't have much contact with staff but they were as friendly and helpful as possible under the circumstances.
THE BAD Small room in old part of hotel, The TV on the dressing table almost completely obscured the mirror. Directly outside the room were extractor fans for the kitchens. We would not rate this room as any higher than two star. Because of Covid, meals had to be taken in the room. Consequently we didn't eat in the hotel. The pub on the opposite corner is excellent.
THE UGLY. According to the booking website, the hotel was a four star, and charges were £80 per night for three nights. So £240. including taxes and services. Happy; hotel booked. Received email receipt - unhappy. Over £133 had been added for (cleaning and taxes). No problem, just cancel. Called hotel to cancel, sorry you booked through an agent called Agador, you need to call them. Entered booking reference, got through to an agent who told me they could not cancel as I booked through another site, gave me their number. No not us try these. Not them either. Basically given run around. In the end couldn't cancel within the time frame. So paid over £370 for three nights in a two star hotel. I know I should have been more careful when paying but after being in lockdown for three months was just to keen to be getting out. We would not stay in this hotel again. Its day as Salisbury's premium hotel are long over. In better times possibly a three star.

Overall this isn't a bad place to stop. Car parking is free and located to the rear of the hotel, you need only register your car number plate at the reception desk.

Public areas are pleasant, with lovely chairs and sofas to relax in. Our room was tidy and the bed comfy, that said for £96 it was the most cramped room we had, that also needed some tlc.

Breakfast in the morning was good value for money although hot drinks had to be asked for.
