We came here for a staycation and firstly I can’t rave enough about how fantastic the room was; it was a basic double but it was huge! The bed was massive and so comfy, the shower was so powerful, excellent air con system that didn’t blast directly on you in bed. Complimentary Elemis products and the room had iron, hairdryer, clothes brush, etc. We slept excellently and that is a must in a hotel.
Sadly breakfast was a bit hectic and disorganised. Every table seemed to have to chase to place their order and everyone needed to ask for milk. The toast was just warm bread and the coffee was very weak. The breakfast was tasty enough and the croissants were delicious.
Luckily we noticed that parking wasn’t included and was an extra £35 so we parked elsewhere but on checkout another couple hadn’t noticed so we’re being charged so make sure you make a note of this. This hotel is in an excellent location right into the centre of town but tricky for parking understandably.
We would certainly stay again but just opt for room only

Stayed for 4 nights here in a suite (Room 310). Great central location for the train, town, castle and river.
Friendly welcome on arrival.
Suite however was no great for the price charged. I appreciate this is a strange time we are living in due to the pandemic but the fridge in the room was dirty, there were water marks around the sink and bits of fluff, couple of empty bottle caps on the floor.
My room was serviced by housekeeping the next day but that was it, housekeeping didn't visit again despite me ringing reception and being told it would be. In the end I settled for someone just bringing me some more toilet rolls and I emptied my own bin and left the rubbish in a bag outside in the corridor.
Breakfast brought to my room each morning was quite good but each day there would be a different item missing, ranging from milk for my coffee, condiments, cutlery!
When I arrived just outside the room next door to mine was an empty water bottle and paper cup and a couple of bits of broken glass. Those items were still there when I left, I did put the glass into the cup.
It feels as though the hotel wasn't geared up for reopening and I kind of feel that they should either be 100 percent ready with enough staff to clean etc or wait awhile until you can offer what is expected.

We have stayed at the adjacent hotel (The Castle) in the past so we already knew the location was excellent, but we wanted to see if the MacDonald lived up to the reviews and planned our minibreak in Windsor to try it out. It does! Such warm and friendly staff on arrival and peaceful, smart entrance area with places to sit and relax. We stayed in room 307. With its separate bathroom and vestibule area it had a feel of a suite, with the bonus of a sofa in the main room. As with most hotels at the moment re Covid the minibar was empty which was a shame however fresh milk for tea was on request and was brought up straight away and with a smile. So we were happily having our caffeine fix within 10 minutes of checkin!

Top quality amenities in the room, comfy bed, very quiet, totally comfortable climate control system, Elemis bathroom products etc. And very clean!

Breakfast was included. We waited for about 5 minutes to be seated, a little busy as it was a Sunday we presume. However, once seated we were thoroughly looked after and all the usual cold and hot options included but at a high quality and also a nicely decorated dining room made eating there a pleasure. We didn't opt for it but breakfast in the room was at no additional cost so we'll certainly try that next time too.

Would recommend hence the 5* review. Thanks for a great stay.

On arrival, we wasn’t made aware about booking the nearby car park and no one was answering the telephone at reception so we had to pull over outside, which wasn’t ideal in Windsor with all the parking restrictions and physically go in to ask.
We ended up parking in a multi-storey about a 10 minute walk away that cost £24 for 24 hours. The lifts were out of order so we had to carry a suitcase up four levels of stairs and walk through the high street with our things. Obviously we had to go through this when we left too. Not ideal.

Upon arrival the customer service at reception was lacking. We waited in a queue only to be asked if we needed help from the concierge and then told to wait anyway. We wasn’t asked if we needed help with our luggage or anything else for that matter, just a busy receptionist handing over the key and pointing us to the lift.

The room, a deluxe double, costing £255 was very nice however, and had a partial view of the castle across the road. The windows had two layers so it blocked out the noise of people walking by on the street outside. The separate open shower/wet room from the toilet was a nice feature as was the air conditioning and coffee machine. The mini bar was empty other then two small bottles of complimentary water which was chilled.
We had breakfast included with our room, which was extensive. Lots of choice, both continental and hot breakfast. The pastries were lovely and warm.
I don’t eat meat and they cooked me a veggie breakfast to order which I was pleased about, although the veggie sausages were quite bland.
The location of the hotel was perfect for us as we were visiting the castle the following morning and we were lucky enough to see the changing of the guard before we went in which happened pretty much right outside.

Check out was just as poor customer service wise as it was at check in. We wasn’t asked if we enjoyed our stay or if we had any problems. Just told our account was all settled and sent on our way. Yes our account was settled because we pre paid it, no one did this for us.

Overall the room suited our needs, and the location was great. However, I’m not sure I would want to stay for a longer break, for the cost, I would have expected a little more overall.

My Wife and I decided to book a short stay from 27th to 29th July to escape the monotony of lockdown and have a change of scenery. I really couldn't fault anything. On arrival, the staff were very helpful, and continued to be throughout our stay. They talked us through the new guest routine and explained the process for breakfast for the next two days. Each morning, a wonderful breakfast with hot drink of choice was delivered ro the room. Full english, fruit and fresh croissants all included. The room was immaculate and the housekeeping staff were very flexible when we weren't yet ready for them to clean our room. The hotsl is well set up to allow for social distancing with hand sanitiser, screens, and walking routes etc. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a change of scenery and a relaxing few days! Thanks to all the team at the hotel!!

We stayed here weekend jan29th for a birthday celebration and visited Windsor castle which was fantastic . The room rate at £220 with b/fast a night was expensive so I expected good things ! To keep it short the room was nice and large but dark with one small window looking out at nothing! On the second day we had a cold shower & experienced a very chaotic breakfast experience. Day 1 we listening to disgruntled staff complaining about the management, witnessed dirty tables not cleared properly. Instead of clearing the entire used table staff just removed items that looked used and left anything including cutlery, plates and cups for the next diners. They staff used a spray and cloth to wipe around remaining crockery and cutlery on both mornings. You would not expect this during normal time & certainly not when we are recovering from a pandemic. On the second morning I had a plate that I was holding taken off me by a member of staff as I was about to get my breakfast. The previous day had been self service therefore I assumed that it was the same the next day. The staff member insisted it wasn’t self serve and implied I was lying about the previous day, resulting me having no breakfast and leaving. When we checked out we raised our concerns with the manager who promised to thoroughly investigate and get back to us : as of Friday 4th feb we’ve heard nothing back, despite him saying he would be in touch within a couple of days. We clarified both our phone number & email so contact should not have been an issue.

If you want to have a coffee in the bar it’s £4.50 for a 1/2 filled small cup.

We treated ourselves to two nights in a beautiful suite, the Turquoise Room, for hubby's birthday. What an amazing room it was, absolutely huge and really a treat. Huge bed which was very comfortable, lots of space, a nice sofa, relaxing armchairs, lots of storage for our clothes and a large TV. The tea and coffee making facilities were great too. There was a fridge, but sadly this only had two bottles of beer in it, and no wine! The only thing that let it down really, no mini-bar! After a day out sightseeing it's sometimes nice to just go to the room and have a glass of wine without having to have it delivered for a £5 charge or carry it from the bar yourself! The staff were amazing, very helpful, cheerful and couldn't do enough for us, the breakfast was one of the best we've had and we did eat in Caleys one night and I will review that separately - but it was perfection! All I can say is if you want a perfect getaway then this is the place to go, right opposite the castle too if you're thinking of visiting!

I was highly recommended this hotel by a very close friend who stays here regularly. I was not disappointed. Upon arrival we were greeted by the most friendly and helpful
Concierge. We had booked a double with an extra bed for a five year old. Our room was ready upon arrival and whilst the room was absolutely beautiful and immaculate it was on the small side and felt it would be too much of a squeeze with the extra bed, also my
Five year old doesn’t like showers so asked if it was at all possible to have a room with a bath and a little extra room. This was not an issue, we were informed there would be a larger room available with a bath but it would be a few hours before it was ready, needless to say with lots of exploring to do this was not a problem.

Following some lunch and shopping we arrived back to the hotel and had been allocated the perfect room. We had wonderful views of the castle and a very spacious room. The hotel staff simply cannot do enough for you. We had the best night sleep, followed by an amazing breakfast again wonderful staff not one member of staff let the team at this hotel down. It was a truly wonderful stay for our first time in Windsor. I cannot wait to return to the hotel for another little break. It is possibly one of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed in within the UK. 5 * through and through. Thank you Macdonald Windsor!

Staff on reception & concierge are so welcoming & helpful they are an asset to the hotel, particularly one lady who wasn’t wearing a name badge but went out of her way to help.
Rooms are comfortable however housekeeping team could do with some improving. Complimentary water, tea , coffee was NOT replenished on a daily basis. 3rd night pillowcases had not been replaced during daily room refresh however one phone call to reception and replacements in 10 mins.
Mini fridge was not functional and had warm air and terrible smell. I had taken my own room refreshments so very disappointing as the hotel reception asked housekeeping team 3 times to sort and was still not sorted after 3 night stay so quite disappointing and wish I had asked for change of room with functioning fridge, however the reception team are so fab I didn’t want to appear difficult but was not happy with this.
Catering staff at morning breakfast go out of their way to ensure seated quickly for breakfast and the breakfast is lovely we had no complaints.
Check in was late and we were unable to check in till 3:45
Car parking is expensive for staying guests, £20-25 seems more reasonable compared with area as £35 I felt was a bit much but the convenience and safety made the difference.

We stayed here for one night as a half way point for Visiting family.
The location of the hotel is great and very central within Windsor but thats the reason why my review has been awarded 2 stars As well as the spacious comfortable room.
Do NOT order drinks from the bar here, there are far nicer bars down the road that provide better service and reasonable prices. We had ordered 6 glasses between three people of a 175 ml size of Sauvignon blanc they cost nearly £15 a glass!!!! Disgusting that a hotel can get away with charging these prices- as well as £30 per car per day for car parking. I stayed in a hotel in the centre of London which charged £10 per car per day which is far more reasonable.
Also we waited 40 minutes to settle up our drinks bill. We asked THREE times and were rudely told “give me 2 seconds it’s really busy” every time. They even had the audacity to try and charge us 15% service charge which we asked to be moved and the server walked away shaking her head which was in clear view for us all too see.
The next morning at breakfast the service was just as slow and dreadful, it took 20 minutes for us to get our teas and coffees which were served with no milk and asking for milk meant more waiting. The toast was cold, my breakfast was cold, we asked for more juice which never arrived and we could see other guests around us equally as frustrated.
This hotel is not cheap (especially the wine!!) and I feel for that reason the level of service should match the ridiculous prices they charge as a 4 star hotel. We will be staying at a premier inn next time and will not return here or recommend it to anyone.

Dear veegoodchild Thank you for your review. I am sorry that you felt the service was terrible during your stay with us. It is fair to say that Covid has created a new set of challenges for the hospitality industry, one of them being the extreme peaks and troughs in business levels and how this is managed with a vastly reduced team. We thank the many guests who understand this and show a little more patience than previously. Our bar prices are competitive with the other 4 star hotels in the area. Yes, it is possible to find cheaper bars but not in comparable establishments. We consider £30 for parking overnight in an underground, secure car park a reasonable charge and is certainly not overpriced for the location we're in. I would be very interested to know which hotel in central London only charges £10 a day as I've never come across one! Regards John
