Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Cumberland Lodge is fantastic! My bedroom, in the Hobson Corridor of the main lodge, was clean, spacious and well-appointed. It also had a beautiful view over the grounds. The common areas of the Lodge are lovely and well-kept, offering numerous cozy locations for reading, conversations and just plain thinking. As an academic meeting environment, it is top-notch, with every effort made to ensure things run smoothly. All of the staff I encountered at Cumberland Lodge, from dining room servers to the folks who set up the IT in meeting rooms, from front desk personnel to cleaning staff were unfailingly friendly and professional. Requests were filled very quickly indeed. In addition, the food is truly outstanding. Some weeks after my stay I am still daydreaming of quite a few of the dishes served, including the incredible slow-cooked pork belly, not to mention the many delicious puddings. The breakfast buffet was satisfying enough, with plenty of fresh fruit, yogurts and cold cereals in addition to traditional English breakfast. Somewhat surprisingly, porridge was not part of the standard breakfast offerings, but it was possible to get it on request. If you're considering booking accommodation or meeting space (or both) at Cumberland Lodge, do it.

Dear Tring4, It was lovely to read your review of your recent stay with us and thank you for taking the time to do so. Although we might be biased, I must say the food is delicious (we're extremely fortunate to sample it everyday!) I must say it's tremendous that you feel inspired, as our tagline is 'exchanging views, inspiring minds'. We obviously have the glorious setting of being situated in the middle of Windsor Great Park but we also try to encourage inspiration by the way we treat guests, making them feel relaxed and at ease to concentrate on why they are here. Hope to see you again very soon, Best wishes, Matthew Hancock Cumberland Lodge

I have stayed here before. Cumberland Lodge is in Windsor Great Park. The communal areas are spacious and furnished in a very traditional country house style. The bedrooms are good. The place is mainly used as an excellent conference venue. Lots of car parking space.

Thank you Marc S for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. I am very pleased that you found the Lodge an excellent venue for conferences and particularly in keeping with a country house. We aim to make our guests feel comfortable and relaxed so they can concentrate on the purpose of being here, whether that's a management away day, training session or a retreat. I thought you might be interested to know, if you weren't aware already, that we are also an educational charity that empowers people to tackle the causes and effects of social division. Our charitable work is supported by the individuals and organisations who book our facilities for conferences, meetings and special events. We hope to see you again here very soon, Best wishes, Matthew Hancock Cumberland Lodge

Over the last few years, Cumberland Lodge has hosted one of our showcase events - where senior business leaders attend to hear from inspirational speakers and to gain insights in their chosen profession. The grounds are simply stunning, the service is impeccable and the facilities provide for a fantastic 2 day learning environment. The place is steeped in wonderful history and we’re lucky enough to receive a tour for those delegates who wish to learn more. There are lots of activities to do during the down time, largely focussed on exploring the magnificent grounds. It’s something a I look forward to every year!

Visited Cumberland lodge to find out more about their PhD programme. Staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. I was really surprised by the negative review recently posted so felt compelled to respond. This is NOT an Ibis. It is a place for people to get away from the day to day and think and talk about important things. The reason it does not have a television is you are supposed to talk to other people. The reason it does not have bottled water is the tap water in England is perfectly safe to drink. Many of us are now thinking more about avoiding single use plastic bottles. We are having a spell of unusually warm weather in the UK but it is not common for residential buildings to have air conditioning. If you need to cool off and get fresh air there are some lovely walks in Windsor Great park right outside the door. It is 10 minutes walk from Savile Gardens. Working near Moorgate is a supposedly 'modern' office I was so envious of the staff who have the opportunity to work here. I would trade the air con and the pointless flat screen TV for this any day.

Dear AlinaRC, Thank you very much indeed to feeling compelled for reply to the recent review, which we have also replied to. We do indeed let guests know where possible that we're not a hotel but a residential conference venue and an educational charity. We know that some guests only pass through our doors for short space of time and do not get the opportunity to understand what we do here. We were very pleased to read that you enjoyed your visit and 'envious' of those that are lucky enough to work here. We are indeed very fortunate! See you at the Lodge again in the near future. Best wishes, Matthew Cumberland Lodge

Remote old fashioned lodge located in Great Windsor Park. Rooms are dreadful and lacking in amenity. No bottled water in rooms, no TV and no A/C or cooling facility. Lodge falls well below average European standards in terms of facilities and accommodation standards. Not cheap either!

Dear Maverijk, Thank you very much for taking the time out to post your experience on here. We would like to address your concerns as this is our only one star rating and feel very disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay with us. We do not have a televisions in our bedrooms for two reasons. The first and most importantly we feel, is to encourage conversation and dialogue with their colleagues/fellow participants and one way of doing that is to have few distractions. Cumberland Lodge has been challenging silo thinking and providing an inclusive environment for candid discussions on complex social and ethical issues for over 70 years, which we continue to do today. The second is to make the Lodge feel like home, so that's why there's no phones, TV's, trouser presses and other usual hotel amenities in the bedrooms. The reasons we don't have bottled water is because the tap water here is safe to drink and we wish to reduce the affect we have on the environment, so we are trying to reduce use of plastic/bottles where possible. We do have glass bottles of water to purchase at the bar if required or our staff are happy to provide jugs of tap water free of charge. With the age of this 17th century building, it just isn't feasible to put air conditioning into every bedroom. We do have fans available if needed, please do come and ask the Duty Managers at the front desk if there isn't one in your bedroom already. Thank you though for pointing these concern out to us, we shall look into answering these in our bedroom packs to explain to future guests. We look forward to welcoming you back and hopefully you'll have a different experience next time. Best wishes, Matthew Hancock Cumberland Lodge

The price has gone up considerably over the last few years but the surroundings and food remain superb. Rooms in the main house reflect the cost and are outstanding but rooms in the Mews are feeling tired and the en suites are sometimes very poor

Thank you Jbrazier for your review of Cumberland Lodge and pleased that you found our surroundings and food of a very high standard. I am disappointed to read that you thought the Mews bedrooms and bathrooms were sometimes poor. The vast majority of the bathrooms in Mews have recently gone through a refurbishment programme, part of which, was to install showers in every bathroom. Likewise, the bedrooms are going through a similar phase and it could perhaps be one of the few remaining that you might have stayed in. Please do make us aware when you next visit and we can show you the latest developments and refurbishments. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Lodge very soon. Best wishes, Matthew Hancock Cumberland Lodge

Dear Kiki P, Thank you very much for your feedback and extremely happy you found the Lodge relaxing and somewhere to have a break. We do try and keep the feel of a home rather than a hotel exactly for that reason so people feel that they can unwind, relax and converse whoever they are here with. I'm pleased you managed to take advantage of the beautiful surrounds and stretch the legs, a perfect place to exercise! Best wishes, Matthew Hancock Cumberland Lodge
