We were lucky enough to manage to book one night at the weekend as a room was released (it’s usually a two night booking policy at weekends). It is a lovely house and most deceiving as it is much bigger than it looks from the outside. The interior is gorgeous, lots of nooks and crannies and roaring open fires make it cosy and romantic. Our room was a courtyard suite which was beautiful with a real cottagey feel. It was lovely having a separate lounge area and the bed was soo comfortable and the bath lovely and deep.
We ate at the potting shed - we went for the fillet steak which was cooked to absolute perfection - I highly recommend, even though it was quite expensive.
Breakfast was lovely with lots of choice.
Mojitos were gorgeous and made with love.

As I like to give full honest reviews... If I was being overly critical I would add the following:

We were not offered a complimentary glass of bubbles upon arrival as it hasn’t been set out when we arrived. The spa was lovely, small and intimate but there was always a high demand for loungers as there were only a handful... my robe was removed by a member of staff whilst I was in the sauna which had my mobile and other personal possessions in my pocket even though it was clear we were using the lounger and had only popped in for a sauna for a couple of minutes. The outdoor jacuzzi was broken and the bubbles were not working much to everyone’s dismay and the indoor pool was quite cold to the point a couple we met couldn’t take their 9 month old baby swimming in it.
The garden room snack bar is a complete rip off £22 for two toasted sandwiches and a couple of crisps.

Overall it was a lovely relaxing stay in a stunning location but for a check-out bill of £569 for one night’s dinner, bed and breakfast I found it overly expensive from a value perspective.

Dear Lisa_Rich35, Thank you for your recent feedback and I am so pleased you seemed to enjoy your stay with us. I really appreciate your constructive comments and I am so sorry there were certain elements of your stay that were disappointing. I have no idea why a member of staff would have removed your robe and I can only apologise for them being so overzealous. I had not heard that the Hydro pool was not working so if that was the case again I am sorry. The indoor pool is kept at a constant temperature and we certainly had had no comments about it being cold. Once again thank you for your generally positive review. Best regards, Stephen General Manager

We stayed here for an overnight stay, and had a truly wonderful stay.
As this was a surprise for my husband, I went to visit the Dormy House and they very kindly showed me the different variety of rooms they had (ones which were vacant) and I found the perfect room for our stay and booked it.

All the Dormy House Team were so helpful prior to and during our stay.

We were informed that we could use the Steam rooms and swimming pool upon our arrival prior to check-in, so we utilised these facilities.

We had a gift voucher from family for an evening meal in their beautiful restaurant, whom catered perfectly for me as a vegetarian. The Restaurant Team were professional and courtious ensuring that everything was ok with our meal. We did not feel rushed, but relaxed for a wonderful evening together.

After the meal we had a drink in the beautiful lounge area where there was a beautiful fire to keep us warm. The whole Hotel was beautifully decorated from Recpetion to the Spa, and kept spotlessly clean.

There was even an i-pad in the room if we needed anything at all, we ordered our room service breakfast which was very efficient and delicately organised on decorated trays, and a very warming morning coffee. We enjoy quite a milky coffee, and ran out of milk, however a couple of taps on the i-pad, and within minutes a lovely gentleman bought extra milk to the room.

Overall a lovely Hotel with wonderful service from all the Team. We look forward to staying with you again in the future.

Thank you to all the Dormy House Team.

I went on my own for a two-night spa experience. The room was amazing with an iPad room order service, beautiful and plush linen and spotlessly clean. To give you an idea of the service, I pressed a button on the iPad for fresh milk and it was delivered less than a minute later!

The food was fresh, plentiful and reasonably priced and I was made to feel welcome. I’m not from a privileged background and was surprised to hear the next table talk about what their servants were doing, but felt at ease eating alone.

I was lucky to have the spa to myself and I enjoyed it for two hours before anyone joined me. The pool is tranquil and the shower experiences in full working order which you can’t say for all retreat centres. The only confusing thing was the changing rooms - a picture on the door is supposed to be a moustache but I missed it and was caught mid-change by a man. I swapped rooms and was caught again by a man, but this time he was in the wrong room. I then sat near him at dinner and I don’t know who was more embarrassed!

We stayed for 2 nights in the Loft, a lovely room in the roof with large pitched windows on 3 sides which made it a great retreat to relax in. The room had a separate lounge area with its own TV and a roll top Bath with a view over the Spa. Given the roof location there are some slightly compromised head heights (I’m 6’6) when moving about the room but you soon get used to it.

The hotel was well presented and on checkout guests got a bag with 2 waters and a cookie to say goodbye. The gym and pool were pre bookable 1 h slots at present and there was ok availability at short notice and the staff in the spa were helpful and friendly.

Here’s the big downside which cost 2 stars, given the price we felt the service was just not up to scratch. Yes hotels are working through social distancing but a few things need attention particularly in the restaurant. We ate in the restaurant for 2 nights and had 2 breakfasts- the staff seemed poorly trained, uncaring, one lady ‘huffing and puffing’ around to take breakfast orders, and all in all very slow (we had to ask a few times to get our order) despite the reduced capacity. That didn’t match the expectations of a quality and expensive hotel unfortunately. Real shame as the food was good, but service is something that’s addressable by management although I’ve re read some reviews and it seems we have not been alone in this observation - the rest of the hotel and comfort levels were very good.

Maybe we felt it more as we’d been in another hotel immediately prior, however it was half the cost per night and you were really made to feel at home I know which i’d rather return to which is disappointing as we’d had high hopes for Dormy.

Dear Y2CLL, We appreciate your recent review and thank you for the feedback. I am so sorry the service wasn't good enough for you, I know all the Restaurant team will be upset with your comments. The team are indeed well trained and do care, and many of the team have been at Dormy House for quite a number of years. As I have stated on some other reviews the team have been adjusting to how we serve based on the requirements of a number of different procedures such as no more breakfast buffets which traditionally have always sped up service. Needless to say we will and have taken on board your comments and we will always review how we can improve on service and general interaction with our guests. I am pleased you seemed to enjoy the rest of your stay. Best regards, Stephen Stephen Browning General Manager

I am checking out today at 11am after a lovely stay with my mom. This will be our fourth stay here and although we have seen some changes here we keep coming back because we always have such a wonderful stay. The check in is smooth on arrival and we were greeted with a glass of fizz which is a nice touch. We always arrive earlier than room check in and make use of the amazing spa facilities, yes some people on their reviews make note of the lack of beds and at the weekend I can imagine it is more of an issue but in the week there has always been room and people are usually curtoeus and do not keep beds unnecessarily. The outside hot tub and tranquil pool are just what we needed in the current time with what is happening all over the world. All of the staff have been very attentive and welcoming and the hygiene standards across the board have been fantastic with hand sanitizer and signage everywhere. We usually see family when we are here for dinner but this time we ate the in the potting shed and both had the fish and chips which was to die for. We stayed in a cosy intimate room, room 8 with a lovely bathroom and were greeted with a card and a complimentary bottle of champagne as I was staying for my birthday, again a lovely touch. All in all we have had a great relaxing stay and we will certainly be back again.

We booked here for a getaway with friends.

Due to the current pandemic we made regular checks to ensure the facilities were fully open, whats the point otherwise?

Their website said Open, not a single mention of anything being closed or restricted.

Well how shocked were we when we were told the only thing open was the pool and the Hydrospa (well a tub with a few weak jets wafting water about)

There were no treatments available for the duration of our stay and the pool and hydrospa required booking a time slot.

Now we understand the need for this but at not time did anyone inform us of the restrictions, only 4 people in the pool at a time and 2 in the hydrospa but not a single sign to advise of this anywhere.

We booked our slot and were shown to the pool at our allotted time, we were first in the pool, that's all 4 of us in our party to very quickly be joined by more guests.

The strange thing was that we were told to vacate the pool whilst the other guests, 2 of which were doing olympic lengths of the pool were left alone, How did you work this out Management team?

None of the hot rooms were open, no Sauna or Steam Room but again no one advised this.

Not a single email sent to advise they were not fully open and after calling 3 times before arrival and leaving 3 messages as there was no one to answer the phones we get a call back but again no one advised of the restrictions and the website continued to advertise they were fully open.

We drove up from London and our guests came from Eindhoven for this treat, what a waste of a couple of days not to mention the expense of the fuel and the rather steep cost of a very average room, noisy as well.

Do NOT take room 38 or any others on that corridor as they are right by the kitchen delivery area, not good for one of their so called better rooms as the noise is rather disturbing

Dear GJKSS, Thank you for your feedback, and it is a shame you wrote this review despite us having spoken to you personally and by phone explaining the current restrictions in the Spa as you left. The information sent to you was quite clear and did indicate what was available on your confirmation. There is a booking system for Pool, Gym and Hydro pool access in order to keep people safe at all times. The number of people in the pool is actually 4 swimming at any one time and 10 overall in the Pool and Hydro pool areas. We obviously want to be fair to all guests to ensure they all get time in the Spa areas. The Sauna and Steam rooms are not available due to government restrictions which became clear at very short notice. Our website is also quite clear as to what our current position is and does indicate quite clearly that we are working with a limited availability of types of treatments, again due to the government restrictions. All guests are recommended to book well in advance of arrival to ensure you are not let down, I am very sorry if you were and can only apologise if you struggled to get hold of us. Thank you for your comments about room 38 and I am sorry if you were disturbed, however the room is not near the kitchen delivery entrance? Once again thank you for your feedback and I am so sorry if we let you down. Best regards, Stephen Stephen Browning General Manager

We went for a couple of days stay with our King Charles Cavie Charlie. We had a court yard suite which was fabulous. We couldn’t fault the Hotel, Accomodation, food, spa or staff. They were so attentive, especially a waiter called George in the potting shed restaurant where you can take the dog when you are having dinner. He looked after us so well he arranged the same table each night and was good to Charlie made it a great dining experience for us.

In terms of Covid safety measures they have it in the bag if you are at all worried about staying at a hotel don’t be. The hotel was very clean, sanitising station everywhere, seating area in lounge and restaurants well spaced out, all staff members wearing masks and visors, but still not a clinical experience. When we arrived at our suite the key is in the room in a sealed bag with sanitizer. The waiters when they make drinks put on new gloves wipe down everything each time.

Great experience overall and would highly recommend especially if you are bringing your furry friend.

We stayed at Dormy for a last minute couple of nights away after a challenging year and fell in love with the hotel giving us the relaxation we had hoped for.

From the laid back farmhouse feel to the friendly staff, everything felt like the big warm hug we needed before Christmas.

The location is at the top of the estate nestled amongst fields about a 30 minutes walk down a hilly field to Broadway which is totally worth a visit although I can understand people not wanting to leave the house!

Our room was really well furnished with a contemporary feel, wooden beams the comfiest bed that we couldn't wait to divebomb! The bathroom was fantastic to with under floor heating and luxury additions. There was a few wonky fixtures and fittings which I don't think were by design but added to the farmhouse charm for us!

When we were there it snowed which seemed to make it even more magical and luckily the hotel provided us with boots which was a great touch. We were in one of the outbuildings but it wasn't an issue just a few seconds walk into the main hotel stomping through the snow.

The main hotel itself is so well laid out with comfy places to sit and drink rather than having one central bar which we loved and even though the hotel was full we could always grab a sofa. The smell everywhere is incredible it really adds to the atmosphere!

The staff are also a credit to Dormy with everyone so genuine and friendly, we especially loved the breakfast service but couldn't really fault the enthusiasm all around despite the challenging times.

The Spa was good although some of the facilities were in need of maintenance which others have pointed out. This doesn't detract from the look and feel though and the booking system does mean that it doesn't feel crowded although I know it's not to everyone's taste. We also had a great treatment and came out feeling totally relaxed.

We are in both restaurants and would say the food is good rather than great. The tasting menu was nice enough without blowing us away and I think the waiting staff were in training which was understandable. The sommelier who was great managed his best to hold it all together with some great pairing choices.

The other hotel restaurant was again good without being wowed and did manage the country pub feeling but i didn't think the quality of food quite matched the price (Russell's and Broadbean in Broadway offered better dining in our opinion and well worth the walk down the hill).

Breakfast however was by far the best meal and exceptional genuinely one of the best we had had with friendly staff and amazing food.

Overall we had one of the best most relaxing hotel stays we have enjoyed and just loved this warm hug of a hotel. Well done all at Dormy!

Dear Mike, Thank you for taking the time to send in such a constructive review and really appreciate your feedback. I am so sorry the food didn't wow you which is a real shame, stick by us as we are changing the menu concept in January when we reopen so hopefully it will be more to your liking. The Spa has had a busy time and we know that one or two things need addressing which is going to happen while we close next month, but thank you for commenting. Once again thank you and I do hope we get to see you again. Happy New Year! Kind regards, Stephen

I have reviewed Dormy House before but felt compelled to write another review after treating my family to the Dormy at Christmas experience this year.
From start to finish, our entire Christmas stay was phenomenal.
The rooms (we stayed in "Top Notch" Room 19 near the front of the house) are all decorated to a high standard and are very clean. Although we didn't spend much time in the room it was very comforable and the toiletries are always lovely.
The food during our stay far exceeded expectation! Upon arrival on Christmas eve we were treated to afternoon tea, that evening a delightful 3 course dinner in the back garden. On Christmas day a light breakfast followed by a 5 course Christmas lunch with Chamapgne and a buffet in the evening for those with any room left! On Boxing day there was a brunch followed by a 5 course tasting dinner with accompanying wines. On departure (27th) we were treated to breakfast and a goody bag to take on our way. The hotel also prepared a few separate meals for our 18 month son which was no issue for them.
On Boxing Day the hotel had organised a load of events including cooking demos, cheese and wine tasting and spa demos. It was a great idea and meant there was always something going on to do and chat to the other guests.
For me, the extra touches with Christmas presents and in particular, the personalised dressing gown given to my son was beyond all expectation.
How we will not go back to Dormy for Christmas every year I don't know! It was definitely a special treat and one I hope I get to experience again!

Just came back from a stay here, this is a lovely place in a great location, the only problem is the service.
We stayed in a comfy room which was much much bigger than expected, we were very surprised by this and it was lovely.
The spa facilities are great, very nice and clean, they are currently only allowing 10 people at a time in the spa area which was great, because it felt like we had it for ourselves. We also had a back massage which was probably the best massage I have ever received.
The only problem was dinner service. We had a booking at 20.30, at 20.00 we decided to come to the bar area and have a drink until it was the time for us to have dinner. When we came to the lounge area we told our intentions to one of the hostesses and she said that we could seat on our table and have dinner earlier if we wanted, we said yes because we were rather hungry. Once seated we were ignored for quite a while, finally managed to order some drinks and went back to be ignored. After quite a while, the person who seemed to be the restaurant manager finally came and told us that there was a bit of a delay in the kitchen and offered some complimentary nibbles. This was lovely and I understand that we sat earlier and we were more than happy to wait, that was what we were going to do anyway, however, I just wish we would not have been seated earlier on the promise on an early dinner and also were ignored the whole time. After being served our food we carried on being ignored through the whole night by the service.
Food was lovely, very good quality high end pub style food, just let down by a very bad service.
