#6 of 6 hotels in Broadway
Travellers' Choice
Imagine a hotel where roaring log-burning open fireplaces hint at its roots dating from the 1300's, with a vaulted ceiling and original wood panelling built in the seventeenth century. Visit a hotel that has been coloured by the characters of history. At The Lygon Arms, with its 86 rooms you can stay in the suite that King Charles I once stayed in the night before the Battles of Worcester in 1651. See the carvings of John Travis' name on the arch of the front door, etched into the hotel's history in 1620. An historic hotel in the heart of Broadway with a typically Cotswolds history. Dine in Bar & Grill or the Wine Bar, or enjoy a coffee or a Cotswold Gin and Tonic in one of our many lounges. A spa , swimming pool and The Lygon Gardens await you but most importantly the team look forward to welcoming you. .

I’ve stayed here a few times but this was the first visit with a child. I must admit that I was a little bit worried as to whether the Lygon would be child friendly. As always, from the moment we arrived we could not have wished for anything better. The staff welcomed us and took our luggage to the room and at reception they made an extra effort to welcome my 7 year old son. The room that gave us was just beautiful over looking the high street of Broadway. We are out at a local pub and returned to the Lygon for a drink or two before bed. The bar staff were attentive and even though we hadn’t been there for a few years it was like they remembered us and knew exactly what we wanted. Our son was so happy with the welcome he’d received he decided he wanted to draw the staff a picture and put it outside our room. By the morning the picture had gone and been replaced by a letter from the reception staff to my son thanking him for the picture and also giving him a small box of chocolates. What a lovely gesture. Breakfast was amazing as always and we were sad to be leaving, but we have already booked a return visit to the Charles I Suite in April 2021. Of all the hotels I’ve stayed in all over the world, The Lygon is the one I’d want to return to over and over again.

Hotel's Favourite
What a wonderful weekend, we arrived at The Lygon Arms on Thursday afternoon till Sunday, Our Courtyard Suite was to perfection the hospitality and assistance from all staff was fantastic. We had a walk around Broadway which is such a lovely place. Thursday Evening we ate at Lygon Bar & Grill, the food was amazing and I can highly recommend for starter the Pork, sage & chestnut sausage roll for main the Beef Wellington to share, simply the best and the Iced honeycomb parfait for dessert Restaurant Manger was very friendly along with all the waiting staff, everybody is so friendly and helpful and great to have drinks in the bar after dinner. We were recommended to go to Daylesford Organic Farm for lunch on the Friday, such a beautiful place and a great lunch and amazing farm shop with simply the best cheeses and also the Bamford Barn Shop is definitely worth a visit whilst your at Daylesford. Friday evening we had a Drinks and then a Private Dinner in The Cromwell Room was where Oliver Cromwell slept the night before the Battle of Worcester, such a treat, again food Service and Hosting was again all to perfection and we had a wonderful evening hosted by the fantastic Erika Steward, Director of Sales at The Lygon Arms and our waiter was so professional, friendly and efficient. Saturday morning we went to Jackdaws Castle and had a fantastic tour with Jonjo and Jacqui O' Neill such a great place and was wonderful to see all the horses. We then headed to Cheltenham to the races and had some wonderful hospitality from Christine McKenzie at The Jockey Club, after the races we went back to Broadway and had a wonderful meal at Broadway Indian Restaurant and then drinks back at the Lygon Bar. Sunday morning we had a wonderful breakfast and headed back home. It was such and enjoyable weekend and so many thanks to everyone at The Lygon who looked after us. We will definitely be back again very soon and highly recommend visiting.

We stayed in this hotel in August. Although the weekend price was more expensive, we were so looking forward to a nice weekend break locally after the first lockdown. The hotel was nice and clean. But the waiting time for check-in was too long, around 50mins. So did the breakfast, it took us an hour to get our food and then one of them was a wrong order. Too many staff were walking and moving around the restaurant but really not attentive at that time. We understand with the shortage of certain staff or because they were on furlough, we expected slow service, but there could be a better check-in system in place or to introduce a breakfast booking like other hotels we stayed around that time. Having said that, the situation could have changed since our last visit.

Visited for a little romantic getaway and we had a really lovely time in a beautifully historic building. Obviously Covid restrictions do taint the experience slightly but this can't be helped and I think overall the hotel have adapted well and tried their best to ensure the visitor experience is still enjoyable. Food both at dinner and breakfast was absolutely fantastic, every course was delicious as were the cocktails. There are quite a few mentions of too many dogs in the restaurant but we didn't encounter any, just a couple in the lounge areas so not an issue for us at all. The only area I felt needed improvement would be the room, we had a courtyard room which was large but in desperate need of a renovation. It was quite dated and smelt a little musty and damp. For the price paid you would expect better so perhaps a little bit of investment in this area would be beneficial. Overall a fabulous stay in a fabulous hotel, Broadway is also a stunning village.

Very good Covid precautions well observed by all staff With a history dating back over 700 years you would expect this place to be quirky and interesting and it is. Strange to think that it was around at the time of the Great Plague and still here with our latest pandemic. It takes a while to find your way around and some of the stairs and corridors are at odd angles that plays with your equilibrium. That said everything was clean, well maintained and worked which is not always the case, there were plenty of power sockets and the bedroom was well heated. WiFi easy to access and good download speeds. The dining room is wonderful especially now with Christmas decorations and a roaring fire. The food was well presented, flavoursome and reasonable portions. Limited wine list but something to suit most tastes. Service at dinner was very good. Good range of options at breakfast but they lost one point by clearing plates away when one of us was still eating. Not good! the car park takes a bit of finding but you can pull into the front of the hotel and get directions, I think they also valet park if asked. As a special treat this place is well worth considering, it is expensive and the bed was small, (we were in the main building so rooms a bit smaller), but overall experience is first class.
