The Lygon is something unique! You'll be astounded from the moment you arrive by it's character and TARDIS like transition into a grand and beautiful hotel behind it's quaint exterior on Broadway high Street. The hotel is fabulously equipped with all of the facilities you would expect to find from pool, gym and just about a fireplace in every social area making it a very cosy atmosphere during the winter. The staff were fantastic and we were extremely well taken care of, a personal thank you to Graeme and Paul for being such fabulous hosts 😊 10/10 experience, and I eagerly look forward to next time!

Hotel's Favourite
I had read quite a few reviews before taking the plunge and booking a 3 night break at the Lygon Arms for me and my friend. I nearly booked a different hotel as some of the reviews that we had read were quite negative however, we were limited with the dates we could get away so we decided to go and try for ourselves. Parking was easy, we used the car park at the back of the hotel and walked through the courtyard to the reception. Directions for the car park were emailed to me after I had booked. Remember to put your number plate details into the tablet in the hotel reception. The check in process was straight forward and we were shown to our rooms by Seth who did a great job of effortlessly carrying our overpacked and rather heavy suitcases! We did point out a few problems with the room that we were shown, this was quickly escalated to the duty manager (Noel) who visited us and agreed that we could change rooms. There was a snag that the hotel was nearly at capacity however Noel did his best for us and moved us to a temporary room for the night until another became available the following day. The room that we were moved to was very quirky but we appreciated the effort made to move us and made the most of the experience. We ate at the Grill and to be honest were not expecting much due to several reviews that we had read however, we had the most delicious meals. I had the prawn cocktail followed by the Halibut and my friend had the Burrata and then the lamb as a main course. Others have mentioned James Martin in previous reviews as his name is attached to the Grill but we think that the chef and kitchen staff need a shout out for sending out such great food. The staff in the restaurant were attentive without being intrusive, not that we would mind that kind of thing but I understand that some people would. Rebeca looked after us very well. We had another chat with Noel and mentioned a few items that we felt were missing from our temporary room and on return to our room were very pleasantly surprised to find these items waiting for us. Breakfast was as you would expect. Plenty of choice. In our experience the cooked breakfasts were plentiful and again, delicious. The French toast was just scrummy. not at all stodgy but very light with a sprinkling of honeycomb. My friend liked that there was an option of having mugs instead of tea/coffee cups. We were shown to our new room which overlooked the courtyard and were delighted with it. We didn't book any treatments in the spa so can't comment on that. We pretended to use the gym for all of 5 minutes before heading to the pool, jacuzzi, steam and sauna rooms. These areas were very clean as were the changing rooms. The hotel itself is very beautiful, full of character and warm/inviting. It is genuinely dog friendly, so much so that I felt quite guilty for not bringing my dog with us on this occasion. The hotel has some darker areas and wonky floors as you would expect but this just adds to it's charm. There are also stone flooring in some areas but plenty of rugs/ carpets so walking in heels shouldn't be too much of a problem. I managed although I had to hold on to my friends arm once outside the hotel as the pavements aren't too heel friendly. We were given recommendations on other places for dinner and tried the Indian restaurant near the green, the food there was also delicious. I would suggest booking a table in advance as they seem to be very popular. We ended up back in the Grill on our last night where we both ordered the prawn cocktail again and some fries as we weren't too hungry. My friend doesn't often eat fish/prawns but she had tried my starter on the first night and agreed that it was delicious which coming from her is praise indeed! All in all our experience was very positive one despite our initial disappointment and this was thanks to the kindness and efficiency of the staff. We were made to feel welcome and were not made to feel at all daft even when Noel attended our new room to help with a rather silly scenario for which I thank him! We tend not to go back to the same hotel as there are so many other places to visit however, we both agreed that we would stay at this hotel again.

I stayed at the Lygon Arms with a friend in two adjoining High Street Superior rooms. The rooms adjoined the main building but had exterior access only, off of High Street. The wonderful groundskeeper, Marcus, explained to us that the buildings date from different eras but the main building and the wing where we were located were the original, and they have preserved the quirky character of those rooms as much as possible. One room had a gorgeous 4-poster bed, and the other had a doorframe with markings carved in 1640. Both had beautiful antique furnishings and were equipped with modern amenities (mini-fridge, safe, heated towel bar, hairdryer), robes, and nice local line of products, Noble Isle. The public spaces throughout the hotel are gorgeous. There are a ton of nooks and crannies with comfy furniture to lounge in, each with its own character. We had fun exploring the main building - including a tour of the Oliver Cromwell room, and the “haunted” hallway with the two cribs. The history of this hotel is fascinating. The grounds behind the hotel are also beautiful, with 3 lawn/garden spaces. We had excellent treatments at the Lygon Arms spa (massage, manicure). The spa interior is a bit dated, but well maintained and the estheticians are fantastic. There is a decent-sized indoor swimming pool in an atrium, and a gym/fitness area in the spa building. As long as you are not expecting luxury you won’t be disappointed. The front desk staff are also wonderful, and were very helpful with taxi and spa reservations, and tips for the local area. We arrived early and stored our bags with the front desk, and received a text when our room was ready. We were pleased to learn our bags had already been moved into our rooms.

I had a really great experience at the Lygon Arms spa thanks wholly to Andriana. She was very accommodating, empathetic and professional- she took what was a challenging situation (no fault of her own) and turned it around for good. I really enjoyed the experience and left feeling special (it was my birthday). Thank you for making it a win!! Highly recommend :)

Absolutely fantastic! Needs a visit The whole location and buildings is stunning. Careful thought and consideration on everything is taken. Quaint village and the hotel fits perfectly. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff rock! A special thank you to Petra who served us perfectly last night for dinner. She was there when you needed and blended when not. I also like the way she handled another table that clocked their fingers! Never understand stupid people that are not just rude but give the public a poor reputation - the clickers are a thankful minority!!! James and co Diolch a nadolig llawen

The hotel itself is picture postcard as is the village. The staff are well drilled and attentive and the main areas of the hotel are nice and comfortable. We stayed in the old part of the hotel in room 3 which was frankly a awful experience with little to no noise insulation from other rooms or the adjoining spaces. When the loud drone of the kitchen extractor finally ended and the noise from the hotel quietened to a point we thought we might actually sleep the room up stairs began having sex and while slightly comical it was as loud as if it was in the same room, once all this was finally over and sleep was possible the kitchen extractor started again at 5:30 am meaning the hotel had failed to deliver on it primary function and I ended up feeling we would have had a better nights sleep kipping in the car, which I was very close to doing! There are new rooms that are probably less noisy, and it is in a great location, so our advise is make sure your not in the old bit and you might get some sleep.

We stayed 2 nights a week ago in this very nice hotel in the charming little village of Broadway in the Cotswolds (about 2 hours drive from London, one hour from Oxford). The hotel was quite busy, supposedly it had offered pre Christmas deals to many of the guests, but we did not benefit from one such deal and paid a hefty £275 a night bed and breakfast. With one dinner this came to a total of close to £700! The room was spacious in the new annex to the main old hotel. Swimming pool, hot bath, sauna and steam room were available which was very good and appreciated after long walks in the countryside. The restaurant under chef James Martin was set in a wonderful and large room of the original hotel, but the food was disappointing to say the least: to come to the Cotswolds and have an offering of bavette-frites and moules-frites plus some grilled meat for example is not what was expected of a supposedly renowned chef, but rather what to see on the menu of something like the London chain of restaurants Cote Brasserie. At much lower price levels obviously. Naturally the name of the restaurant is The Grill, but this does not preclude having some interesting dishes, game maybe which is in season? All in all a nice hotel with friendly staff, but lack of imagination in the cuisine and overpriced for an off-season two-night stay of Sunday and Monday.

We booked this stay with the hotel directly for my birthday & it was such a disappointing experience. We were told by receptionist on checking in that our £50 resort credit would come off the one nights deposit we had to pay in advance (£280) So decided not to spend at the hotel but on checking out this was denied by the manager. Instead he plied me with James Martin cookbooks 🙄to quieten us down in a busy reception area! We also had to endure banging as handrail was being fixed in the spa/pool area & our room was musty & miserable with a shower over the bath which sprayed all over the place Plenty of other lovely hotels to stay in Cotswolds area so don’t bother here

Check in was fine and car parked. The room was bigger than we thought it would but it was strange to walk through the restaurant to either go to or leave our room but not a lot the hotel can change regarding this. We found somewhere to sit for a drink but had to find someone to serve us. Visited the tavern later which had a great vibe and chatted to the staff. Breakfast on the first morning was good plenty of choice but the star both mornings was Sofia (hope I have spelt her name right?) she took time to talk about what we had planned for the day and the next morning she asked us how it had gone…she is credit to the hotel. We booked for the evening meal on our second night and although my Wife asked when booking a table a few weeks before if we could have the festive menu which she was told yes but unfortunately on the night we couldn’t as it had not started yet! the food was ok but for the price nothing outstanding! Word of warning that when you sit in the different areas and have drinks and/or food brought to you there is a service charge of 12.5% also make sure you sign for drinks etc if you are putting them on your room bill as some nice person put food and drinks on our room for nearly £100 fortunately we spotted this and raised it before checking out and was sorted by the receptionist with no problem. Overall would we stay again probably not as it’s not worth the money I’m afraid, however the staff are all very pleasant and are more than happy to help.
