Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We left the Cotswolds driving west for the day. When we got to Aberystwyth we were going to turn around home again. By chance we saw what the view could be from the windows of this lovely little "guest room". John was on hand to invite us in and show us about. He won us over instantly and we decided to stay for the night. We took the double suite and everything was perfect. The fit and finish from the windows to the bed to the glorious bathroom. We sat and watched the sunset over Cardigan Bay for four hours in very comfortable chairs and when we woke there was breakfast ready for us laid out at a table in the dining with stunning views again. John has worked hard on his getaway and he should be very proud of not only his building but of the way he interacts with guests. I think every aspect of his thinking goes into the comfort of them. We got home wishing to turn around again. Thank you, John, for an much needed recharge. We will be back soon. Bruce and Liz

My sister and I stayed at this guest house two nights, at the beginning of a 5 day tour of Wales. The first thing that impressed us, the view to the beach across the way, then the entrance, a beautiful wooded front door, and from there it continued…A warm welcome by the proprietor,John, well appointed clean comfortable accommodations, a wonderful full English breakfast, informative and interesting conversation with John about the area, easy walking distance to pubs and restaurants . We would stay there again, and are recommending this lovely Guest House to anyone we know visiting Wales.

John, our host at Yr Hafod, provided excellent service and kept us laughing with his humor! Excellent location on the promenade, which runs right above the beach! Rooms were comfortable and clean also. You can select a room with an ocean view with large windows.

Another fantastic stay at Yr Hafod. Welcoming, spotlessly clean, great breakfast, brilliant location - everything you could hope for in a Bed and Breakfast. Would not hesitate to recommend Yr Hafod to anyone planning a visit to Aberystwyth.

Stayed at this lovely B&B as part of a tour. John was a wonderful host with good conversation and good information. Located across the road from the beach and within walking distance of restaurants & pubs. Our room was very clean, spacious and quiet. Beds were comfy and the breakfast was generous and delicious. Would definitely recommend this guest house.

My husband and I came to Aberystwyth to do ancestry research. In a guide book I had found Yr Hafod Guest House, but really had no idea what to expect. We could not use our phones to direct us to the Guest House so we stopped at a gas station to ask for directions. First the manager said he knew the place and went to print google directions, then a patron began to tell us directions, then a second patron said, "I'm going downtown, just follow me I'll take you there." What kindness and generosity. These people prepared us for the gracious, kind, funny, professional, and efficient host we would have at Yr Hafod, John. With his own hands he has designed the 5 ensuite bedrooms that overlook the Cardigan Bay and this day's crashing seas and wild winds. Our room was perfect. The bed just the right feel for a great nights sleep, the detail wood work and plaster in the room was so exquisite. The bathroom was well situated. We had coffee, tea and biscuits for an early morning or late evening snack. Best of all in a series of bests were the two chairs that swiveled to look out our dormer window to the sea and the wonderful life that passed beneath our window each day into the night. Aberystwyth is a lovely town, filled with all sorts of things to do. If you want a fun, challenging, interactive vacation with great food, perfect hikes or perhaps a look into your family's distant past at the National Library of Wales, you will love visiting Aberystwyth. I hate to leave, especially our lively morning chats with John over his "proper Welsh breakfast." Thank you John for one of best vacations ever.

We booked the apartment for 3 nights to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary. The apartment was absolutely lovely. Plenty of room in the apartment. Comfy chairs in the bay window to sit and take in the view ( the most amazing view at that ) A walk in shower/wet room ( always a bonus as I am an amputee) with complimentary shower gel and hair conditioner and a hair dryer. Cleanliness and decor is excellant throughout the guesthouse, beds really comfy. Complimentary tea/coffee/chocolate and mint chocolates as well. John was the perfect host, very amiable, great sense of humour and serves the most delicious full welsh breakfasts, including cereal, toast etc, really sets you up for the day. Whether you just want to sit and watch out for the dolphins or take a lovely stroll round the bay, Yr Hafod is the best guesthouse to book. Supurb is the word to describe Yr Hafod

I've just returned from a three night stay at Yr Hafod and can totally recommend it to anyone. The location is amazing with a sea view from my room and the breakfast table. My room (a single) was lovely and complete with everything you could need and also extremely clean. John, the host, was very friendly and helpful with a wonderfully wicked Welsh sense of humour (once you see the wifi password you'll know what I mean :)) Breakfast was really nice and even the scaled down version was too much for me to finish! John is a perfectionist and you'll be hard pushed to find a B&B with such attention to detail, especially for this price. I'm looking forward to returning again at the end of the year. Thanks for everything John!

We’ve just got back from a nights stay at Yr Hafod, it’s perfectly placed on the sea front with street parking outside; next to the castle and with shops / bars just round the corner. We stayed in the second floor, the sea view was amazing. Breakfast was great and the welcome was more than great, will definitely stay again

Thank you John, we had a really enjoyable and relaxing 3 night stay with you in Aber. The location of the Guest House is ideal for exploring the town. Overlooking South Beach, next door to the castle, close to the high street and just around the corner from the train station. Breakfast is fab, fresh and tasty, with as much toast as you can eat! John is a lovely man and a great host. He has thought of everything you'll need in your room, for example plenty of storage, wooden hangers, a tea towel and plenty of tea/ coffee. The bathroom has been renovated to a very high standard. Our twin room had a huge walk in shower. Parking is available outside, not a problem to find a space after around 6'ish. There is a reasonably priced pay and display within 2 minutes walking distance anyway. The WiFi is reliable, fast and free. Thanks again for a brill stay. I was a student in Aber back in the early 90s, and whilst much has changed since then, Aber is still a beautiful town to visit. David & Alison
