Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The room was clean and comfortable, the shower was great. The wifi worked at a decent speed, although it did drop out if not used for a while and didn’t reconnect automatically, which was a bit of a pain as I had to keep retyping my email address. I was upgraded to a seaview room and enjoyed hearing the waves crashing on the beach, so was happy to open my window. As others found, the room was hot and stuffy, but I was able to turn the radiator down, and with the window open, fresh air wasn’t a problem. I didnt think value for money was great (£120 per night), especially as it didn’t include breakfast…apparently this is extra unless you book directly with the hotel. Unfortunately, i booked at short notice and alternatives which might have been better value were already gone.

Hotel's Favourite
Had a lovely stay here in a family room. Excellent location, right on the seafront and was amazing to have a sea view and hear the waves from the bedroom. All staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel and Aberystwyth itself was accessible for my daughter who has a disability. We thought it was good value for money and would definitely go back.

I have stayed at the Marine in the past and had a really good experience, but sadly, my most recent stay will be my last. I had a great check in, the lady who dealt with me was very nice and helpful. The room itself was nice, and unlike me last visit, the jacuzzi bath worked this time. Sadly, when I returned to the room late in the evening, I realise the room was ridiculously hot. I tried to turn off the radiator but found the thermostat was faulty (hanging off!) The room could not be cooled down at all as opening the window meant constant noise from the street, and the portable fan left in the room was incredibly noisy. Reception was shuttered and closed when I returned (even though it wasn’t much last 11pm), so I could not complain or ask to be moved. On check out, a different lady dealt with me, she didn’t even bother to look up at me let alone ask if my stay was ok, say thank you or goodbye, so I figured there was no point explaining my experience to her. I then contacted Expedia to ask about a refund, they spoke to the hotel who asked them to email the request. Having done that the hotel said no to a refund as I did not raise the issue and ask to be moved (who was I going to ask? There were no staff on duty!), and because I hadn’t complained on check out (yeah, again, who to? The top of the ladies head?). The hotel also said there was no issue with the heating, but a quick search of history reviews of Gwesty Marine show I’m not the first person to experience sweltering heat which can’t be lowered. All in all, a hotel I’ve stayed at a few times over the years showed that they would rather lie to Expedia, and expect a guest to do the impossible rather than provide a good, decent, adequate level of customer service. Steer clear of this place, aim for the Premier Inn a couple of doors down, or the Starling Cloud which is nearby. Both provide decent guest experiences and don’t lie about the issues you face.

The hotel was clean comfortable and had lovely staff The building was a bit dated but in a fantastic location I personally think some background music in the bar area would be appreciated by guests The spa area was a lovely addition which we enjoyed using. Initially the steam room wasn't working but a staff member sorted it out and the sauna sadly was poor but it had an excellent jacuzzi which we enjoyed I would say the hotel needs an injection of money to update it a bit but I realise at the moment that's a big ask I would stay there again...

Very disappointed. The spa is a joke, the sauna isn't even warm and the steam room doesn't work. The room was cramped, and the jacuzzi in the room was completely different to the photos advertised online. The sea view was lovely, but the windows were single-glazed and there was a cold draft, the window looked like it was about to break with every wind blow. The breakfast was included yet so not worth it- the food was cold, poor quality and the staff was not welcoming. The worst was the attitude of the male receptionist, which was absolutely disgusting and ruined our stay and conflicted with the words of the nice receptionist who checked us in. Another morning receptionist said we could get a discount for our next stay but we will NOT BE STAING HERE AGAIN. We should get a refund, not another stay discount. Not worth the money especially 165£ for the apparently deluxe room!!! Avoid.

We were so well looked after, the food in the restaurant was great the apartment very comfortable, had a wonderful breakfast with as much to eat as we liked, and my grand children had seconds. We had a see view which was mesmerizing as the sea was really rough.

We stayed here for a special occasion and from the outset it was a lovely experience. Tarek on the front desk was a constant help, professional, friendly and informative. The room was spotless and very attractive with a very big comfy bed, sparkling bathroom and amazing views. We had a comfortable night and then to a good breakfast, with again, lovely and attentive staff serving the food. We will definitely come back and hope that the staff are appreciated by the hotel owners as they are definitely an excellent asset who made our weekend very pleasant.

Fancy a room with a view, this is the place. Directly opposite the sea, beach and promenade it is ideally situated for walks around the town and beyond. We have stayed a few times and the staff are very polite and the accommodation is very clean. We will definitely be back, thanks for a great weekend.

Very welcoming hotel. Brilliant value. Comfortable beds. Fresh and clean linen and towels . Very well prepared and generous breakfast. Rooms are worn and not perfect but everything works well enough and feels safe. It's a bargain stay rather than a cheaply done stay. Plenty of facilities on site and if you're lucky free parking. All this in an ideal location
