My son returned for his second year at Aberystwyth last weekend and we needed a room for our group of 3 (my wife, my daughter and me) to stay. When I made the booking I paid minimal attention to the property and so it was a tremendous and delightful surprise to emerge from the long single track wooded driveway into the bucolic parkland setting of Nanteos. The house looks fantastic and a couple of small groups were enjoying drinks on the paddock area at the front. There was very well signposted Covid guidance, and (as we now expect) a fully screened reception area. Room service breakfast orders were placed at check-in and then we went up to the room (mini-suite) which was very comfortable and offered great views. We had dinner in town and returned to the hotel to be offered drinks in a large sitting room (the bar is currently Covid closed) which was a very pleasant way to end the evening. Breakfast was delivered bang on time and was extremely good. We cannot wait to return once the pandemic restrictions have eased - we are sure the experience will be excellent.

Since the lockdown we haven't ventured further than our local supermarket so it was a great relief to go to Nanteos now that they have opened their doors. We chose Nanteos as we felt confident all measures would be taken to keep people safe whilst maintaining a great friendly service. The weather was wonderful and the views and walks around the hotel are simply stunning and so peaceful, a great place to relax and forget everything! To ensure everyone's safety and tracking, Nantoes served our wonderful breakfast in our room. The restaurant is closed and they are not serving customers who aren't guests - that way they are sticking to the rules on safety and tracking just in case. We hired a taxi they recommended and wore our masks, used hand-gel and then had a meal out .. it was the best fish and chips I've had, and we ate them on the sea-front! It was such a treat to get away, I felt reassured staying with Nanteos and so long as everybody maintains this standard, hopefully it won't be long before we can get back to normal and eat fabulous meals at Nanteos too!

We were staying to attend a family funeral. We stayed for two nights and have had a very comfortable stay. The building is an old country mansion with a lot of links to history. Our room was lovely, large and clean. Our super king size bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was large and had his and her sinks and a spa bath and shower. We werr provided with coffee, tea, chocolate, water and biscuits. The TV and wifi worked well. Breakfast was served in the original kitchen where a lot of old cooking equipment was on display. We both had the cooked breakfast but also chose items from the buffet bar - cereals, fruit, toast etc. Everything was clean and well presented and service was very good. There is a separate restaurant for evening meals. We only ate one evening meal there but it was very tasty and again the service was good.
The hotel caters for weddings and the original music room is used for wedding ceremonies. The hotel grounds are large and attractive. There is plenty of parking. The hotel is approached by a single track road but we did not find this a problem.
The overall feel of the hotel is relaxing and we would definitely return if we are in that area again. In particular, we would like to thank Jon for making us welcome and looking after us.

We have stayed at Nanteos three times before and enjoyed it so much, we decided to go back in July 2020. We were a little concerned because of Corona Virus, but need not have worried. The hotel was taking the virus threat very seriously indeed, with full social distancing measures - even when parking your car - and with all rooms sanitised after each guest has left, then actually sealed, so that new arrivals can be reassured the rooms are safe for occupancy, The hotel were only doing B & B because of the virus, but our breakfasts were served each day on time and beautifully prepared, hot and really enjoyable, in our room. We had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay, as usual. Highly recommended.

My husband and I decided to have our wedding at this beautiful mansion on 11th Septemeber (3rd date after Covid) and let me tell you it was well worth the wait. The day was made so special from all the hard work the staff put in and were always around when we needed anything it was a joy to have all pressures taken away from you. A special thank you to Claire and Alec as they seemed to always pop up when you needed them, very attentive and couldn't do enough for us. They kept us updated all through the day with things and made it all go like clock work. The music room was set up exactly how we wanted it along with the dining room it looked stunning. Food from breakfast, canapes, wedding breakfast and evening buffet was tremendous as well, full complements to the chef too! Also thank you to everyone on Sunday we were not felt pressured or rushed to check out and we had quite a bit of clearing to do with all the wedding stuff as well as tidy the mews as it was a mad rush when the time started ticking on! The mews is a fantastic place and so light and spacious. It was a perfect place for me and my bridesmaid along with their husbands /partners to stay the night before and we all had beautiful rooms. Last of all the stunning mansion is fantastic for all the pictures along with the amazing Welsh countryside and we even had the sun too which topped our day.
Thank you all so much for your patience and perfection all weekend it never faltered.
Also massive thank you to Mark and Nigel xx

Although we only live 70 miles from Nanteos it has become our favourite place when we need a little unwind time. The building and the setting are amazing. The service too. Great breakfasts set you up for a day exploring the many delights that mid-Wales has to offer.
Value? If you have the breakfast at a premier inn, it's the same price but no comparison for comfort. The room I'm sat in writing this is 20' square and very tastefully furnished.

We had a ground floor room on the front of the Hotel overlooking the fields which was lovely, however although I appreciate for security reasons the sash windows are prevented from opening on the ground floor we found the room stuffy during the night and we needed some fresh air and the windows got very steamed up.
A restrictor on the sash window would do the trick so I strongly suggest they install them. (I expect the sash windows on the upper floors open but can’t be sure)
The bed was a very cheap base that creaked rather badly when you moved or turned over which is rather frustrating in the middle of the night. For the price of the room I would expect a much better quality bed. (Even the Premier Inn have better beds)
We enjoyed the ambience of the Hotel and the Staff were extremely friendly & accommodating. The food was really good and plentiful.
Overall a fabulous place to stay and highly recommended. Just a few tweaks please to improve the experience.

I booked this to celebrate my husbands birthday, asked for a btl of prosecco in the room, booked on booking.com but spoke to them two days before staying, I asked if we could have dinner but they were full and due to covid and social distancing both nights were not available.
We arrived thinking we could have a drink in the bar but because the people having dinner in the restaurant had their coffee in there we couldn't sit anywhere, we were offered the chairs by the stairs, we felt a bit discarded. No prosecco in the room on arrival and we were also told as we were the last to arrive we couldn't eat breakfast in the restaurant the following morning so had to eat it in our room.
I was expecting a bit more opulence but sadly the room we were in ( disabled access room) was very ordinary, it was clean and large but under other bedrooms so noise from above was annoying.
The vegan breakfast was awful and had a long blond hair attached.
I told the hotel about noise and breakfast and they were apologetic.
I think if you book here do so by phone or make it very clear on which room you want, you want breakfast in the restaurant and if you want an evening meal, book early.
The staff are lovely and the setting is beautiful hence the 3 stars.

The breakfast this morning was good but I did go and buy some sausages I use at home and they cooked these!
Lovely weekend, if you check in early enough and book dinner in advance it would have been even better so maybe the hotel should advise you of this on booking.

Came here for a wedding weekend. Lovely spot. Staff brilliant. So obliging and friendly. Food amazing. Breakfast very good. Available in your room if wished at no extra charge. Everyone who had that said how efficient it was and the food was really hot. Only down side. We had the Japan suite. It doesn’t have a view at all just looks out onto a shed It could do with more hanging space. Also has a glass fire door which looks out onto the escape which is BRIGHTLY lit all night. The blinds don’t block out much light either. Could do with a blackout lining. Everywhere spotless the view from the front is amazing and it’s extremely quiet

- suoer friendly staff
- Amazing location
- Large rooms
The whole mansion is in urgent need of some TLC and needs some fresh paint here and there
Some warmer white lights would give the overall a more pleasant atmosphere.
Outside, near the entrance of our room there is a pile of rubbish that needs to be cleaned. See photo. It gives a messy impression.
The rooms are clean but lack a bit of decoration to make it more cosy and “homy”.
The rooms (we stayed in a suite) are a bit overpriced more so that they aren’t serviced during the stay. Amenities are being stocked but beds are not being made up and you have to ask yourself for fresh towels. For this kind of price I would expect some cleaning and servicing.
I know it is not cheap to maintain a mansion like this but some updating is needed.
So much more can be done with such a beautiful manion and wonderful location.

How would I get there in a car from South Wales
Answer from Nanteos M
Aberystwyth, United Kingdom27 contributions1 helpful vote
Good morning, The best route will be M4 or A40 to Carmarthen. Then A486 towards New Quay. At the junction with A487 at Synod Inn, turn right towards Aberystwyth. After passing through Rhydyfelin, just before Aberystwyth, take the right hand turn towards Devils bridge and then immediately right (signposted Nanteos). The next left is the drive to the Mansion. It should take approximately 75 minutes from Carmarthen. Regards

Good morning. Your easiest method without a car is the train from Euston station to Aberystwyth. This journey will take approximately 4 hours 30 minutes. A short taxi drive (10 minutes) from the station will bring you to Nanteos. For our most competitive rates and to check availability, it is advisable to call us on 01970600522. Many thanks for your interest, we look forward to hearing from you Shauvon.
