Spacious modern hostel with views of Conwy's Castle, medieval walls and harbour. Conwy Youth Hostel is an ideal base for exploring North Wales. A great location for backpackers, families, youth organization and anyone wanting easy access to the coastal resorts of Llandudno and the Snowdonia National park. The hostel is situated on hill just outside the town walls of Conwy in large grounds with a summer house, barbecue and picnic area. There are spectacular views from the roof terrace of the ancient medieval town of Conwy and the North Wales coastline. The town centre with its pubs, tea shops and local attractions is just a 10 minute walk away. The Conwy Castle is well worth a visit and the quayside is great for sitting back and watching the yachts and fishing boats go by. Guest Rooms – Spacious, light, clean with security lockers and all room fully en-suite. Bar – Relax tasting the Local beer lounging in our new Bar or admire the view from the patio/terrace overlooking the Snowdonia National Park. Outside – Plenty of room for a game of football in our large garden, enjoy the peace and quiet of the summerhouse or eat al fresco in our picnic and BBQ areas. Common areas – Relax and enjoy the views from our observation lounge and roof terrace, chill out in front of the TV with the kids in our family area, challenge someone to a game of pool or table football in the games room or if you just want peace and quiet sit and read your favourite book in our quiet lounge. Meals – All our meals are delicious and great value for money. If after a hard days sightseeing you don’t feel like cooking enjoy one of our evening meal specialties such as Welsh lamb casserole or Lemon and Herb salmon. We even have a special children’s menu with old favourites like Fish Fingers and Chips and Bangers and Mash.

We stayed in a 4 bed ensuite room as a family of 4. The room was bigger than some of the other YHAs we have stayed in and we felt it was big enough for us. Comfy bunks, slept really well. Great views from our room and communal areas. Well equipped self catering kitchen. Lots of board games plus pool table and table foitball to keep the kids amused. Negatives - the sealant in ensuite shower needs replacing, black mould marks present. The shower is super powerful, hubby thought it was great but I found it too much and as the showerhead wasn't adjustable it was difficult to use. Young children would hate the shower. As always helpful friendly staff in a fantastic location.

Many thanks for your review. We are a great hostel for families and its great you found it so. Are showers are quite powerful (and hot) and that is generally popular. Our apologies that the sealant had some mould marks. We do review and replace on a periodic basis and will do so again in this case. We hope to see you again here or another YHA at some point in the future. Thanks

Just back from 4 nights at YHA Conwy. Stayed in a 4 bed en-suite room with my 2 children. Check in was hassle free and we received a friendly welcome. Self catering kitchen, dining room and all communal areas closed (but we were aware of this before arriving). Room was a little tired - radiator needed painting and curtains looked as though they needed a good wash! Also incredibly hot, as there was only one window we were able to open. No storage of any kind (not sure if this is due to Covid?), but not a massive issue. On the first morning after arriving, we ordered bacon and sausage baps for breakfast (limited takeaway menu for breakfast), this was fine. Order at reception, the chef rings you when it is ready, and you collect takeaway boxes from the dining room. Strange times indeed!

We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again. Plenty to see and do in the local area. We enjoyed a morning at West Shore, Llandudno - far quieter beach area than North Shore. Toilets, play area and beach cafe. Watch out for aggressive seagulls at the cafe and lots of jellyfish on the beach! Bodnant Gardens are lovely National Trust Gardens a short drive away. We walked into Conwy from the youth hostel, a short 10 minute walk (slightly longer walking back up the hill!!). Castle was shut when we were there, but you can walk along the city walls. We briefly walked along the Quay and saw the Smallest House in Great Britain (open now, but we didn’t go in), but on a hot, sunny day, we found there were far too many people milling about to feel comfortable given the current situation. All in all, a lovely stay in a beautiful part of the world.

We are thrilled to hear that you have had such a good time in Conwy/ North Wales! We look forward to seeing you again hopefully when more restrictions are lifted and you will be able to enjoy your time away even more. Apologies for the hot room unfortunately we are unable to remove the window restrictions as they are in place to follow health and safety policy and the fire escapes are alarmed for emergency use only. Regarding the lack of furniture, this is due to Covid and is to reduce the amount of contact point to keep you as guests and us as staff safer during these difficult times. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us and we hope that other guests can use your feed back to plan their trips in the future!

I’ve been staying here once a year for three years for around 4 nights each time. Overall the place is quite good with some issues, so here is my pros & cons list

Pros:
• Very good location (5 min walk from Conwy center, 5 min drive from the beach)
• Car parking almost always available on site
• Nice, spacious & quiet back garden seating area
• Generally good cleanliness with beds, sheets, rooms etc
• Staff members are nice and happy to help out with most issues
• Reasonable pricing
• Barbecue area available outside and a games room will be available when covid restrictions ease
• Breakfast served 7:30-9am with a cafe open most of the day

Cons:
• NO AIR CON IN ROOMS; they heat up pretty badly on hot days even with all windows open. I understand air conditioning streches the budget a bit for a small youth hostel; a small plug-in fan would be a good thing to bring with you and would probably be enough to cool a room down. The rooms are fine on cooler days, with radiators for cold days.
• The beds are quite bad if you are around 6”2+. Your feet hang over the back edge and is not comfortable. Anyone under 6”0 wont have any troubles.
• The bathroom lights are turned on with a movement sensor and turn off quite often when using the showers. I don’t know if this is the case with all of them or whether ours was a bit faulty.

I don’t have many other experiences with youth hostels apart from this one. I think the rooms here aren’t the best but apart from that it’s great. Well suited for uni student holidays / short family holidays. The surrounding area is also great and quite scenic.

We have visited this youth hostel before and unfortunately we’re left very disappointed this time. I was allocated Room 1 which is a 2 person en-suite room. This has floor to ceil windows, with only one small window opening slightly. In this heat and with the window and door shut all day ahead of check in time of 5pm the room had essentially been a greenhouse all day, and when we opened the door it was noticeable cooler to be out on the landing and even outside. I opened the window and bedroom door onto the corridor to try to prompt some air flow through the room. However as night arrived this needed to be closed, and we both had a very uncomfortable nights sleep. The kitchen facilities still remain closed and whilst I appreciate that we are still living with covid, the staff didn’t seem to feel this would be opening again soon. As much as a support the YHA as a charity, it did make me question whether I would stay again as there are is other accommodation which is cheaper than YHA and would have offered the same, and perhaps even air conditioning.

Hi Helen, Thank you for leaving a review, we are sorry you didn't seem to enjoy it. As you stated it is rare to have such a heat wave and we do think we applied as much consideration as possible to a surprising and uncharacteristic rise in temperatures. Again we really are sorry that the rooms weren't a bit cooler, we can't currently leave doors open into public spaces due to covid. Rest assured that if we could have the self catering open we would but restriction are extremely tough, but they are there for everyone's benefit and fingers crossed it opens soon. We hope it wasn't enough to keep you away, hoping to see you soon. The whole Team at YHA Conwy

This was my first time staying at a YHA so I wasn't really sure what to expect. The room, a twin with bunk beds was small, but clean. The shower was excellent, there is absolutely nowhere to unpack anything,1 hook each on the back of the door, nothing else whatsoever.
The beds were comfortable and the duvets good. Temperature can be easily adjusted.
Wifi was available in the dining room, although for some reason I was unable to connect, everyone else seemed fine.
Kitchen was closed due to covid, but a few takeaway options were available.
Good views over the surrounding countryside.
Conwy is a nice little town to explore with plenty of other attractions nearby.
Irritating green light had people coming up with inventive ways to block the light, no problem if you are on the bottom bunk, but a real issue for those on the top. Relocation of the light to the hallway would improve things or put on wall so easy to hang something over it.
In general a positive first experience and a great price.

Really glad your first stay in a YHA was so positive, and hope this encourages you to stay in some of our other great locations through out England an Wales. At the moment things are a little different due to Covid restrictions, like no storage in the bedrooms. You will be glad to know, we can now cover all the green lights, so this will no longer be an issue.

Stayed in a four bed dorm with friends. The beds were comfortable, location excellent (five mins walk into town) but best of all, for a hostel, the shower was great- temperature of the water was hot and the pressure was high. Breakfast was very good- £9.95 for an English breakfast but unlimited. Only criticism was that it was extremely hot in the room- duvets were too thick and window would only open a little so didn’t sleep as well as I could. Providing a fan would help. All said, I would stay here again.

A very well designed hostel. Spectacular views from the cafe area, and an excellent kitchen. Staff very friendly and welcoming. There were 2 of us in a private bunk room with an en-suite which was perfect. It’s a 10 minute walk into town which is no bother at all and was ok at night too. Only thing was the room was very hot due to the mattresses being plastic - however it meant we knew they were clean!

Just spent 3 nights at Conwy yha for a short break in snowdonia. Stunning views of sea and mountains from hosts. Great location for touring around and walks. Conwy lovely little town world heritage site . Good walks to Ormes head and Llandudno. Within half hour drive of snow don. Other nice spots nearby like Aber falls. Conway mussel centre worth a taste of their seafood mix tray caught and cooked on the day. Very friendly and helpful team at the yha. Will definitely be back.
