Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just spent a very enjoyable night at The Castle Hotel. Circumstances prevented us staying longer, but we definitely hope to return. Staff were friendly throughout providing excellent service. We paid for the upgrade and indulge package and it was well worth it, enjoying lovely views of the castle from our junior suite. The food was very good, albeit a little eclectic in parts, and the prosecco which came with our package was very appreciated. A great breakfast to finish the stay. All round excellent.

The hotel staff were very welcoming and friendly. The hotel was in the middle of town, easy access to the castle, marina and shops. Bedroom was classically decorated and plenty of room. Only negative is my bedroom window was overlooked by the restaurant outdoor space next door, privacy was a problem during the day

Our room was quite comfortable AFTER I went through and dusted everything. I don’t know if the room had been empty for weeks or they just don’t throughly clean it between guests. I used three rags to wipe everything down especially lamp shades that were caked in dust. Some other issues we had were the staff. Just didn’t have very good service especially in the dining room at breakfast. One morning waited almost 30 minutes for coffee. The fire alarm went off 4 times while we were there. The location is great though.

Lovely hotel in the middle of the town. It has a lot of character. We used the car park at the back of the hotel but the access was very tight so be careful if you have a large car. Our room was large and the bed was comfortable. Staff were friendly and clearly work hard. We ate in the bar in the evening and the food was lovely. Breakfast was good.

+1
We chose this hotel due to the good reviews and the convenient town location that is excellent for visiting the places of interest. One of the other reasons was that parking was included but if you can't access the hotel car park opposite the hotel you need to use the one at the rear of the hotel and if you do there is an archway that you have to negotiate and if you have a wide vehicle you do have to be careful. Our room 104 was clean and although a little small and at the end of a corridor, there was not a great deal of passing noise but quite a lot from adjacent equipment and the church bell ringing. For us the location of the room was adjacent to an external fire escape and as I did my initial check of fire safety precautions I did note a number of problems including unprotected external fire escapes, fire resisting doors wedged open and poorly fitting fire resisting doors and these do require urgent attention. Overall, we had a nice stay and were able to visit many of the local attractions and places of interest.

Exceptional service, amazing room, walking distance to everywhere in town (its not that big) and plenty of history to entertain you. Cannot recommend this hotel enough. Did I mention outstanding value for money? The staff were attentive, responsive, proactive and always there.

A pleasant, comfortable hotel in an exceptionally convenient location. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food very good and the facilities good. The only downside in having a room overlooking the High Street was that there was a lot of very early morning noise - one got an early morning "wake-up call"! However, this is something one puts up with in light of the benefits of the hotel location.

We stayed hear for a birthday weekend. The hotel is in a great location close to the towns facilities and our room had a great view of the castle. The staff were great, friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was good but the service was slow especially for breakfast. The room was lovely with a newly fitted bathroom. As it was the weekend the bar was rowdy so we went elsewhere for a drink. We would definitely stay here again
