Booked a mini suite for a one night stay as an extra treat for my wife's 70th birthday which was the previous week.
This was our first stay at the Chainbridge, both of us had been there for meals back in the early 1970's but needless to say our memories of those visits are somewhat faded.
Therefore, we were as new visitors as we parked our car in the lower car park which is somewhat restricted but close to the entrance. There is another larger (higher) car park which is a short walk away.
Once you pass into the entrance you approach reception via a covered veranda with the River Dee gushing below.
We were given the keys to our mini suite which was on the top floor. Entering we were pleased to see a lovely four post bed and beyond that a French door leading out to our private balcony. To the left of our bedroom was a sitting room with two comfy chairs affording a splendid view of the river and the wooded hills beyond with the Llangollen steam railway in the foreground.
To the rear of the sitting room was our ensuite bathroom. All in all very comfortable accommodation.
We spent a very restful afternoon reading and eating chocolates and not forgetting to take in the stunning views. We even made it out to the external balcony for a short period, it is after all late January.
Soon it was time to go down for dinner. The dining room is glazed from floor to ceiling on the riverside so the glorious vista is continued here.
We found the menu to offer a good choice and the food presentation and quality was a high standard. The staff were all extremely good at what they did and very friendly,
nothing was too much trouble.
After a good night's sleep we enjoyed a hearty cooked breakfast which is served buffet style. The bacon and sausages were particularly tasty and locally sourced.
All too soon we had to leave but we will be back.
This is a unique place and well worth a visit.

Our first hotel stay after the easing of restrictions was only ever going to be at the Chainbridge, and we were not disappointed.
We treated ourselves to a junior suite, in case the weather misbehaved and not knowing quite how relaxed the rest of the hotel would feel with the additional safety measures in place. As it turned out, we needn't have worried on either count. We had plenty of dry weather over our long weekend to enjoy the glorious setting, and every time we turned round, there was the stream train again! And as for the atmosphere, it was happy and relaxed, down in no small part to the friendly, dedicated and hard-working staff.
Much thought has been put into keeping guests safe and happy, whilst retaining a comfortable, relaxed feel. The restaurant has been extended into the bar area, to allow tables to be spaced further apart, and buffet breakfasts and the traditional bar have been replaced by table service. All of this means that the staff are all working even harder than ever, but they do so with smiles on their faces and the welfare of guests at the centre of everything they're doing.
Feeling nervous about your first post-lockdown hotel stay? Take it at the Chainbridge, you won't want to go anywhere else!

This was our third visit to this hidden gem of a hotel. I was a little apprehensive as it was the first weekend open after lockdown. I should never have worried. Everything was in place regarding social distancing, hand sanitiser everywhere, tables spaced out and a one way system in place. All staff wearing masks and I felt very safe. The hotel has had a refurb which has been beautifully carried out. The staff.... well what can I say, Gemma our lovely waitress was attentive, friendly and had a great sense of humour. The receptionist Marion was so welcoming and made us feel special and the waiter Seamus (who I have since found out is the owner) was amazing. Lovely to see an owner being on the front line with his staff and mucking in with all aspects of hotel life. Also a special shout out to the room cleaning staff who worked tirelessly in the heat to keep the rooms extremely clean. All in all yet another incredible stay. Well done everyone and we will be back very soon. Sue, Room 6 xx

Thank you very much indeed! As you know now, we are so touched by your comments. As one of the first guests to check-in following our reopening, we had the same concerns as you - we have worked tirelessly to ensure that everything is right, that the measures are appropriate, that guests and staff are comfortable, and that we can still be ourselves and offer you a warm welcome. Hearing comments from you and others completely put us at ease that we're getting it right, and we will now work ourselves silly to ensure we carry on as we have started off. We are so touched that you and others continue to return to the hotel and that it is a place you continue to cherish. We cherish you too, and look forward to welcoming you both back soon. Best regards Seamus

Wonderful hotel and absolutely beautiful location, all staff very friendly and so helpful.
Recently refurbished rooms to a high standard, the hotel is built on the banks of the beautiful River Dee with full view of rapids so while we were eating or drinking , either outside or in the restaurant we could watch the water, watch the kayaks white water rafters.
All meals that we had were really nice,
with a special mention for the Lamb Henry and Roast Beef Roast Dinner that was available yesterday. (Sunday) also I have got the mention supurb breakfast choice (try the scrambled eggs and salmon!)
For what you get for the price really is excellent value for money.
I have stayed in many hotels in most continants (as I am sure a lot of people have) but the Chain Bridge Hotel must be the most pleasant.
On the other side of the hotel there is a canal with a well managed tow path with direct access to Llangollen about 1 mile away, all off road, great to walk, cycle, morning run etc.
We shall be back, thanks to all the staff, management and of course Chefs and Housekeeping.

Full of character and a little quirky. Amazing location built around the Chainbridge. Lovely people working there. Booked rooms 44, 45, and 46 for the first two nights. After two nights we moved out of 45 and into 37 junior suite. Room 46 was a twin room used by our daughters who had a dog with them. Room 44 was a slightly bigger room which our son had to himself. The room 37 was well worth the extra cost as it was twice the size with an amazing view of the river from a broad balcony. It was very warm too which was surprising as the weather was average and room 45 had been on the cold side. We had windows open all the time and the balcony door when in the room. Breakfast was very good each day and we had two evening meals. Mains were great although a couple of the sweets were disappointing. The rooms were clean although outsides of the ground floor rooms which opened onto the canal were covered in cobwebs and dead flies which a quick brush round would have sorted. The hanging baskets and pots were lovely and a special mention to the lady on reception who was super. Car park was a challenge for anything that was not a small car but there was an overflow car park above with steps down the cliff side which we used when not loading or unloading. Great base for exploring this part of Wales.

Thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay at this wonderful hotel. The location is impressive, set between the river and the canal, where we walked along to the horseshoe falls and also into Llangollen. The Chainbridge itself, restored to its former glory, is a delight in itself with the River Dee gushing underneath.
Check in was smooth with a lovely warm welcome from the lady on reception. We settled into our room (Number 8) which was perfectly presented, with the most fantastic views from our balcony, simply stunning.
We had drinks in the bar and then a lovely meal in the restaurant, followed by home made pizza to take to our room for supper!
The service of the staff was brilliant, super friendly, genuinely interested to chat to you, and nothing was too much trouble for them.
We rounded off our stay with a full English breakfast in the morning, I highly recommend the locally sourced sausages, with coffee and OJ.
Thank you to the owner Seamus, who was super attentive to all of his guests, and all of his team for a fantastic stay. We hope you enjoyed our music CD we left behind for you.
We will be back to see you for a Guinness soon!

So this could be a truly wonderful hotel, the setting is lovely but sadly the public areas could do with a good clean, staff are on the whole very helpful but are inexperienced, a unicorn would be good and the waitresses need to tie their long hair back to stop it from dang I g in the food that they are serving.
Food-: this was disappointing the dinner we had was virtually inedible and breakfast was marginally better but did improve slightly on the second day, but still left a ?or to be desired perhaps consideration should a!so be given to the quality of products and ingredients as there is certainly room for improvement.
Room we had was a junior suite which was actually very nice, however was slightly let down by the absence of a couple of glasses in the room and possibly a mini fridge which one would expect at a rate of £150 per night. Servicing of the rooms should always include making the bed and washing any cups which have been used and possibly replenishing of any toiletries used it supplied.
Overall I would say that this hotel is not great value for money as it stands but could with a little attention to detail, some proper training for the staff and definitely a new chef could be fantastic

Booked an overnight stay Friday/Saturday and have to say was very impressed.

Cycled 80 miles and needed somewhere to eat & sleep and the hotel was fabulous!

Located outside LLangollen on the river, canal & with a steam train station opposite it ticks most boxes.

Original room had recently been decorated so were moved without fuss to a room with a riverside view & large balcony. Which was great. The river was loud but we loved it.

A bit tired so opted to eat at the restaurant, good service & great food & drink at very reasonable price. Minor gripe - Sticky Toffee pudding came first cream when custard was order & was more of a dry toffee sponge affair.

Breakfast the next day was good not great although as with dinner was swift once ordered, probably a little less haste might help.

Phone signal at the hotel is poor & WiFi is only available downstairs which needs improving.

All of the staff were very warm & friendly.

Would definitely return & recommend.

Many thanks for your very generous review - we are delighted that you enjoyed so many elements of your stay with us, and knowing you would return and recommend is wonderful. Since your stay last week we have just made a significant investment in WIFI boosters to enhance the signal throughout the hotel, however we do still receive very little bandwidth from the internet companies, which is currently beyond our control, though we continue to try and push for high speed fibre optic broadband to reach our rural location. Thank you for all of your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back. Kind regards Seamus

The location is stunning the River Dee was high so the views from our balcony were amazing and mesmerising we had a suite which was worth the extra , settee , gorgeous very comfy king size bed large balcony and lovely bathroom. The staff especially the breakfast staff are amazing happy inclusive and friendly happy to give information and tips for the local area. 4 mins flat walk along the towpath to Horseshoe falls which was stunning , we had a gorgeous drive over the Horseshoe pass stopping for a cup of tea at The Ponderosa at the top, you can walk along the tow path to Llangollen which again was lovely. Very quiet peaceful and secure some people have previously stated the river noise kept them awake it was very fast when we were there never interrupted our sleep as fabulous double glazing. Whole hotel was warm and cosy with a beautiful log fire in the lounge and TV. Breakfast was amazing so efficient all freshly cooked with top notch ingredients a lovely experience at a decent time span 8am - 10am hotel spotless. Just a couple of things the food was without doubt beautiful freshly cooked and plentiful but as it was winter there were a few things out of stock all the pies and beer battered fish which left limited choices if eating there more than once also it would be nice to have a bottle of fresh water each in the bedrooms particularly in the suite I would highly recommend and definitely revisit thank you for a lovely stay

After looking at many hotels in the region we came across this lovely hotel.
It looked unique which is was we like. Nestled between the rive Dee and the canal it was perfect.
To get there you need to go along a narrow road alongside the canal, ok in the light, but I imagine not so good in the dark.
We were treated by a nice lady who booked us in, we went to our room which was spacious but unfortunately right over the kitchen extraction fan. We asked if we could change rooms and as luck would have it, there was one free. A smaller room but on the riverside and with an added bonus of a balcony.
The rooms looked like they had been refurbished during the lockdown period, but housekeeping let the room Down. There was something left under the dressing table, we didn’t investigate too closely but showed that the chair had not been moved when the room was vacuumed and there was a used shower gel in the shower. There were also loads of spiders and homes outside on the roof of the balcony which could have been brushed away.
After my husband got rid of all the spiders that were in our room, 5 in total, we went down to dinner. Food was fantastic, large portions, well cooked and presented served by efficient friendly staff.
Later on returning to our room, we settled down, the noise of the river though loud was quite soothing but the heat in the room was overwhelming and the bed was uncomfortable and creaked every time one of us moved.
So not much sleep was had. Breakfast in the morning was again delicious and served by two lovely pleasant gentlemen.
As you paid for your room on arrival and your meals in the restaurant, leaving was rather impersonal just leave your key and go.
On the whole a nice place to come and eat but perhaps not to stay.
