I booked this hotel at the last minute as a trip to Paris got cancelled due to the pandemic but we still wanted a break and what a break it was. We decided as the hotel was dog friendly we'd bring our four legged friend along for the trip and I am so pleased we did.

I have never stayed in a hotel that was as dog friendly in my whole life, it even had a doggo menu at the restaurant (for non dog owners there is another dining room so you don't have to dine with dogs) and in the morning he had sausages and biscuits.

The location of the hotel is perfect, Beddgelert is a lovely picturesque villages which is close to the beaches, Snowdon and towns such as Betwy-s-coed and Llanberis.

We felt safe in the hotel COVID-19 wise, there was hand sanitiser next to all the doors, tables we're spaced apart and there was a one way system for the bar.

We've never stayed anywhere twice before but I'm sure we'll be back!

Just got back had One night at the Saracens Head
Any reviews given at this time have take into account the Covid regulations I don’t think it’s possible for them to give their very best at the moment having said that here goes .
The staff were excellent friendly efficient and nothing seemed to much trouble..
The rooms,This is an old building so the rooms probably differ we had no 9 which was small but adequate the problem for me was the size of the beds Im five ten my feet hung over the end anybody over six foot is not going to sleep very well at all.In comparison to the room the bathroom was huge powerful shower always hot and plenty of clean towels .
The food ,we had an evening meal which was ok but not outstanding very pricey for what was on offer .The breakfast however was excellent varied choice and beautifully
Cooked.
The location is brilliant it’s on the banks of the river would be a great spot to sit and have a drink in the summer.

We enjoyed our stay very much: the room was fantastic, very stylish and clean. The design, furniture and decor - all well coordinated, great combination of everything: from colours to materials. Wood, woven woollen plaid for the bed, comfortable mattress and pillows... They even brought us breakfast of our choice In the morning. I know, as we stayed during pandemic, it was rather “a control measure” to serve breakfast into the rooms, but nevertheless, I have felt like a princess.
Were were not many tourists around in Snowdonia at that time, but the hotel’ restaurant downstairs at the outside terrace was full at sunset.
The traditional meals were quite pleasant and decent.
The village is very charming and has lovely views and beautiful peaceful energy.
Walk across the river and discover the legend of Gelert's grave, which tells the story of the 13th-century Prince Llywelyn and his faithful hound Gelert.....

Unfortunately this was the only restaurant serving food in the evening during our stay in Beddgelert so we ate there on two occasions. Our first visit we were met by a very pleasant young man who took our of starter and mains and brought us our drinks order. No sooner had we taken a mouthful of our drink and our starter arrived. Simple, but cooked well. Our server then returned to say 'You will be ready for your mains' to which we thought we would have time to digest our starter but no, as stated in a previous review, upon his return came our mains!! Very rushed, although the food was palatable for typical pub grub.
Our second visit was quite the opposite, a longer break between starter and main, great we thought. Then we realised why, we were the only table in at the time and the staff were doing cleaning jobs, including using a very strong detergent whilst we were trying to enjoy our food. There was no sign of clearing of the mains plate and when I asked for the dessert menu I was told 'I will ask the chef' although it was only 5 minutes after restaurant closing time and we had been waiting for some time. I did receive a dessert, microwaved and certainly not worth the wait. Needless to say, no tip was left. As regards Covid regulations, they have all the gear and yes... No idea. No checking that guests have signed in, not all staff wearing masks or visors. Yes there is hand sanitiser around, did I see any staff use it? I will let you answer that one!

We have been visiting this hotel for 3 years and have stayed on average 3 times a year. The hotel is in a beautiful location and close to Snowdonia which is why we booked it, the rooms are nicely decorated and cosy.
We have just got back from a weekend away and it was disappointing, we were here in November and hoped that the decline in the hotel was due to the off season time of year.
However after our weekend I just wanted to write this review.
There use to be a young lad who was the manager and he was fantastic made your visit feel special, really took notice and the place felt organised, I think he must have left now as we’ve not seen him the last few visits which is a shame.

The wonderful lady who serves for breakfast luckily is still there and she had always been a constant positive for the hotel, and has always done that role apart from a small time they put her in the kitchen, luckily someone saw sense and realised she is the definition of customer care. and to be honest the only reason we would come back at this point would be to see her, as she is always so warm and caring. She makes you feel so welcome........please look after her.

There are some new faces there and one lady is quite negative and always seems like everything is a hassle, to be honest it actually makes me feel uncomfortable. I understand hospitality is a hard job, but you cant vocalise that In front of guests.

The room this time was very cold and we had to ask for the heating to be switched on, normally we are out all day walking, but with the storm we had to stay in after only a few hours walk so thought the room would be warm.

The hotel was out of porridge and soup which seemed basic, the 2 people working the evening of Valentine’s Day were running around as there were only those 2 in to help do everything, I did feel for them.

I’m sad to say after all our visits we are now looking at staying somewhere else, we will come back at some point and hope the standards of what it use to be have returned.

I came here for a trip with my boyfriend and mum. Location was great but I have nothing positive to say about the hotel. Don't be fooled by the photos of the rooms - the photographer clearly did a very good job to hide the dirty pillowcases and mouldy bathroom. Behind the mirror I found a huge patch of black mould (photo attached) and the walls also had mould patches which had been poorly covered by paint. One pillowcase had a fresh mark on it which resembled some sort of food or mud. The food is awful and extremely overpriced. My mum ordered 'braised beef' which was overcooked and tasted as if it had been reheated in a microwave. Two of the wine glasses had lipstick marks on them which isn't acceptable, especially during a pandemic. Now the biggest issue - we saw one member of staff outside smoking marijuana on his break (the smell is very distinctive) and returned to serve us in the restaurant later with the most bizarre behaviour. We saw two tables leave because of this waiter and the whole atmosphere in the restaurant was very awkward. When we brought this to the manager's attention when checking out, her reply was 'I will speak to him about this, however he is my hardest working member of staff and it's been a tough year for everyone.' Wow. At breakfast the next morning, I used the downstairs toilet which was in a disgusting condition and had clearly not been cleaned from the night before. There are more things I could list but this review is already long enough. What should have been a lovely trip away was one of the worst trips I've had and I couldn't wait to come home.

We booked a 2 night stay (Fri/sat) in a Deluxe room at this supposed 4 star hotel .., unfortunately 4 star and deluxe it is not. Cobwebs everywhere on the landing to our room… not a good start.
The photos on the website look nothing like the room we were allocated.
When we arrived we were told they were very short staffed so there would be no housekeeping at the weekend and that the last dinner reservation was 7.15pm… not ideal in a place central to walking up Snowdon and the surrounding area ..we asked if we could have some breakfast items to take with us ( as we were leaving at 6am to climb snowden) but we’re told no staff would be in before 8am so all they could offer us was fruit.
The room ( room 6) whilst large was extremely dated and smelled of fust and mildew. One of the Roman blinds was broken, the sash windows didn’t open properly and although the bed was large and comfortable, the bathroom was absolutely disgusting! (See photos)
Smelled horrible, mildew all over the walls and ceiling and the shower was covered in thick black mould! Which came off around your feet if the shower head was pointed at the walls. Gross.
Went to complain during the stay -but no staff to complain too… ( we are still here so I will be complaining before we leave)
Very disappointing stay.

We visited here over bank holiday weekend! It wasn’t too busy when we sat at our table, ordered drinks and our food with the waiter.
We waited a while then 2 of the 4 drinks arrived, then waiting another 15/20 minutes we asked for the other drinks and they were finally bought out to us.

We then waited for approx 45 mins for the waiter to inform us there was a problem with our order and it hadn’t gone though to the kitchen so it had just been given to the chef and would be another 10 minutes to wait which we were happy to wait as the village was getting busier and our children were very fed up, upset and hungry.
After ANOTHER 30 minutes of waiting we still hadn’t received our food so left and didn’t even get our food.
Will never visit again. Unfortunate as could be such a lovely place with the ideal location, just needs more training for new staff not understanding the system or management keeping a closer eye on customers to make sure this doesn’t happen.

On arrival greeted by friendly receptionist who explained Covid rules.

Sadly after that the hotel was not very welcoming. The breakfast room was not set up with crockery and cutlery - very basic menu service, reasonable food

The room had been recently refurbished and was ok

Expensive for what it was

We arrived for a weekend stay for two nights, with friends. I booked a table for dinner prior to arriving wanting 8pm to be told the latest they could do was 7pm. We agreed and booked. A day before I got a phone call to ask if we could dine earlier as they were very busy , short staffed and had double booked!
When we ate that night all the tables had reserved on but in fact only 3 were taken. We learned that last orders for food was in fact 7pm!
Once we checked in we were informed that during our stay our room wouldn’t be serviced due to staff shortages however we were still charged full price!
The outside door is also locked at 9.30pm.
There is no phone signal and the wifi is virtually useless.
The bar staff are a credit to this place and really try to go the extra mile. One girl in particular with long hair which is purple on the ends, she is truly a gem.
We ate out of the village the second night and arrived back just as the bar was closing (9.45pm) asked if we could purchase a glass of wine to be told no!
We visit the area often but usually stay at the Golden Fleece in tremadog and regretted not booking there this time.

In January and February the sarecens seems to have unpredictable opening due to refurbs and staff holidays so there is every chance the hotel is at least partially shut at the moment.

Heather is right....... over the footbridge and it’s a lovely flat path across the fields. Alternatively, there is another route that runs parallel that takes you to the lake
