We visited this on our tour of Snowdonia, personally I was surprised how large a set up it was with the opportunity of ordering evening takeaways, although they had no fish and chips which was strange! It’s basically a site with a small number of large lodges with 2 areas for camping one hard standing and one tent. Space for the hardstanding pitches with electric was great and close to the toilet/washroom facilities. However, it’s here that they do need to put some investment; it’s a bit like going back to school or think municipal shower blocks, this sadly lets the whole site down. There is a small shop that contains some provisions but basically just fry up essentials so we ended up having to drive into town to the general store which was far more equipped. There’s quite a lot of falling acorns which can sound like a rocket on a tin roof at night but it’s a nice atmosphere with spacious pitches.

Fantastic for walking, we walked up to moel hebog direct from the campsite - 6 hours return (I’m slow) and obviously the hill
train which sadly was on a reduced service so didn’t stop at the station in the campsite might have been fun. With a little bit of investment to bring this up to modern day standards on the washroom facilities this could’ve been top-notch certainly for location and walking routes it is perfect as you don’t really need to drive anywhere once arrived. Shout out to the friendly maintenance crew who loaned us a mallet.

Beautiful site in a lovely location. The shop is relatively well stocked and has basic needs. The bake house pizza was AMAZING! We couldn’t get pizza in Beddgelert so came back and got it from the bakehouse. I’d read reviews about ordering ahead but we struggled to find a number for the bakehouse when in Beddgelert. The number I rang online turned out to be the main phone number and the person who answered didn’t seem happy I’d had got through to them. I highlighted that there was no phone number anywhere for the bakehouse so I didn’t have much option (here’s the number for those that need it 01766 890370).

There is a lovely walk to Beddgelert which took around 30 minutes.

The toilets and showers were an incredible disappointment. They were like school/swimming bath facilities. The wooden bits of the wall were mouldy and the men’s toilet had a heater on (in July). The shower temperature was not changeable and required a push button every 30 seconds or so. I wore flip flops in the shower and tried to touch as little as possible (including the shower curtain). Having stayed the previous night on such a stunningly clean site, this was a real let down. The location of the site would make me consider it again, but the toilets/showers would make me not want to go.

I've always heard good things about this site, unfortunately we left disappointed. Shop and cafe area are spotless but we stayed on one of the hard standing pitches and considering they are not cheap and it's been shut for 13 weeks the whole area is shabby and run down , it's such a shame as the staff and location are great.. we got the feeling that the new cabins are the main priority and the camping and hard standing areas are no longer wanted.. I wouldn't be surprised if the site becomes just cabinings in the future...

Stayed for 5 nights (solo) on a hard standing pitch - I didn't find a flat one and don't carry levelling blocks as I have a small van...first time ever to have this problem with a description of "hard standing" .

The water temperature and water flow in the ladies shower block was ridiculously unpredicatable. The shower head is at fixed height with no way to control temperature or water flow - push button option delivers a different suprise EACH PUSH! There is a sign that warns about hot water...but nothing to say that it starts cool, turns boiling hot and then calms down a bit before a totally different sequence of events with the next push of the button. If there is anyone else using one of the otehr showers at the same time you'll be lucky to get any water at all.

£30 per night for solo camping was expensive given the facilities.

The highlight of the trip was the wonderful member of staff Frank. Chatty, friendly and helpful. Went out of his way to help me with an issue even though it wasn't campsite/facility related. Top service.

Stayed for a few days after my wedding as a mini honeymoon in our camper on a Gravel Pitch with hookup.

The site is fantastically located in Snowdonia, near Snowdon, Poertmeirrion and Porthmadog. The pitches are nestled into the woodland around a track and pretty close to flat for the most part. It was really peaceful, you could hear the stream running behind the pitches and not much else.

Facilities in the camping area were a little old but clean and serviceable despite it being a bit of a wet week. Showers had a good array of shelves/hooks for storing your cloths on while showering.

By reception there was a shop which had all the essentials and the bakehouse which provided hot cooked food.

The bakehouse saved us one night, we'd walked 40 minutes down the paths to the village and found 2 pubs open, neither serving food. They took an phone order and offered to stay late so we could get something to eat.

Overall I cannot really fault the site.
We didn't use bike hire or anything as we had a busy week planned but based on the rest of the experience I'd expect service to be good.

What a great site! We stayed in a tent over the bank holiday weekend with our 3 year old and 1 year old who both loved it here. The camp site is in the loop of a river which is just lovely and if you camp close to the edge then the river acts perfectly as white noise. Plenty of sheep and little lambs roaming free and a few areas along the river banks where you can climb down and dip your toes into the water or skim stones. Also lots of picnic benches which was handy as we didn’t have room for a table/ chairs in the end.
The bakehouse on site was a real bonus and we thoroughly enjoyed our last minute pizza order on the first night as our camping stove gave up the ghost!
We didn’t have a chance to rent bikes in the end but there were a couple of family friendly bike trails we would like to come back and do. Lovely forest walk just opposite the main entrance to the site with loads of dens, tree swings etc as well as a bridge on which we introduced our little ones to Pooh sticks!
Main Toilets/ showers are a little walk away (5 mins) but this really wasn’t an issue for us as we took a portable potty for our toddler. A few reviews highlighted that the facilities are below standard - not our experience at all. They are perhaps a little dated but very clean and functional with baby changing facilities. As was the little toilet up by the shop (also with baby changing facilities) which we ended up using more frequently than the main facilities as it is a bit closer.
All in all, we really enjoyed our time at this site and hope to return in the future.

Having hired a motor camper for our hiking holiday in North Wales this was the first site we used for our visit. A lovely scenic campsite set in and around the wooded Snowdonia areas. The site caters for Tents, campers and caravans with a few permanent lodges available too. Some of the pitches we not that level so, some chocks and ramps will be required to try and level off your camper, unfortunately for us, our first night pitch wasn’t that level and we didn’t have enough ramps to level off so an uncomfortable first night sleep after a 6hr drive from the South. We day ran for a couple of days and was told that you could not reserve your pitch, though plenty of other campers did by leaving various items of their camping gear on the best pitches they acquired on their initial visit. Our second pitch was more accommodating and the ramps we had were sufficient to level us. The site has just opened a new shower/Toilet facility which was very clean and modern but the water temperature wasn’t that warm when we used the showers. The grey waste disposal wasn’t the easiest to use with our camper so did not use.
Facilities available on site are shop, self service laundry and they have a bakery/ hot food service which opens in the evening at 1800 for pre ordered food from the previous night. You can arrange for some food if ordered in good time. Food service stops around 2000 on the campsite. The local Beddgelert village is very nice and has a variety of pubs, restaurants, café’s etc, but be advised, that pretty much all the restaurants stop serving food from around 1930-1945. 😞😞. There is a main Sherpa bus stop route right outside the campsite that can take you to various Snowdon climbing sites, Rhyd-Ddu and Snowdon Ranger were 10mins away. There’s even the Welsh highlands railway service that passes through which can take you to a variety of places. Would I use again, yes, would I recommend, yes.

This is a really nice site in an excellent location.
We stayed in our Motorhome, and this review is purely based on our experience, the gravel pitch was flat and well spaced out from the neighbour’s.
Had some excellent Pizzas from the bake house, and Jayne the order taker is lovely.
The free Wi-Fi works great, much better than on a lot of other sites.
Although we didn’t use them the pot wash and laundry room looked good.
Chemical toilet disposal is very well set out.
So why not 5 stars? 2 things; the shower block needs updating, and maybe another water point on the other side of the site would be useful.

Great location however the pitch that we got wasn’t flat. Toilets were open through out the day/night hence not sure how often cleaning was done. Other campers park their cars recklessly making it difficult to drive through with a Motorhome/ caravan. Staff were great and had good local area knowledge.

As a returning customers we were so disappointed. In September 2019 we paid £15 per night ( hard standing pitch) , we decided to visit again now, so i tried to book online, which didn't work, so i called the site and been told price is £25 per night as march is their summer time?! When we arrived the price was actually £30! Charging £5 a night for a 1 year old! No price list online either!

There is huge pot holes in roads around campsite. That need some attention asap!

The food- the first time in 2019 we had the best juices burger- just amazing! I was exited to order again, so we did. What a mistake!!!! Burned chips with dry, overcooked, plain burger ! No toppings! Just bun, burger & slice of tomato. Are you kidding me?! It was horrid. Nothing like the food we had before.
Wifi is basically none existent.

We had to cut our stay short due to family emergency , so when asked if we would be able to get refund, the manager called me after 2 hours of waiting just to be arrogant and tell me : you cant get a refund -OKAAAAY?!
Will not be coming back. 👎🏻

Does the train run seasonally? Is this affected by new year? Thanks
Answer from Stuart

Welsh Highland trains to Porthmadog and Caernarfon run at February half-term week (15-23 February) and then run daily (apart from a few Fridays) from the beginning of April to end of October. At new year, the trains only run from Rhyd Ddu to Caernarfon, and also from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog. All trains are steam-hauled, it's a lovely ride. See their website (search for festrail timetable whr) for more information

No idea on tv reception. Takeaway as quoted below. We had pizzas which were nice, a 12 inch was about £12 “Our Bakehouse opens each evening and offers a tasty takeaway selection of hand stretched pizzas, curries, burgers and sides which can be ordered and collected. You can even watch the team stretching and making your pizzas!”

£25 for our tent per night, but if you type it in web site how big your tent is etc it gives you the price.
Molg123 asked a question Jul 2016
Are groups allowed to stay over?
Answer from Lieselbee
Chester, United Kingdom105 contributions85 helpful votes
Having stayed there several times now, I have seen many groups staying on the site. When you arrive you get to select the site that you want so if you would like to be together rather than split around the site then arrive early. Provided the noise level is not too high late in the evening, then staying there should not be a problem. This is because many families stay on the site.
