This guest house is a favourite however when we wanted to go again in November it was closed due to holiday of the proprietor who very kindly recommended the B & B opposite (The Grange Guest House) which was equally as good. Like the Grange ground floor accommodation suitable for the less able-bodies. Borderers is most welcoming, excellent breakfast, clean, well serviced & most friendly in the right area for all amenities.

The is the loveliest B&B I have stayed in for years. Locally sourced produce for a perfect breakfast served with the freshest of juices and the warmest and most caring host you could hope for. Gail was keen to tailor our weekend with the finest of recommendations for both outdoor activities and food. The bed was super comfortable and the exquisitely selected paintings and furniture were a delight in themselves. I've already planned an Easter break as this is a rare find. Absolute gem. There is plenty of road side parking directly opposite and if you happen to have a car small enough to fit through the wonderful 17th Century Coaching house gates, you may even have your own private car park! FABULOUS!!!!

The atmospheric Borderers Guest House is central to lovely Brecon which is a perfect town for a short break (although it is officially a city as it has a beautiful Cathedral - a St David's Cathedral in miniature). You're sure of a very warm welcome from Gail and Kevin. They are the perfect hosts. Friendly, helpful and know how to put guests at their ease. We had a lovely stay there in private separate room and a very comfy super king bed. Good breakfast provided and Gail went out of her way to get the perfect yoghurt for me! Special mention to the Brecon Mountain Railway, canal walks and boat trips, a book shop that has to be entered to be believed and, of course, the beautiful Cathedral and grounds. A perfect stay. Thank you Gail and Kevin.

What a lucky find! We went on a last minute trip to Brecon without booking to stay, and managed to get in here. The building is 365 years old! We had the last room available, it had a view over the hills in the distance and was very quiet. The bathroom was new and everything was super clean. The owners are very welcoming and their cute dog trix is adorable. Thank you Gail and Gavin, we had a great time and thank you for booking us in for the jazz!!!

Disappointed given the reviews Rubbish found under bed / generally dusty - didn’t look like the carpet had been hoovered on arrival Hair found in eggs on first day therefore unable to finish Towels seemed old and bleach stained Clothing felt damp after being in the room Fabric headboards needs serious attention as there seemed to be many people who have put their heads on it - general feeling of being unhygienic Caught a glimpse of the laundry room clearly unorganised and needing a lot of TLC Shame as there is so much more potential to the place.

Dear Tez, I am so sorry you were this disappointed with your experience here. As i said in my response to your friend Patricia's review from Sunday 2nd September (who you shared the room with), If I had any inkling at all that you you were so unhappy, I would have cancelled your booking free of charge and found you other accommodation straight away. Alternately, had you told me during your stay, I would have rectified the issues immediately. I will make sure extra checks are performed so this never happens in the future. It doesn't matter that you arrived last. I will make sure i mention this to all future guests. Our towels are steel grey and never bleached. Because bleach is devastating to the natural world and bleach residue can be absorbed by human skin, we do not use it often, and only to remove the most stubborn of stains on white linen. I am unaware of any of our towels having bleach stains, I will examine them very carefully immediately and dispose of any marked ones. Nobody has mentioned a smell of damp before, but structures shift and as mentioned in my response to Paricia's review, We have already begun using dehumidifiers to test humidity and have booked in a surveyor to look at the structure of the room you stayed in. I do not understand the comment about damp clothes. Did you try to dry them on the towel rail? As it has been so hot the heating has been off. If you had told me about this, I would have been happy to pop them in the dryer for you. I have taken your comment regarding fabric headboards seriously and will be changing them to wooden ones as soon as possible. We always vaccume the rooms after guests leave. and I made sure to check under the beds after recieving your review. I did not find anything. If you picked it up, I am grateful, but please could you tell me what it was? It will help going forward. If you had mentioned your dissatisfaction with breakfast, I would have been more than happy to bring you fresh plates of food. Or at least apologise in person. We will perform extra checks on all plates we send out in future to ensure this never happens again. The laundry is one of my few private spaces at home, I will be sure to keep the door locked in future. Reviews like these are the a great way for a small business like ours to improve. So thank you for leaving it. Regards, Gail

Stayed at The Borderers for 3 nights it was a return visit for us as we enjoyed our stay last time. Gail the owner is lovely and serves a great breakfast that sets you up for the day. Secure parking for our Motorcycle is a great touch. There is tea and coffee in the room and fresh milk is proved for this. The room has a hairdryer and shower gel and soap is also provided. A great place to stay we will definately be returning

We stayed at the borderers for two wonderful peaceful nights! The car park and its entrance really is as challenging as they discribe, but as we knew in advance, and there is plenty of parking nearby, it was no problem for us. The veggie breakfast was perfect- the eggs are local and they are simply beautiful and oh those Glamorgan sausages! We stayed upstairs in the oldest (and haunted) part of the Bnb, but sadly, no spectres disturbed our sleep. I’m actually very glad I called before booking, because Gail helped me book the perfect room for our needs. We just wanted a double room, they have three and we were drawn to the one with exposed beams in the ceiling, but the smallest double, facing the courtyard gave us the peace and quiet we really needed.

Stayed at this B&B due to its excellent reviews. However what we found did not match the reviews at all. It was not very clean when you looked behind the doors. The beds had waterproof mattresses on them which made you sweat. Bedlinen had lots of old stains. The place has a smell of dampness perhaps due to its age. There was no sugar or milk for the tea and coffee. Gail the owner speaks a lot and tells you about all her other jobs so is loosing track of this place. The breakfast in included but a hair in the scrambled egg and fried egg this morning was unrecognisable. The location is great

Dear Patricia, I am so sorry you were this disappointed with your experience here. If I had any inkling at all that you you were so unhappy with your room, I would have cancelled your booking free of charge and found you alternate accommodation straight away. Alternately, had you told me during your stay, I would have rectified the issues immediately. I will make sure extra checks are performed so this never happens in the future. I will make sure I let future guests know that the waterproof liners are removable, if they find them uncomfortable. We try to run our bnb in as eco-friendly a manner as possible, so we do not put little plastic pots of HTC milk on the tea trays. We do provide fresh milk upon request to reduce food waste. Every individual has unique requirements, In order to ensure our guests have all they need during their stay, I make sure they know they can contact me directly when they need anything. I mention my other job at check in, to make guests aware that i am not always able to immediately answer a phone call between 10:30 am and 4 pm, but that i can respond to texts quicker. Thank you for mentioning the smell of damp, i haven't noticed it myself, and nobody else has. I will bring dehumidifiers in. If you had mentioned your dissatisfaction with breakfast, I would have been more than happy to bring you fresh plates of food. Detailed reviews like these are the a great way small businesses like ours can improve, so thank you for taking the time to leave this. Regards, Gail

Me and my wife came here for a quiet 2 days away, happy to chill out by ourselves untill we met the host of the borderers - Gail. She's a lovely lady, full of help and goes beyond to make yourself have a great stay. The place was lovely, great location, good breakfast but if we stayed in Brecon again we'd come back here because of Gail. I didn't realise that the name Gail is from the Bible, in Hebrew meaning Joy and her name is very befitting. Thank you Gail and the lovely staff.
