We have attended the New Years Eve Gala many times in previous years, and were always wowed by the standard. We have not been able to attend for the past 2 years so we were really excited to be attending to see in 2020 in style. However we were sadly disappointed in the standard of this year's Gala. Cost cutting was evident in all fronts. The meal served it's self was of a good standard however the event was no longer black tie which made it less special. In previous years the welcome to the Gala was made all the more special by touches such as a chocolate fountain and canapés and a bag piper, however these were sadly missing this year. The event was touched with an element of mean spritedness when it was announced that glasses of sparkling wine previously complimentary served at midnight (at other functions in other hotels that I have attended as well as the Village) would be sold at the bar for five pounds a glass! Better not to have mentioned this at all I thought if it wasn't to be complimentary. The standard of our basic allocated room also not worth the 115 paid. Although generally clean decor was very dark and gloomy and pillows like rocks! All in all the staff were polite and the atmosphere in event was generally good but I think our misfortune was to have had prior knowledge of how exellent the previous years have been and how the event and hotel has gone downhill since. Sadly we will not be booking again.

We had a two night stay here (Autumn deal) which included breakfast and £40 to spend on food.

We booked a club room, the bed huge and so comfy, the shower was probably one of the best and the tv was massive. The size of room isn’t great and the view from our room was of a brick wall and flat roof.

The restaurant is obviously operating on a much smaller scale and finding a table can be hard. Our £40 food credit was to be used on our first night (Friday) but they had no tables available so we were allowed to use on the Saturday night. The menu is pretty limited but the burgers are very nice and the portions are very generous. At the minute a table is only booked out for 90 mins which is a bit limited if you would like to have food and drinks or watch the sports.

The pool looked lovely but we didn’t use, maybe next time.

Our parking was free, it’s free on weekends but I also believe this is part of the club room.

Breakfast was ok... the sausage and bacon were nice but the scrambled eggs was disgusting and a funny looking grey-ish colour. We ate here one of our mornings but got McDonald’s on our last morning.

Overall it’s nice enough for what we paid (£180 fri & sat night with breakfast and £40 food credit)

Stayed Saturday and Sunday night with a friend. On arrival we were told our room had been changed due to a radiator fault but we were upgraded to a family room with a giant bed and huge shower so we were happy. The breakfasts are great - big portions and good choice; the chef was chatty and the waiter in white shirt with the foot boot on was lovely, taking care to chat to everyone. The pool and sauna was busy but all working and kept clean by staff. Room was hot despite the fan and the restaurant at night was unbearably hot which made waiting for our dinner a struggle.once food arrived it was tasty but the process eg it’s not table service should be made clearer. Lots of parking on site and just a mile down the road is Asda McDonald’s and a fuel stop. Turning right out of the car park there’s a bus stop down the hill which has regular buses for £3 odd return into Cardiff city centre (easily every hour even on Sundays) - we used buses but even a late night taxi was only £15 from city centre back to hotel. Turn left from the hotel and follow taff trail to see local castle walking under all the roads which is quite peaceful. If you want a good value clean hotel with staff who were all helpful and cheerful do check out here

Not a great stay, despite staff’s best efforts! My wife was slightly perturbed to be met at reception by a man dressed as a burger but I get he was trying to come across as a family friendly guy, I’m not sure it worked though.
The 2 rooms we booked on the 1st floor were adequate but the shower pressure was poor and the coffee spoons were dirty. The noise from the disco below would have disturbed others, not sure I would book here if you were looking for a relaxed, peaceful sleep, although it luckily stopped at midnight, I’d defy anyone to sleep before that.
The swimming pool and spa were great and my 12 yr old daughter enjoyed them although my wife was disappointed that she had to supervise her in the pool (she swims much better than me) however, it was clearly a Health & Safety policy so I thought it was fair enough.
Those are all the ‘positives’ so let me explain where it went so horribly wrong…in short the restaurant!
To be fair this wouldn’t be our usual fare and expectations of a predominantly ‘burger’ restaurant weren’t high but one would still expect a reasonable standard of service. Firstly my wife was served my medium steak, whilst I was given her well done one, she had already poured her sauce over it before we realised the waitress’s mistake. The wine menu was limited by ‘supply issues’ but I was happy with what I eventually chose although for what it was, it was overpriced.
We ordered coffee and desserts and things went further downhill when they couldn’t give me an espresso but could only offer a bland, tasteless black Americano, however when they brought my toffee pudding and ice cream without a spoon (sorry, we’ve run out of spoons, will a fork do?) we did start to question where we were eating? The poor waitress seemed genuinely confused when I suggested she might want to clear the main course dishes before serving dessert.
I gently pointed out the glaringly obvious to the restaurant manager when she asked about our experience and suggested better training rather than admonishment for her staff was clearly required. To her credit she took onboard (I think) to what I had said and was keen to offer a discount on our hotel room (this turned out to be £10 off a £130 meal)
If management read this, as an experienced executive within the hospitality industry, I would say you have genuinely great staff who are friendly and caring and keen to provide a great customer experience but it was apparent that they need better training and greater support from those above to be able to deliver what is required.
The hotel seems to operate for the benefit of locals who seem to use the place as their leisure and fitness centre at the expensive of the hotel guests.it’s clearly trying to compete with the Holiday Inn level of hospitality but it needs to improve in many areas to achieve this. Sadly, we will not be repeating this accommodation again.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback your experience with us. We are disappointed to hear your wife was affected by our team trying to engage with kids and families in a fun way, following the re-launch of one of our most requested promotions in Food & Beverage over the years, this was something we did get very excited about, so I apologise it was not to your personal taste. We do apologise for the disruption experienced from our event, we do really try and allocate any rooms attending the event above the space, and then we also allocate family rooms furthest away, however when all family rooms are sold, it is on a first come first serve basis in terms of where this room would be. We do take the safety of children very seriously and with such a large pool you can appreciate why we ask parents to take responsibility in supervising their children during swim sessions, we have lifeguards on duty also but we do respectfully ask parents to supervise their children. We would like to assure you that we working closely with the F&B team following your feedback specifically, and we appreciate the time taken to write this review. We do hope you will give us another chance in the future, and allow us the opportunity to restore your faith in Village Cardiff, as we have an incredible team here, who are working so hard to deliver during such challenging times, we have some work to do in this aspect, but we are moving forward as quickly as possible.

We booked the New Year's Eve 4 course meal and dancing at the Inspiration Suite which was extremely disappointing. In past years it has been a black tie event but sadly the dress code is now "smart/casual" but unfortunately jeans and trainers were being worn by some people. We have attended this event on a number of occasions in the past and there has been a reception of prosecco, canapes, a chocolate fountain and a bagpiper which made it feel really special. This year we only had a glass of prosecco. Also after midnight they used to serve free bacon rolls from the bar but again not this year. If we wanted a glass of prosecco at midnight they were charging £5 per glass. Having said all that the food served during the meal was of a good standard. The entertainment was not the best with very poor quality sound from the singer's backing track and went on for too long. The DJ was better. The hotel itself has also gone downhill since our last stay. The only bar is now a sports bar with large TV's showing various sports which not everyone wants to see. You can no longer go for a quiet drink with family and friends without the intrusion of these screens. . The hotel itself is not the standard it was. We booked an overnight stay and the room was tired with drafty ill fitting windows which let in the noise of the traffic. Also the lift was out of order. All in all a very disappointing stay and we will not be returning unless the standards rise dramatically.

and trainers

I stayed in this hotel between 13-14 January as a critical worker in the height of the new varient pandemic. The staff are helpful and communicate efficiently and the check in process was seamless.

I stayed in a Club room which consist of a large Samsung TV, shower, iron, hairdryer and walk in shower. TV channels are through a sky box however you can't watch HD channels.

Towels were provided for both days in a secure bag and left on the bed.

Hand sanitisers placed next to all lifts and NHS QR code placed inside each lift.

Evening dinner is £18 with limited menu. I had it one night and I wouldn't say its worth the money so I ordered an Uber Eats on day 2 with plenty of choices and was more than satisfied with good choices from restaurants in the Cardiff area.

Overall a satisfied guest, it was my first village hotel stay and would not hesitate to use them again in other parts of the country.

The staff are really good and nice but struggling with covid limitations and customer expectations.
The hotel has a ton of members from outside using the pool and gym facilities. Often staying to use the bar and eat too.Ringing up to book a pool slot virtually impossible due to sheer numbers using it. You also need to take your own locker padlock which is a first for me in a hotel. No one mentioned it. There are too few staff on hand to help as village seem to rely on apps that don't work so well.
The family rooms are not suitable for families. There is a double and small sofa bed, no single fold out beds like at premier inn. If you have one child it's ok if not, stay elsewhere. Children over 12 are considered adults here and you'll have to get a second room as we had to. It does say this on the web page, and on one it spoke of single beds but it is only the tiny sofa bed.
The breakfast service was stressed and understaffed. You queue up school dinner style for lukewarm scrambled eggs, beans, bacon and sausage with some hot floppy bread they called toast. I could not bring myself to eat the cooked food on the second morning. The alternative is cornflakes, croissant and a yoghurt. Vegetarians are stuffed unless you just want beans on toast. There is no fresh fruit or any fruit for that matter.Tea and coffee is a messy help yourself table. I dont know how much is covid regs controlling kitchen numbers or cost cutting village hotel ways. You do feel like cattle and it's not a nice experience. I feel for the staff.
The rooms are ok but could be cleaner under beds etc. The kettle was burned where the previous guest put coffee powder in it. The lights fused off one morning and a cleaner was on hand to trip it back luckily. The wifi is clunky to say the least. There is no air con and rooms are stuffy but fans are supplied. Depessing view of scaffolding from window too. Staff efforts prevent this review from being one star. I really suggest that you stay with your family at a premier inn or a family friendly place as the village is simply not good enough for the money.

I am currently classed as a key worker and stayed here at the Village Cardiff a few times in September and October. First time in Club room 237 and then Club Room 609.

Both rooms were spotlessly clean and with the huge 65" TV's which are usual in the Club Class rooms. The rooms also have the large walk in showers (although sometimes a bath is just the tonic after a days work! and these are in the normal standard rooms here apparently)

Check in on both occasions was contact free and all covid measures in place. The touch screens used during check-in were sanitised by the receptionist before and after each check-in. Hand sanitiser is available everywhere; in the entrance, outside the lifts, restaurant and in corridors.

Nothing much more to add really other than getting a table in the restaurant was difficult as the hotel was quite busy, full of BT Openreach engineers and British Gas engineers... but room service is available although very basic and you have to go downstairs to collect as they don't actually deliver room service to your room... so it's a takeaway then? :)

We stayed at the Village Hotel Cardiff as a family of 3 for one night over the Aug 20 bank holiday weekend. We booked a Revolution rate which was advertised as free parking and use of the pool & gym.

We checked in at check in time and tried to book at slot to take our 10 month old daughter swimming and was told there were no spaces and we would have to go on a waiting list for a slot the next day after check out time and only one of us would be able to take her in as it would need 2 people to cancel for us both to go in. We were checking out at 11am so we had already left before the waiting list slot they gave us.

The parking was free for all guests on the dates that we stayed so i feel that we got no benefit from the Revolution package and was sold a deal that can't be fulfilled.

We were put in a family room which was a little tired looking but fine for one night. However the room had an interconnecting door which meant that we could hear the guests in the next room. We had to ask reception to call them at night to ask them to keep the noise down as it was waking our baby up.

Overall it wasn't a great experience and we will use an alternative hotel next time we visit family in Cardiff.

My partner and I booked a 2 night stay at the Village hotel, Cardiff and brought our 9 month old baby with us. The staff were very accommodating, they rang us before and made sure that a cot was in the room for both nights (free of charge) and said they would try and give us the bigger room if available. The room was spacious, only being a double but enough room for the travel cot and everything else. The travel cot was excellent and our baby slept very well! Good facilities in the room. We had breakfast both days, very lovely only thing we would say we would have liked hash browns as an option with our breakfast but apart from that it was great. The croissants especially! We went to the pool, they gave us free swim towels and there were particular times we could go for family swims which was lovely. The changing rooms were great especially when trying to dress a baby, had the appropriate changing table and shower within the cubicle. We had dinner one night at the restaurant as it came with our booking to spend £40, very big portion sizes but delicious!! Very clean around the whole hotel. Easy to access into Cardiff, small train journey and the station is only 10 minute walk! Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience here and would definitely recommend.
