The Travelodge Cardiff Whitchurch is a hit for its cleanliness and comfortable rooms, with guests often noting the spotless bathrooms and fresh linens. While the rooms are generally well-received, some visitors have mentioned discomfort with the beds and a feeling that the facilities could use an update. The hotel's location earns praise for its convenience and charm, and the service is largely applauded for being friendly and helpful. However, opinions on value are mixed, with some guests happy about the affordability but less pleased with extra charges for WiFi and issues with bed sizes.

We stayed here for 2 nights recently. On check-in the lady on reception was amazing, really helping my parents with a different room so they wouldn't be disturbed and even helping them up to the room. Every member of staff we encountered was chatty and helpful and I can't thank them enough.

I've been staying here for a night or two for the last year and half, home from home.

In a nut shell, the hotel gets the basics right. The rooms are always clean and comfortable, the staff at reception always greet with a smile and make their guest feel welcome. Tara deserves a special mention in particular, polite and friendly and nothing is too much trouble for her!

As a family, we have often stayed in this lovely Travelodge. But this time, we had 2 rooms - one of which was “accessible” for me as I am disabled.
We had such excellent service and care during our 5 day stay. It’s a nice little hotel in a quieter part of Cardiff (about 20 mins away from the centre of the city). It was dog and family friendly as it is so quiet in Whitchurch.
Upon arrival our rooms were ready and they changed the twin room so my family could be near my accessible room which was very kind and helpful (they are my carers).

Quick tip: firstly, the “accessible room” has a higher toilet and grab rails but it’s with a bath. We rang ahead to check so I could bring my bath board which worked well but if you want a shower, the “accessible rooms” are all with baths.
Also, if you are part of a group or need care, each key fob is different if you are on different floors, so we changed the twin room to my floor so that we would all have the same access to the level I was on. It’s worth checking ahead!

The rooms are basic but very cosy, warm, quiet and spotlessly clean. The twin beds and chair were comfy and the towels big and fluffy.

The Toby Carvery attached to the hotel does a great breakfast and dinner - and they call ”time” at 11pm so it’s very quiet and we had a good sleep every night.

It was also close enough to explore Cardiff by day and we enjoyed every minute.

Massive thanks especially to Tara for being so kind, funny, chatty and helpful. All the staff are lovely but she went above and beyond for us (especially given my disability).

Highly recommended. Thank you.

Driving up to the Travelodge in Whitchurch can make you doubt the wisdom of booking, but persevere and you find the inside is better than the view from the car park with its unkempt bushes and trees. The car pork can fill up but there seems to be road parking nearby.
This is a Travelodge so no surprises, but as with most hotels in this brand in the UK, it offers an inexpensive comfortable room with a clean shower room, with plenty of hot water and soft towels.
There was some noise from the bins outside being filled from the adjoining restaurant as breakfast service began, but most of the night was quiet.
It is a simple couple of miles drive from the M4 on the road which will take you into central Cardiff. There are several restaurants in Whitchurch which is a short walk away.
Good price for a comfortable stop over in a convenient location.

Just booked 2 nights here, location was good. But the hotel needs updating, we booked a double accessible room, the twin beds were no more than camp beds, I think they use these in triple rooms for a child to sleep with parents ! Paid 2 nights for Wifi, cut off after just 1night. Very noisy at the rear of hotel, very early morning , with rubbish being collected & clearing bottles etc from the bar area. We would not choose this hotel agsin, we have had better service from Travelodge at Cardiff Bay. There are 2 other Travelodge hotels in the city centre, but we were warned by friends to avoid these, due to late night noise from entertainment venues close by. So this time we were disappointed with our stay in many ways 😕

I don't need much from a hotel, and that's what I got. No fault of anyone's, but the whole place feels (in estate agent vernacular) a bit 'tired', despite what looked like fairly recent silicone around the edges. The room smelt slightly on arrival (a bit mothbally) but once aired with the window open for a bit, was fine. The bed was comfy, the room was clean and the view was lovely (top floor, no lift - worth remarking on for those with heavy luggage/reduced mobility). No soap in the dispensers (basin and shower), only two tea bags/milk for two cups. The water pressure in the shower was great, almost too good. This is the one thing I think which could be improved: my nose (of average size, although my daughter might beg to differ!) practically touched the shower curtain and it was impossible to prevent the water from leaking around the edges of it, flooding the floor quite substantially. Another reviewer said the shower was like that on a campsite, but (as a very seasoned camper) I would suggest is less good than many campsite showers... Perhaps sealed screens? Staff were friendly. All fairly reflected in the price.

We were moved to the Whichurch Travelodge due to issues at a different hotel we had booked for the rugby international weekend. Whilst the hotel may not look the most glamorous, we found the staff were fantastic. The lady on reception (apologies we did not get your name) on Sunday late morning, was so efficient and helpful, as soon as our rooms were ready she informed us.
The superior rooms were very clean and had all the basics a long with a coffee machine. The housekeeper Johanna did a great job, we could not fault her attention to detail.
Thank you for a great stay, shame about the rugby result!

During a recent stay, my partner had a painful accident on the staircase up to our room, almost ripping off his toenail and ultimately breaking his toe. The injury caused a lot of bleeding, and we immediately needed first aid. However, when we approached the staff on duty, we were told that they couldn’t find a first aid kit.

The staff member was very apologetic and did what he could to help us, escorting my partner back to our room, but I am deeply concerned that something as basic as a first aid kit was either missing or not easily accessible. First aid resources are essential in public facilities, especially in hotels, where guests often don’t have access to their own medical supplies. A first aid kit could have helped prevent a painful situation from becoming even worse and would have made us feel safer overall.

We appreciate the kindness of the staff on duty, but Travelodge needs to ensure that safety essentials like first aid kits are available and easy to access in all locations. A small but necessary improvement that could make a big difference.

This Travelodge uses Single Beds Disguised as kingsize
We Paid for Kingsize beds but received 2 single beds disguised as Kingsize resulting in a very uncomfortable nights sleep,
Both my wife and myself woke up with backache.
When we asked to change rooms we were told they only had single beds.
Although the staff were nice I will not be returning to this hotel

I enjoyed staying at the Travelodge in Whitchurch and would visit again when in Cardiff. I can recommend it to others as a place to stay when visiting the area. It was reasonably priced and had an adjacent carvery restaurant that served food from 8 am to late in the evening with a bar. There was an ATM across the road at the petrol station. There were also cafes, restaurants, shops and supermarkets to be found in both Whitchurch and Rhiwbina villages which are located only a short distance away ( approximately 10 minutes on foot)...
