Detailed Reviews
We stayed for two nights in this large, modern, corporate-style hotel, convenient for the shops, the Castle and the Museum. There is an unloading bay and a multi-storey NCP immediately opposite (£28.50 for 24 hours, though there is a hotel discount). Public areas are smart, but rather gloomy, with dim lighting. Open fires in the lounge are a nice touch.
Our superior room on the first floor was large, attractively decorated, with plenty of storage, good lighting and an unusually high ceiling. The glass window wall faced trees and a stream and the double-glazing kept our most of the traffic noise. The huge mirror on the wall at the end of the bed was a little disconcerting and the rather dated TV (37”? with no HDMI inputs) was offset to one side and was slightly too far from the bed for convenient viewing. Aircon worked well and there were plenty of sockets and good wifi. The bathroom was large with big mirrors and a powerful shower.
The breakfast/bar area was smart but rather dark and gloomy, in shades of grey and black. Breakfast was good, with a wide buffet selection, though the scrambled egg was invariably congealed.
Staff were all friendly and efficient, particularly on Reception where they really tried to engage. We would probably stay here again as the price was very reasonable.

Room was nice. Staff were friendly. Would have liked more choice of vegetarian or vegan food.
The resting rooms in the Treatment area needs sprucing up and the empty beverage glasses to be cleared away more frequently. The Therapists were good and mine in particular, but the pedicure that my sister in law had wasnt that successful as the varnish took much longer to dry then usual and it stuck to her tights. She paid over £70 for her manicure and pedicure and really the pedicure was a waste of money.
But on the whole we recommend the hotel. Its a great location. The staff on the whole were very friendly as Ive said.

Spent a night here on the Local Lockdown Deal where you can have afternoon tea or dinner bed & breakfast. And it was fab!
The hotel has clearly put a lot of thought into making the experience COVID secure and have executed their plans really well.
We chose the afternoon tea option and it was excellent. Really tasty sandwiches, gorgeous sausage rolls and nice scones, welsh cakes and deserts. I was gutted I couldn’t finish it all!
We also spent a couple of hours in the bar for a few drinks and the ordering via the QR code menu was simple and easy to use.
The rooms were very spacious and bed as a super king size was huge. Cleanliness and sanitisation was clearly top of their minds with labels on lots of items confirming they had been cleaned and the TV remote came in it’s own little bag to give you confidence.
Breakfast was well organised and the options for both continental and cooked breakfast were plentiful and a new experience to be served your food a bit like an American School canteen.
However of most note are the staff, they were super friendly and efficient making sure that guests felt both welcome and secure. They are clearly dealing with our current circumstances incredibly well and a credit to the hotel, great job!

We arrived for a 3pm check in to be told the junior suite room we had booked in May wasn’t ready as it was still being cleaned. We returned at 3.30 to then be told that due to a confusion with housekeeping the room hadn’t been cleaned due to the previous occupants moving rooms which we questioned why. We finally got our room around 4.30 and hour and a half after the 3pm check in. Reception staff didn’t seem that bothered in this delay and were not forthcoming in any offer of a complimentary drink until we asked for one. On night one (Friday night) we came back to our room around 10.30pm to the delight of hearing the banging noise of one of three nightclubs opposite the hotel, this noise went on until around 1pm which is when the front doors close, we then had the noise of the clubbers leaving around 3am. I asked the duty manager if he could look at a room move to the rear of the hotel as we were staying 2 nights, he said he would phone me back but we never ever heard from him again. Clearly the reason why the previous occupants were moved was the noise.
On check out no offer of any reduction in room rate which we asked for on the Friday or apologies for the inconvenience. If you do need to stay there ensure you stay at the rear of the hotel as the rooms on Greyfriars will be very loud especially when the clubs are open, however after staying at several hotels in Cardiff there are better hotels available so do some research before booking.

Dear GCOXFORD We are sorry to see you have not enjoyed your stay with us, from the delay in accessing your room to the noise disturbance. We appreciate that some nights, the adjacent activities of the busy City Centre might cause some disruptions out of our control but nevertheless inconvenient to some of our guests. We are of course very sorry this was the case for yourself on this occasion. Although we are surprised to see that your request to our Duty Manager that night was not followed up as we aim to resolve all problem reported to us as to the best outcome possible. We will investigate this further. Once again we apologise profusely for the disappointment.

The quality of this Park Plaza hotel is evident throughout the building, from stepping in the lounge to the rooms themselves.
Rooms and bathrooms are both clean and the build is quality. The only issue you might find with the rooms is if you are facing the main road, as there is a pub/club opposite which can get noisy if you were staying over for a weekend. Apart from that, hotel staff are great, gym & breakfast facilities are top notch too.

I stayed at the Park Plaza for my 40th Birthday, the Hotel seemed nice enough. However I found that booking swimming pool was a problem as they are fully booked. We were woken up at 1:30am with the sound of the fire alarm. It was real, the hotel was on fire. We got dressed and proceed to get out the hotel. We were staying at the 4th floor and we went to go through the fire exit on the 4th floor and it was stuck and we couldn't get through. We then proceeded to find an alternative fire exit which we found one which led down stairs. As soon as we were in these stairs we started chocking with smoke. We eventually got the ground floor and went to open the fire door and it was stuck (2 fire escapes stuck). I proceeded to get the hell out there and had to force the door open as we were inhaling toxic smoke.
We managed to get out and went into the street and all the fire brigade was there dealing with it. They were giving out water and dressing gowns for people. We were then told to go to the Hilton hotel, however as we were being led by staff they got told off by fire crew because it was right past the fire, they were trying to put us in danger. We had to do a loop around the block to the Hilton, we stayed here for 3 hours and no explanation of putting us in a hotel room at another hotel was not available we just had to lump it. Around 4;30am in the morning we then got told we can go back which was a lie, because the manager of the hotel wanted us to go back but the Fire Officer said it was not safe yet and had to wait until he gave it the all clear. We eventually proceed to go back in being escorted buy fire crew, to our 4th floor you could smell toxic smoke and on the 4th floor it was like they had a water feature pouring from the ceiling flooding the 4th floor. Our room was lucky enough safe from the water damage.
We then went in to get straight asleep. The extended the breakfast until 12:00 based on what had happened. The next day everything was flooded including our neighbour room. We had no power and there was lots of special vacuums for hoovering the water up. It was all still pouring down the ceiling which we got wet. We then went to reception to complain and they said they would only refund the night in question. I mentioned about the fire doors stuck they didn't care they had some sort of attitude problem like how dare I even question this and wanted to get rid of me.
Then they moved us to a different room, which was half the size and the bed was smaller. I paid for a very large double bed which was really comfy before, now we are left with a small and uncomfortable bed and small room. Bare in mind this is my 40th Birthday I would never forget. I complained about this and they said it was the same cost for the small. In the checkout with me complaining they knocked off £10 per night for the inconvenience.
If you care about health and safety do not go to this hotel.

Dear Kiel, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback based on the unfortunate event we had experienced last week when a fire broke out on the 7th floor of the apartment block above the hotel. I was concerned to read of your comment with reference to our evacuation procedures. Rest assured we have fire escape route installed behind the door in each guest room indicating the staircases for fire exit clearly. The one that you proceeded to would be the Refuge Point as it is the priority access for mobility impaired guests who will be protected and taken care of by our staff using urgent access with the fire service lift. Our overnight team and colleagues who were still at the hotel premises after their shift did their very best to ensure of our guests' safety by going to the guest floors, knocking on each door to ensure everyone left the rooms for the assembly point at once for safety, and thankfully, no-one was injured. I am sure you will appreciate with such an incident the authorities take over the scene and take complete control so if the manager was giving a communication that would have to come directly from the authorities. You have rightly pointed out that the water damage to our rooms on our 4th floors caused the power suspension as the Fire Brigade had to use a lot of water to put out the fire. We later identified a great number of rooms out of bounds for accommodation safely as soon as our Maintenance team returned to scene after the evacuation, whilst our Reservations and Reception team were working around the clock to relocate our guests to the most desirable rooms to continue their stay should they wish to. We proceeded the full refund on the room night of the 31st of July as a gesture of goodwill in the event of inconvenience caused, which was very much appreciated with praise on our handling by other guests upon Check-Out the following day, and we are very overwhelmed to read there's so much support on the social media platforms for this unfortunate event. We are sorry that your 40th birthday celebration did not go well as planned, and I am grateful to see that all our guests returned home safe and sound after checking out from the hotel. Thank you once again for your review and I wish you good health. Kind regards, Kamen Hughes Front Office Manager

AVOID!!! Don't be fooled by the fancy looking pictures or the Spa! Located opposite a huge Multi-story car park that you can park there for a small amount of £21 per 24 hours! Arrived early and couldn't check in until 3pm cause they prioritise the rooms to be cleaned before guests arrive. Finally got into our room, to find hairs on the toilet seat and in the bath. Room wasn't cleaned properly. Considering we are in a pandemic and health and safety should be at its best to find hairs on the toilet and in the bath is abit disgusting in my mind. Spoke to the Duty manager about this but he was un apologetic and uninterested. We were offered a drink in the bar which we declined as we didn't want ro spend any more time in the hotel that we didn't have to. Had to chase up each day about room service as on two occasions we came back to the room from being out all day to find the room wasn't cleaned and towels not replaced. Again staff not interested or at all bothered that this was annoying us. We parked the car in a car park the other side of town because it was 60% cheaper than the NCP car park that the hotel suggests! Two night clubs opposite the hotel to which if you don't like sleeping then this hotel will work for you! My partner couldn't sleep which ruined the days because we were both knackered from hearing people shouting in the streets and the music. Wouldn't stay here again. I want a full refund but as expected impossible from staff members that literally couldn't care less about the customer. As soon as you pay your hotel room when you arrive they have got there money and no longer care about your stay. Seriously avoid!!!

Firstly, I would like to apologise for the disappointment you experienced on this occasion and thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback. We have revised our cleaning procedures and included additional protocol to adhere to government guidelines, our lapse on this occasion and your feedback has been shared with our housekeeping team. Our check-in time is from 3pm and we aim to have as many rooms ready for our guests as possible. This in turn means that guests that are staying with us for more than one night and may wish to have a leisurely start to the day will not be disturbed until later in the day. Again, we are very sorry that the noise from the adjacent activities of the city centre have disturbed your sleep. We are regularly in contact with the local council to report noise levels and communicate any ongoing issues. Unfortunately, we do not have a parking facility on site. However, we do offer 25% discount for the NCP carpark across the road as it is the most convenient. We hope you reconsider staying with us again and please do inform the Reservation Team on your next booking of your preference for a quieter room and we will make sure to allocate the most suitable available room.

We chose to stay here as my wife had a work event taking place in the Laguna Restaurant of the hotel and we had a few Radisson Reward points available which helped to reduce the cost of the room, making it a decent price for a central hotel on a Friday night. It is also well located for the city centre and it isn’t too far to walk anywhere in town.
Check-in was quite slow, although we were checking in at a peak time around 4.30pm, so possibly I am being harsh. Then when we did get to check in, we were asked to pay an amount which was about 15% more than our reservation confirmation showed, so we questioned it and then had to wait while the receptionist queried it with the reservations team, then we had to forward our confirmation email to the reservations team and wait some more, until they agreed that our email confirmation was correct and that was the amount we should be charged. I’ve never come across anything like it anywhere else!
Our room was a decent size, as was the bed (although the television was small given the size of the room) and given the room faced the street it was relatively quiet (but only once the party people moved on around 3am)! The wardrobe was a very good size, the safe well positioned and there was a bottle of chilled water (in a refillable bottle - all good for the environment) in the fridge. The bathroom was not exceptional, but perfectly acceptable.
Service in the Laguna Restaurant turned out to be below par, as some items didn’t arrive at the table until forty minutes after being ordered.
We had decided not to have breakfast at the hotel and came back to pick up our bags at 11.50am, only to discover we couldn’t access our room (check out, we were clearly told, was 12pm), so we had to go all the way back to reception to get a new key (waiting while a group of people tried to check in early), to go all the way back upstairs only to discover that the new key still didn’t work, so we had to go down again! This time they set the key to only expire at 1pm so it did, finally, work.
We didn’t use the spa or the gym, but the pictures on the website make it look good, so that may sway some.
For the correct price I would say staying here is probably fine for most people, especially if the problems we had do not happen to you, but I’m afraid we will not be rushing back any time soon.

Dear MrHandBaggageOnly, Thank you so much for your detailed feedback, it is most welcomed. We are always looking at ways to better ourselves and we will make sure your comments are shared with the team and improvements are made where possible. We are sorry to have not been able to impress you from the check-in due to a discrepancy on your booking; although we have tried our best to resolve this issue with minimal fuss, we appreciate this was not a smooth experience and we apologise for it. Your comments over the waiting time on food have also been shared with our team to investigate further and ensure we learn from any mistakes. We always aim to impress all of our guests with our facilities and services and we have clearly failed in our attempt this time, but we really hope you give us another chance to shine in the near future. Once again, I would like to thank you for providing us with the feedback we need to grow as a company. Kind regards

Booked a luxury overnight festive break, arrived early and our room was ready for us. Enjoyed a festive afternoon tea for lunch and an early supper which was part of the deal. Due to Wales covid restrictions no alcohol can be served in the restaurant/bar but you could have it on room service. Excellent breakfast was served as well.
The rooms were spotless and all Covid measures were in place within all areas of the hotel we felt very safe.
All staff were extremely friendly and helpful and we look forward to visiting again soon.

My wife and I spent a long weekend staying here and would definitely return.
The hotel is clean, friendly and has a good gym and fair sized swimming pool. (20m). Our room was overlooking a small river and some trees to the rear of the hotel which made it very quiet. Note though that the front overlooks a main bus terminus so I can't comment on how quite all the rooms are.
Ideally located on the edge of the town center between the shops, castle and cultural quarter almost everything is with easy walking distance.
We risked the hotel restaurant on the last night and were very pleasantly surprised. Excellent food, drinks and service. I'll post a separate review of the Laguna.
Parking opposite the hotel is quite pricy at £28/day but reception can validate your ticket when you're ready to leave for a 25% discount.

Yes we stayed in the standard room and had access to all facilities.
Even when we checked out the next day, they still allowed us to use the facilities until our departure.
Sorry
Try contacting the hotel directly as we did not try any Netflix
