Initially in an executive room, good size but bathroom sink not draining well, poor finish to room, breakfast minimal options with poor service and finish, room heating terrible, freezing despite being at maximum thermostat temperature, tv pointless as so old, slow and could only see it partially due to poor room placement. Then swimming pool temperature also shockingly cold. All concerns reported to front desk, who upgraded us to junior suite (really not worth it as appeared exactly like previous room, with still poor functioning heating, although sink worked). Regarding swimming pool, at least 5 different hotel/leisure team staff members offered different explanations from ‘there’s no problem’ to ‘there’s a problem with the boiler and so yes it’s very cold’, including being told that no one else had complained about the pool, despite us witnessing everyone leaving the pool on attempting to enter and the aqua aerobics class members complaining to the instructor who also acknowledged the faulty temperature.. We specifically booked this hotel for its pool access and I was unable to use it following the first use due to the temperature, which was hugely frustrating considering the cost of the stay. If the temperature had been more pleasant then in fact the pool is aesthetically very appealing and a good length with plenty of loungers, and otherwise the hotel is in a good location, walking distance to all attractions. Although plenty of other hotels in the area (perhaps without pool, but if this hotel doesn’t offer a heated pool that functions then do consider other hotels without pools) and they also have onsite, safe care parking.

Hotel's Favourite
We were gifted one night stay by a family member for my birthday. While in Cardiff we had a few plans and the location of this hotel is amazing. So much nearby that ultimately you couldn't be unhappy. There are bars and restaurants just over the road but despite this the noise was contained. Upon entering the hotel we needed to leave bags as we arrived earlier than check in time, this wasn't an issue. Upon return and entering our room a balloon, birthday card and birthday cake was left for our arrival. Such a lovely touch. The facilities were great. The bed was comfy. Personally the pillows were a little soft for me but that's a minor gripe. The only thing I can find fault with is how noisy the door shut and that there was a door stopper behind the door which was where the toilet was located but this meant I stubbed my toe on it twice. The toilet was just tucked behind the door so if was in the way slightly. We didn't use the spa facilities but I can imagine it was amazing. The breakfast we did have and all products were fab quality. Coffee was delivered to the table and not as warm as I would have liked but again that's just me being fussy. Reception found me a box to take the cake home, they were just so accommodating. A real amazing stay. Thankyou

Arrival and check-in was excellent with helpful friendly staff and room was spacious and comfortable. Off to a great start. We then booked in for dinner which was so disappointing. My vegetarian wellington eas not cooked properly - soggy pastry and frankly without taste. The roast potatoes had such a thick coating they bounced off the plate. The Black Forest gateau however was delicious. We returned to our room after paying the bill and then were called about half an hour later to say we hadn’t paid. After a bit of discussion it transpired it wasn’t us but the couple who were seated next to us. How embarrassing for the hotel and very unprofessional The next morning we went down for breakfast which was also disappointing. We stood for quite a while before being seated and then were brought to a table which wasn’t cleaned or ready. We had to ask twice for coffee and when we went up for hot food one of the servers was very rude. The food was actually cold and not good quality. Plates could not be found for the toast and we had to ask for more bread and butter. The lady serving seemed very grumpy when asked for bread. Would potentially stay in this hotel again but would not choose to eat here.

Visited the park plaza for evening meal after a trip to the theatre. It was my first time in the hotel and was very impressed by the overall look and atmosphere. However, the meal was far from good. Soup starter was OK but the turkey dinner was terrible. Vegetables undercooked except for the roast potatoes which were overcooked. I had trouble cutting them and left them on the plate. Gravy was bisto and very sparse. The stuffing was also very hard and difficult to cut and eat. If you eat here, avoid the roast dinner.

I wish I could give 3.5 stars. Gone with 3 as they don't quite deserve 4. We booked here to make use of the spa amenities during our stay. The room cost £229 for the night which I deem to be premium price. We did get upgraded on arrival to a junior suite which was a lovely touch. The room was lovely - large, clean and modern, with a comfy bed. The spa facilities were well kept, modern and relaxing. I wish there had been a sauna as well as a steam room. I was surprised that there were no slippers or gown provided in the room. When we asked at the spa we were told this would be £10 to upgrade - this really took us by surprise. We were given a small towel each and just had to laugh it off. The price of the room did also not include breakfast. For the premium price paid I would have expected a premium service e.g a welcome drink, breakfast included and the spa slippers and gown provided (this is the first spa hotel I've ever been to where we have not been given slippers and a gown). I'd stay here again but not for the same price we paid.

Dear abbexi, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are pleased to know you enjoyed your stay with us and your complimentary upgrade. Bear in mind the rate for bedrooms throughout the city fluctuates on a daily basis depending on the demand in Cardiff. We are not only a spa hotel and we currently offer complimentary bathrobes and slippers to bookings made on our Spa inclusive offers, I recommend those deals for you for the future as they might provide you with a better option, especially if you are considering having spa treatments with us. Visit our website for current offers: Leisure Breaks | Park Plaza Cardiff We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Kind regards

We had a superior tree line street room, Which was excellent. For a city hotel it was quite quiet and very well appointed indeed. We had a large bath and made good use of it!!! The pool is fantastic and we had a swim on both days enjoying the spa area. Staff lovely and helpful. One major issue was the coffee in the mornjng6asked for a flatwhite and it was really awful.breakfast I'm general was OK, but just a buffet would have liked smoked salmon on scrambled eggs etc etc....need to have more choice

Not great. Over priced, room is dirty, shower curtain and around sink. Opposite very loud night club no option for a different room. Reception not welcoming, ignored for 10 minutes at check in. Would not recommend. 🙁

Chaos at breakfast……one member of staff struggling to find a clear table for guests, no tea or coffee, then you come back to your table after getting cooked food and the table has been cleared away! Not very organised…then you get two deliveries of tea. I’m afraid to get up for toast!!!!

Arrived late after New Theatre show, but although kitchen had shut at 9.30 one of the restaurant staff (Spanish chap) made me a nice pot of tea and lovely GF cheeseboard. This was much appreciated, especially as non-residents like me can also make use of the cosy lobby lounge area with its row of REAL log fires - great on miserable and cold days. Thanks, also, to the friendly receptionists.

I stayed two nights for a work trip - with a bit of extended socialising. Park Plaza Cardiff was great for that. It's a bit of a walk from the railway station, but convenient for the north side of the city centre. Check-in was efficient and helpful, and all the staff I encountered were good at their jobs and welcoming. My room was large and spacious. It was well-appointed and comfortable. The wifi was great. I've knocked off one star because I could hear noise (i.e. more-or-less overhear conversations) in the adjacent rooms: as it happened, they seemed to go to bed about the same time as me, so it wasn't a problem. But the last thing you want when staying in a hotel is to wonder whether you will be kept awake all night by noises through thin walls. Breakfast was nicely set up, with a really wide selection of high-quality food. The hot food was presented in small bowls at the serving counter - frequently refreshed, rather than just left to languish for hours. As a result, you had to wait sometimes for an empty bowl to be refilled - but that's how you know it's fresh! The breakfast room itself was really dreary: I'm sure it would be great for an intimate dinner, but at breakfast you really want bright lights and stimulation to wake you up. I'd happly stay here again next time I visit Cardiff.
