Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I don’t leave many poor reviews but I can honestly say I wasn’t impressed with this hotel at all. Main reason for a poor review are…. They advertise a swimming pool, this pool is only good for children. Not a chance an adult could swim in this pool. I used the gym and the muck and grime on the treadmills was disgusting. Clearly not been cleaned for months. The towells in the bathroom were tiny. I’m not a huge man but anyone carrying a bit of weight would never get the towell around them. Seats in the room were really basic, cheap and uncomfortable. The bathroom was dated and falling apart. Tiles missing under the bath and the unit below toilet was falling away from the wall. I ate in the restaurant and ordered the salmon. It was one of the most bland meals I’ve ever eaten. The woman on reception wiped her nose with her hand 3 times before handing me my room card. Unreal! One good thing is the tv in room has sky sports. Safe to say I won’t be staying here again.

My work partner and I ran a 3-hour evening event here in their Raglan suite for our ‘Journey to Wellness’, which was all about Meditation, singing bowls and a sound bath. The room was perfect, with easy access for our vehicles to pack up to the entrance doors to unload our equipment. It was great to have the black out curtains and the dimmable lights and we had a bit of a light show which would have only been made possible by having the room as dark as possible. We had plenty of room for the 6 gongs in the centre of the room, with the accompanying crystal singing bowls. The holiday Inn staff organised some tables on the outer edge of the room with crisp white table cloths and glass bottles of still & sparkling water, with drinking glasses. They provided us with a projector and we used their music system too for a certain meditation. Their beautiful lounge/bar area was ideally located for guests arriving early and for when we had a break half way through. Serving Starbucks coffee certainly seemed an attraction at break time. The location of the hotel was just off the M4 and attracted people from Bristol but also from Llanelli. With free car parking , it all added to the stress free feeling for everyone . Wouldn’t hesitate to use the venue again

The hotel staff is easily found, the staff were very very pleasant and the bed was really comfortable. Breakfast was a minor let down (e.g tinned tomatoes rather than the promised grilled ones), but perfectly acceptable. The main issue was that I have been charged twice for my one night stay, and I would not have known if I hadn't checked my credit card. I have emailed the hotel about it and they have not responded to my email. Your systems should not allow you to charge twice (when I haven't authorised it) and you should respond to emails to rectify the situation. I will continue to pursue a refund.

Stayed here for one night with bed and breakfast. The room was clean and had all the amenities one would require and the beds very comfortable. We were in a room at the front of the building and could hear the traffic on the nearby motorway but it wasn't so bad that it disturbed our sleep. The evening meal was good and the portions generous but we did find the bar to be rather expensive. Self service breakfast was also good with good choices and the food was replenished often and was all hot. All the staff we encountered were cheerful and polite and we'll definitely stay there again if we're in the area.

I drove to Newport, S Wales [195 miles] on Sunday 18th September for my father-in-law's funeral on the Monday. I booked two adjoining rooms [one for our two children] and I stressed to the operator at Central Reservations [based in the USA] that one room for my wife and I had to be accessible as I'm a wheelchair user etc. I stressed this at least 5 times during the conversation. Arriving 10pm Sunday [I had phoned the hotel earlier to say i'd be arriving late] and we paid for our rooms on arrival. Five minutes later I returned to the reception desk and said "the room is completely inaccessible, so what are you going to do?". She looked like a rabbit caught in headlights. Eventually she got the on-duty manager [I presumed that's who she was as she never introduced herself] and she was just as useless. The only available accessible room [in a hotel with 119 rooms!] had been allocated to other guests! They blamed Central Reservations - but the email below proves this wasn't the case. I vented my frustration at them upon checking out Tuesday morning, hence the attached email. A hotel with 119 rooms but only ONE accessible room! We usually stay at the Holiday Inn Express [a smaller hotel] but they were full. I've used Holiday Inns all over the world - but I won't be going back to this one! When in York the HI there told us their lift was broken, but within half an hour they found us another [even better] hotel just across the road from them at no extra charge. PLUS the Express one in Newport have a policy that their adjoining room to the accessible room is FREE for carers/PAs/partners etc so Angela usually has the adjoining room with Daisy and Ollie shares my room. I'm a 'Gold Member' of IHG Hotels, "a fat lot of good that is!" I shouted at the dozy receptionist on checking out this morning. Oh and we hadn't left 'Monday morning' - unless the manager is getting her days mixed up.

Stayed 2 nights Friday and Saturday as heading to a convention at the ICC across the road with 2 friends. I’d already upgraded my room online to accommodate 3 people but when arrived room wasn’t correct. Manager and staff sorted that for us and we were very grateful. However the executive room booked didn’t have the many of the facilities offered for example it’s advertised as a “fully stocked mini bar” including chocolate etc. we had a bottle of water and a mars bar in the fridge. That being said the hotel staff were extremely helpful and polite, the food could be better but the place itself is well located, nice and quiet. Staff are great

After making a mistake and booking a room at the wrong site as there’s apparently another hotel 5 miles down the road after we had booked a table at a restaurant nearby for my birthday they said we couldn’t transfer to there so had to pay £165 on top no sympathy for my mistake but to be given a room that I can only explain as the core of the sun! The sun shining through the window all day and with the aircon off it was horrendous but after asking we got moved to a car park facing room which was a lot better but still warm as upstairs with heat on the old flat roof and aircon not working correctly. Breakfast was a little hectic too as I’m guessing had been busy and run out of mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, eggs and coffee. So there’s a little to improve to make this a good experience.

On arrival the hotel looks a bit like a motel and not quite what we were expecting. But….. what makes this place great and worthy of the 5* review isn’t the decor - it’s the staff! We were greeted so nicely at the reception and although it was busy with a wedding during our visit - we were well informed and supported. The restaurant staff were exceptional. Service from Will and Robin at dinner was outstanding and they couldn’t do enough for us, despite the restaurant being insanely busy with a wedding and two large parties. We were still made to feel just as valued. Marie at breakfast was equally as helpful and so kind and considerate. As a party with a blind adult and disabled child (and a guide dog) we were overwhelmed with the care and attention we were given. Emma on reception was informative, honest and funny and was so easy to talk to. The hotel and facilities were absolutely fine for the purpose of our visit and everything was clean and well presented. Don’t be fooled by first impressions from The outside. This is a very well organized and efficient hotel. We will definitely not hesitate to return. The staff are a credit to the Holiday Inn franchise and we hope they get the praise and recognition they deserve.

Stayed with a group for 1 night, the hotel is close to motorway but quiet at night, breakfast was ok, staff ok, room was a bit old and cramped too, no cleanliness problems. Sky TV available. Otherwise no issues. Very convenient if you have to stop for a break.
