"A Hidden treasure....a real find" Irish Times
Not just 'a country house' this is our family home. We are delighted to extend its warmth to all our visitors from Ireland and around the world.
Ballymote delights in continuing the best of that renowned country house tradition, informal and apparently effortless hospitality. We understand just how valuable our guests' free time is with today's hectic way of life.
That's why, from the moment you arrive, we make sure the outside world feels a world away. Ballymote is as restful, or as relaxingly active, as you want it to be. Your only decision will be how you want to enjoy yourself next!
"No where nicer than Ballymote...... Resplendent, elegantly faded charm, blissful beds and great cooking from Nicola are the Ballymote signatures". 100 Best Places to Stay in Ireland Bridgestone Guide.
We pride ourselves on our breakfasts; apart from the de rigeur Ulster fry (ours has sausages made by a local butcher to our family recipe and 8 or so other things on the platter) we offer homemade jams, (3 or 4 different types), local honey, fruit from the garden and masses of other delicious things. It will set you up for a day of exploring!
One of the many extraordinary things about County Down is the extraordinary amount it offers for visitors to do! But never forget that while at Ballymote, simply doing nothing is as good a way to pass your time as any!
We are in the heart of St. Patrick's country; it is an ideal base for exploring one of the most historically and culturally rich parts of Ireland, with wonderful gardens, challenging world renowned links golf courses, spectacular mountains, deserted coastline and unspoilt countryside for walking and horse riding.
Come and experience it ... relax, enjoy, above all make yourself at home!
Ballymote..... Enthusiastically dedicated to your relaxation.
James and Nicola Manningham-Buller
We stayed one night with Nicola and James in their wonderful home. We were treated to superb food, interesting conversations and genuine warmth. Our room was lovely, furnished with period furniture and probably the most comfortable bed ever! This B&B is a gem and the owners have created a unique charm and eccentricity which is to be commended.
We had such an amazing time at ballymote house this weekend- we were down to visit family- we had such a warm welcome from Nichola- what can we say about breakfast it was hands down the best breakfast ever from the home made musli to the cooked breakfast it was beautiful- would highly recommend staying here as you won’t be disappointed
We stayed at Ballymote Country House, a gorgeous place where James and Nicola Manningham Buller and their adult children live, with just a couple of rooms available for B&B. It really felt more like being honoured guests of the family than strangers just paying for our rooms. We had tea in the drawing room and a superb breakfast each morning in the big dining room. James was hugely helpful in terms of advice on walks and restaurants in the vicinity, with ready-prepared marked up copies of the ordinance survey maps to guide us to the local hostelries. Our room was beautifully decorated and full of lots of books and ornaments. And a big bathroom with a really full length bathAll in all, a memorable and delightful stay and we would certainly hope to return as and when we are back in the area to see more of the surrounding countryside.…
The best experience ever Nicola & James are fabulous hosts and welcomed us into their family home we have spent five amazing days and learnt so much about Ireland, could write a book on this fantastic place, James breakfast just superb couldn’t have had better and Nicola your variety of homemade fruit compote and yogurts yummy, your family and animals made our holiday so special. As Arnie said “ We will be back “
Ballymote house provided us with a relaxing home to stay in as a family for our Son’s wedding. Our hosts were friendly, helpful and considerate to our needs and made us feel at home at all times. Nothing was too much trouble and the breakfast were outstanding, full of homemade delights. The house is full of old period charm and lots of history and James and Nicola were very happy to fill us in on the family history. We were treated to warm and inviting log fires, tea in the drawing room and warm comfortable bedrooms. We can not recommend this house and family highly enough. Sharon R
