Beautiful location in Mournes, close to many areas for sightseeing.
Unfortunately we arrived at the start of the pandemic and there was no phone service (EE), no internet service- they don’t have it, and the TV didn’t work. Because of the government rules we couldn’t go out to sightsee, so really isolated.
Only brought one novel to read so nothing to do after one day.
Because of the isolation we left a day early but if we had come prepared it wouldn’t have been a problem.
If going with children definitely take plenty of games that don’t require internet, good space outside for playing too.
Coal fire gives great heat and was easy to light and clean.
Take all condiments you use and also dishwasher tablets as nothing provided.

The fact that we return to Jimmy’s cottage year after year speaks for itself. Couldn’t get last year because of Covid so we were really looking forward to it. My son, his partner and their baby joined my husband, myself and our dogs on this stay. The cottage has three spacious bedrooms, two sitting areas and two bathrooms so there was never the feeling of living on top of one another. We do a lot of walking when we’re down at the Mournes and we were lucky enough that the weather on this stay was perfect. Jacinta takes pride in the cottages and it shows, new furniture and a fantastic new shower, coupled with the wee things like a litre of milk and a packet of biscuits to welcome guests, makes Jimmy’s the ideal spot for a restful and idyllic break from everyday life. Will be back for sure x

I feel so privileged to have such a beautiful, tranquil place only an hour away, a little piece of heaven. Jacinta and ciaran are so helpful and friendly and welcoming to both, my crazy three year old boy and as crazy 11 year old furbaby.
The cottage is immaculate and I loved the quirky layout, meaning the seating area by the cobbled open fire in the kitchen or the cosy living room on the balcony above, where we ould sit as a family at night, or the picnic table with the fire out the front. Oh and I have to say the shower is out of this world. 🚿😁 The view is unbelievable and the cottage is so close to everything yet tucked away in our beautiful mournes. There are many walks on the doorstep to choose from for different fitness levels, all spectacular. Silent valley is a quick drive in the car, as is Newcastle Town of course. So whether you are looking for a base for walking/hiking, or a fun trip with the kids or even one away from the kids this place will have it.
Thanks so much Jacinta... Can't wait to come back..

This venue was recommended by a friend, and boy did it impress. A real hidden gem in the heart of Co Down, only 10mins away from the beach resort of Newcastle and other tourist and heritage attractions in the Lecale and Mourne area, and is also in an advantages location for anyone interested in outdoor pursuits and hiking as many of the trails are on it’s door step. I originally planned to stay for 5 days but got so immersed in the boutique rural Ireland experience and character of ‘Pat’s Cottage’ I was lucky enough to extend my stay to 8 days in total. This venue is second to none. Situated in the happy Valley with the panoramic backdrop of the Mourne Mountains and picturesque views of the prominent Slíabh Bearnagh and Slíabh Donald this would be a writer’s paradise, or a great place if you are just looking for a retreat, (I can see how C. S. Lewis was inspired to write the Chronicles of Narnia) it’s absolutely magical there. For anyone with children there is a kids play area (slide, swings, etc.) at the front of the cottages which is a good indication that the venue is family friendly. The stay was also made all the more welcoming by the hostess who was such a wonderful character and was telling me of her ambitions to add additional facilities for the summer. I will certainly be back to experience the “sun down jacuzzis” in the summer months. This place is a home from home, I would love to actually live there.

Lovely cottages in a lovely setting. Would like to stay again. Would be lovely in the summertime also. Good sized rooms and kitchen. Wifi and internet excess would be beneficial especially with children.

Millers Cottages is in the most beautiful location over-looking Mt Meelmore, Slieve Bernagh, Hares Gap. You can easily walk from the cottages if you want to start exploring these mountains. By car you can explore beautiful Newcastle town, there are beautiful beaches at Murlough Bay and Dundrum. In the other direction from Newcastle there is a beautiful coast rd, passing the Western Mournes then on its way to Greencastle where you will find a beautiful beach at Cranfield. You can explore Rostrevor Forest and Warrenpoint. If you fancy you can get the ferry from Greencastle to Carlingford and explore that area.
Millers cottages are first class, clean and very comfortable. The General Manager Jacinta is on site and makes a point to introduce herself personally and will address any issues or needs you may have. You can bring your dog along ( of course cleaning up any poo , tho we dont need to be reminded Im sure!). If you just want to relax you can bring your deck chair along, weather permitting (or sit in the living room looking out the double glass doors) and just sit outside enjoying the beautiful Mournes, reading a book and a chilled sparkling drink! I am returning 2022 for a weeks break and inbetween may catch a mini 3 day autumn break.

I took my husband, toddler and dog to stay at Jimmys Cottage at Millars Close and honestly it was just perfect. It has the most wonderful vibe, with breathtaking views and the host Jacinta is so warm and welcoming. I usually feel very anxious going on holiday, but I instantly relaxed the moment I arrived and can’t wait to return. It is the perfect staycation location in NI - so many things to do within quite a short distance, including toddler and dog friendly activities (which are often hard to come across).
Millars Close is also the type of location that is perfect through all the seasons and I would not hesitate to return outside of the summer months.

Leanne & family, including Sunny the dog.

We really enjoyed our weekend stay in Miller’s Close Holiday Cottage. The house was beautifully appointed both inside and outside and so comfortable. The heating and water were perfectly set for our use and lots of causal and relaxing seating to enjoy after long walks. We made use of the fire pit to take in the great outdoors in the evening and chill. Jacinta who is the host is amazing; always on hand to help in any way and nothing any trouble. Ciáran was also very helpful with good ideas for outdoor dining. Thank you for the lovely experience and we will return!

When you have a vista the like of the one outside Millars Cottages on your doorstep, you’re one step ahead of the competition before you begin. But you don’t want to know about the view, what about Jimmy’s cottage, I hear you ask? Well, it has two comfortable spacious bedrooms, a shower room on the ground floor and a bathroom on the first. There’s a mezzanine sitting room with plenty of room and a spacious well equipped kitchen. None
If the fixtures and fittings should any sign of their age which is no mean feat considering the cottages are 25yrs old this year. Outside there is a picnic bench and fire pit. Unfortunately, with snow on the Marilyns, sitting out was not a choice for the sane. There was a comfortable chair at the French windows which sated the desire to just sit, look and contemplate which should be your main preoccupation in the Mournes. I can’t think of a better spot to do this than Millars!

We stayed in the lovely Millars Close Cottages recently. Can honestly recommend this place highly!

The facilities available are perfect for families. The cottages are safe and set in a beautiful surrounding.

The accommodation was spotless upon our arrival and Jacinta, the manager, was extremely helpful. She was always on hand to help or advise if needed.

We visited during one of the wettest weeks during the summer and with two young children, it could have been a disastrous holiday but it really wasn't and staying where we did was a huge advantage!

Thanks again Jacinta and team- we had a lovely holiday!

Yes Yvonne. These items are provided and this helps to make for a very relaxing holiday apart from freeing up valuable luggage space. Hope you decide to book. You will find Jacinta very helpful and if your holiday is as good as ours, you will want to go back again ...and again...and again!
