We booked to come to the Burrendale last minute, to celebrate my mums birthday!

Upon arrival we were greeted by 2 very friendly receptions, who advise our rooms would be ready earlier than anticipated. We ate lunch in the restaurant (service and food great), then went to our rooms.

The rooms were clean and had everything required.

We requested robes and slippers to use while using the facilities, which were promptly delivered to our rooms. The pool area was clean. It has a pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna available.

We arrived at the bar before dinner, again the staff were friendly and we were served promptly. The barman enquired if we were dining with them, when we confirmed we were he found out where we were dining and advised he would take us to table when we were ready.

When in the Vine Restaurant, our drinks order was taken promptly. The specials, etc were advised once we had taken our seats. The service from all staff was great, and the food amazing!

There was entertainment that evening, which several people enjoyed. The gentleman attempted to play songs that suited everyone.

Breakfast, again we were shown to a table promptly, and tea/coffee order taken. The food selection was very good, from a cooked breakfast, make your own pancakes, breads, etc.

Thank you for a lovely stay, we will definitely be back!

A fantastic hotel - stayed for 2 nights between Christmas and New Year. The rooms are comfortable and are well maintained - an ambassador room gives you not only stunning views of the Mournes but is also a good sized room. The food throughout our stay was excellent and the staff coped exceptionally well under the pressure of a full hotel and lots of walk ins for food. Some other 4 star hotels in the area are fancy and glitzy but The Burrendale Hotel has something much more special it has a soul and a heart that shines through because of its incredible staff.

We have been to The Burrendale a few times before, this was our first trip since becoming vegan. Check in was grand, the receptionist had a little sticker on her desk with our names stating that we were vegan. I had emailed ahead and was sent a copy of the vegan menu which looked great although at dinner I was give a newer menu with the meal I had planned removed. I went ahead and had the burger which was lovely. My husband had the soup for starter but they didnt have any vegan butter for his bread but the soup was still really nice. The next morning we went for breakfast and to our surprise there the chef had prepared two vegan plated breakfasts which were fantastic, it was great for someone to have gone to this effort. The hotel also provided a carton of soy milk for our room and a little fridge to keep it cool.

We stayed in the mourne view room, it was spacious and clean.

The Burrendale itself could do with a full refurb, the rooms are very dated and very worn but that shouldn't stop you from visiting as the staff are fantastic and we will be back.

A nice overnight stay away after the Xmas rush. Special offer including spa use however no spa treatment sessions available which was disappointing, others staying commented the same thing , may have been with new year holidays but disappointed none the less.

Pool , steam room and jacuzzi okay though pool a little cold and no robes offered as advertised.

Hotel and rooms feels little dated but clean enough, lighting in room was funny and switches in strange places to work lights nowhere near the switch .

The Food quality was very good in cottage bar and vine restaurant, though sticky toffee pudding lacked any stickiness but was an enjoyable chocolate sponge.

My Wife and I stayed in the Burrendale on Thursday 30th Jan 2020, We arrived at 4pm and were met with a very friendly member of staff at reception but it went downhill after that. I went down to the main bar which was closed so proceeded into the main dining area were a few members of staff were standing (they were not busy) and asked if the bar was open, they said that it did not open until 5pm and made no effort to advise if there was another bar where I could get a drink.
I went back to our room and asked reception to have some ice delivered to my room but I was told she could not do that but could deliver ice water to the room. I asked why I could not have Ice delivered and was told I could, but would need to pay a corkage charge of £13.50. I of course declined. I have traveled all through Ireland staying in many hotels and never had this experienced. I later found out that there actually is a bar in the main dining area but the staff never informed me of this.
We also used the Leisure facilities which for the most part were fine but the setup between the men's changing room and getting to the pool area is not good, having to walk through a corridor wet, if you do go there, bring a robe and sandals.
We had dinner in the bar that evening and my Wife ordered a meal requesting peppered sauce on the side. However, the meal came with gravy pored over it. The waiter said it wasn't noted on the order which the barman overheard and informed the waiter on his way back, that it was noted, so some miscommunications between staff.
We will not be staying at this hotel again as a first choice in Newcastle due to the above issues, However, may try it again sometime in the future and hope for a better experience.

We stayed for 4 nights and the hotel was in a great location for a holiday with easy access to the mountains, the forest, the coast and the town. Our room had a couple of problems with 'sticking' doors but they were resolved quickly once the reception staff were informed. The catering was especially good with a most efficient and friendly staff. We are vegetarians and the chef provided veggie meals for us each evening, outside of the standard residents' menu which we very much appreciated. Breakfasts were particularly good and plentiful and set us up for the day.

We had been gifted vouchers last November for afternoon tea. We were unable to use these due to lockdown and then the Burrendale not serving afternoon tea until this month . Whilst I was told they could be used against dinner or a stay, we wanted to use them for what they were intended. When I phoned to book I was told there would be an additional charge as their prices had increased due to better quality food. I advised them that the voucher was for afternoon tea and therefore the price should not matter and they should honour the vouchers for that, however, despite speaking with a manager I got nowhere and was told I could have used them for their £17.50 value and should be grateful that they extended them. Knowing that I would no longer enjoy afternoon tea at the Burrendale we travelled a considerable distance to use them this evening against a meal. I did think £18 for a roast dinner was expensive but we had the vouchers so we went with it. I have never been more disappointed. The beef had a lot of fat on it, looked like it had been pan fried as I was asked if I would like it pink or well done (first I've ever been asked that for a roast), the vegetables were pitiful and looked like one portion which included a wilted leaf of something, not sure what as it was completely tasteless. The one roast potatoes was small enough to fit between my thumb and index finger. The kids gougons were overcooked and in a strange coating that the child did not like. The staff were lovely and very helpful, just a pity about the quality of food, and to think that prices have increased to match quality!!

I live locally and have had meals there in the past but I'm not sure that I will bother in future. We ordered a round of drinks before we ordered food and weren't asked during the next 2 hours if we wanted to order any more. Three of us ordered starters (all cold) but the first food to come out was the main courses - we pointed out that there were starters ordered and were told that there had been a mix up with the order. Eventually after an hour the cold starters arrived and these were OK but then you can't go wrong with prawns and pate. There were no side plates on the table which was annoying. After the starters were cleared away, we waited again for the main courses to arrive which were wrong - missing chips, missing sides, wrong sides - and no cutlery until we asked for it. The chips, roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding were like rocks and the beef was so tough. My elderly mum wanted to pay and she went to the desk as there was no sign of any bill even though we'd told them that we were leaving. The girl was really pleasant and recognised my mum and asked how the meal was and mum said that it wasn't great. The first person said that it was because they were busy without even an apology before he turned away so the girl called the manager. He insisted on bringing my mum into a quieter area where he blamed it on the staff but gave her £40 cash back. We've mentioned it to friends who all have similar stories. Really sad as my family have been regular customers for decades.

Stayed here with my family over the weekend and we had a great time, the roast beef dinner on our first night was absolutely beautiful, tried to order it on the second night but they had none on the menu so had a burger which was also very good. All staff were so polite and helpful and nothing was too much bother, the rooms got very warm at night and there's no air con but when I mentioned to reception we got a fan delivered straight away. Phoned ahead of arrival to see if they had irons and the receptionist had irons put into all 3 rooms. Great stay overall the night boys in the bar were brilliant too they let us drink as long as we wanted and didn't make us feel like we were in the way (even though we drank to 4am!) pool wasn't opened which was a shame as my 2 year old would have loved it but there's always next time.

Filthy room, dirty carpet, walls and doors and the food was disgusting, except for the breakfast. The décor is old and worn and the bedroom furniture is scratched and also worn. I actually bought bleach in town to clean the bathroom before using it. 4*? Not any more, yet I paid £330 for 2 nights' b&b, with 1 evening dinner...only for me. My 16 year old son's dinner wasn't included because "it's hotel policy that the price only includes dinner for the adult"! Bizarre! Spend your money on a holiday abroad, because this place has gone badly downhill, yet still charges extortionate 4* prices. £9 for 6 tiny prawns is an absolute disgrace. The toilets downstairs at Reception smelled like someone had died in them - right beside where we were eating. Revolting! The Burrendale has just lost a whole family of customers. AVOID!!
