Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is advertised as boutique accommodation but is really just a big guest house. The rooms are ok but a bit dated and there were damp patches on the ceilings in the two rooms we saw . There is no reception and to check-in you go to the bar next door Hugh McCanns( same company) The guy there was not very welcoming. He went off to chat to someone while I was standing waiting for the keys. We planned to have the advertised Sunday Lunch but were told they weren't doing it that day ?? Tried then to book a table for dinner but was told it was walk-in only but there would be no problem getting a table and that the kitchen closed at 8.00 pm. Around 6.30 we had a drink in the bar and checked out the menu and again was told to come before 8. We returned just after 7 to be told the restaurant was closed!! This made it difficult for us to get into another restaurant as everywhere was fully booked. Very poor communication throughout. The room was very noisy with the beer garden out back but that ended at 12 so it was ok. Unfortunately, we were then kept awake by a group of very noisy guests arriving back at 1.30 who partied out on the corridor until nearly 3, when they eventually went to bed we could hear their snoring through the thin walls so we got very little sleep. The very basic room was £90 but no breakfast and no parking. Location was good

Despite the poor reviews we were pleasantly surprised with our accommodation. The Haven is located at the far end of the promenade past the car park. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. We had a very large bed which was very comfortable. There was no fridge but that wasn't an issue for us as we only stayed for one night. Overall we had a good experience.

Unless you are staying here as part of a larger party or wedding party, I would say avoid at all costs.
We arrived for check in at 3pm, got the keys from the bar next door as there is no reception in the house and went to our room. We noticed right away the room had not been cleaned due to the dirty bed sheets, cups and towels. The bar did offer us a drink while we waited over an hour for the room to be prepared.
We were part of a wedding party which had booked the entire accommodation but the room was definitely not value for money. Our room was marked as a double room but seemed to be missing a bed compared to the other double rooms. They gave us one large towel and one small towel for two people. The light above the sink did not work and the shower was leaking. The bedroom gave onto the back of the pub next door and the noise and music went on till after 1am both nights. The windows in the room are dated and don't open fully which wasn't great during a heatwave when there is no AC or even a fan in the room. People speaking in the hallway sound like they are in the room with you.
This is not boutique, it's just a room in a house.

Stayed in Newcastle after hiking Slieve Donard with two other couples and me on my own and the best thing I can say about the guesthouse is that it's the closest to the carpark, other than that it's Overpriced and over rated is what I'd say about the Haven, collected the keys in the bar next door and after some confusion with rooms and keys swapped we all had a few beers before going into the guesthouse. First thing that struck my was its old and dated smelled a bit like an old house and felt like one and definitely wasn't boutique, I think the owner is confusing it or trying to employ some marketing spin. my room was clean shower had some mould but overall wasn't too bad but my friends showers were either boiling or freezing. The wardrobe is more like a press with no door and be aware the boy racers like to show off in the carpark to the rear and the single glazing windows aren't great at keeping the noise out.
Price wise at £140 it's daylight robbery and that was for me on my own and no breakfast is available. If I'm ever up that way again I'll look for better value I didn't make the booking one of my friends did as I normally check out the trip advisor reviews and looking at most of them they all reflect my feeling about the Haven.

Overpriced and not good value. no Breakfast and 160 euros for 2 people for one night, Close to a very noisy car park, the rooms are old, dank, dreary, damp, the bathroom was freezing cold with mould throughout, the smell of wood smoke was almost choking when you opened a window in the bedroom which was stifling hot!!! the total opposite of the cold bathroom in which the towel warmer/ radiator was broken and leaking onto the tiles, avoid like the plague.

Definitely not boutique accommodation as stated in the name. Bedroom door rattled all night as the window on landing outside the room was left open. Wallpaper peeling off the wall. Paint work chipped. No shower gel in the dispenser. Floorboards uneven underneath the carpet. Light above sink didn’t work. Huge clock in the room didn’t work either.
All in all very poor accommodation for the price

First let's start with they need to change the name to basic accommodation as it is far from a little haven boutique. Room was very dull & out dated . Nothing of the room justified the £90 price tag for 1 night with no breakfast.
Will not be staying here ever again, Very poor.

This is a room, not a guest house. Stayed with friend and collected keys next door in the bar.
Room was clean, damp patches on the ceiling. The rest of the House was fully booked for a wedding the previous day. We were in bed sleeping around 11pm.
Got wakened at 3AM when a man screaming and shouting to get in was banging on the door for at least 20minutes. It was a terrifying experience. There was no reception or security! We went to get showered the next morning. I was badly burnt, as boiling hot water was coming from the shower. I ended up in A and E, later that day. I reported this to the manager. She apologised and stated she had given us a full refund. We are still waiting. I am horrified to read someone else has been burned by this shower. It’s a Health Hazard!
