We stayed at the Waterfoot once again as a family in two rooms over the Christmas period, and we've stayed numerous times before while visiting family in the Derry area.

The Waterfoot has always been a comfortable, homely, friendly and affordable place to stay within easy reach of the city. But we noticed on this visit that it has been substantially improved.

The double/twin rooms we had were very clean, spacious and re-decorated and included bathrooms with a walk-in shower as well as tea & coffee and complimentary water. There's even a pillow menu these days!

We had a family dinner at the hotel for 11 of us and the food, once again, was excellent as well as competitively priced. There's a great choice on the menu and we were pleased with everything that came our way.

Another noticeable improvement is at breakfast. Instead of a predictable buffet as before, a cooked breakfast can now be ordered from a full menu, cooked fresh and served fresh by the waiting staff. One of the best hotel breakfasts we've had in a while.

It's important that we also mention the very friendly and helpful staff at reception, in the restaurant and the excellent cosy bar.

Well done to the management and team at the hotel for making the place even better but keeping prices low.

My husband & I booked a last minute stay for our anniversary. From the moment we arrived the welcome from the girls in reception was lovely, staff were extremely helpful and went out of their way to make us comfortable and welcome!

We got to our room the first thing that hit me was how fresh it smelled, the room was spotless & warm.
The bed was comfortable, pillows could have been better but that's a preference thing. The water pressure and temperature in the walk in shower was lovely!

The iron & hairdryer worked very well, as did the fridge and the kettle.

We had dinner in the restaurant, it was very quiet being midweek, but the food and standards, plus service was fantastic!

Our stay was quite and we enjoyed relaxing as this is what we needed, we didn't try the snug but hopefully the next time.

Breakfast was ok, my husband enjoyed his, mine wasn't great, although in saying that there was enough other options and I definitely didn't go hungry, I wouldn't mark this down as it just seemed like an inexperienced mistake. Again service was excellent!

This really is a wee gem of a boutique hotel, in a great location, it had everything wee needed for a short stay, we will hope to return soon!

Thank you!

Stayed here on 7th January 2022 and had a great night. We stayed in the ambassador suite and it was exactly like the picture on the website. The bed was massive, as was the tv (which also had surround sound system).
The bathroom had a jacuzzi bath, a massive shower and double sinks with loads of storage and towels provided.
The staff were very welcoming, friendly and informative throughout our stay.
We ate in the snug bar and the food was lovely. Reasonably priced pints also and with the open fire we were lovely and warm even though it was baltic outside.
We have stayed here before in the normal rooms that are available which are nowhere near as nice as the suite so if its available i would recommend getting the suite. Its very reasonably priced for what you get.
Had breakfast in the restaurant and there was a good variety of options. You can have continental style and cooked, of which there is plenty to choose from.
Again, the staff were friendly and helpful.
Smooth check-in and check out process with plenty of on-site parking available.
Really, for the location its well worth a visit.

I liked the location because it was quieter than most, yet near enough to city center (10 min drive).

Our room was spacious enough and there were working electrical plugs next to each bed to accommodate our device chargers.

The downsides: our room, located on the lower level was overheated (as was the entire hallway on that level. Luckily, we were able to open the window, since there was no way to control the radiators in the room.

The bathroom, while contemporary and stylish, had practical drawbacks. For one, no shelf on which to place toiletries bags. It’s always nice to have a heated towel bar in the bathroom … except when it’s SO hot that one is burned if touched. And since there is no grab bar to get in or out of shower, it’s easy to forget and reach for the heated towel bar.

There were a total of 5 hangers in the room—not nearly enough for a 2 person multi-night stay.

There is also no lift anywhere in the hotel and one must climb more than a dozen steps even to reach Reception. To their credit, the front desk will call for a porter to help with luggage.

Hotel fare was standard stuff. Nothing special there.

In all, it was a bit pricey but good enough for a short stay.

We're just home from a two day break here and enjoyed the break but a couple of things let the hotel down. Firstly we left the car at home and travelled by train. The hotel is a fair distance out of town. But there is a good bus service. So if you want to walk out of the hotel into the middle of things then forget it. We weren't put off by this but some might be. Secondly and probably more importantly was the room we had, had what I think was a large extractor/ventilation shaft from the kitchen below right beside our room window. The noise from this would have made sleeping impossible so when going into the dining room at 6pm I stopped at reception and mentioned it. The chap on reception said it was only on during kitchen hours and would be turned off when the kitchen finished which was a relief. It was turned off around 9 ish that evening. Second night the noise still hadn't stopped around 10ish. My wife rang reception and a gentleman there asked her 'didn't anyone tell you there was a wedding on and there would be noise'? He seemed to think we were complaining about noise from the wedding party which we weren't. We couldn't hear anything from the wedding while the kitchen ventilation was running. He eventually understood what the problem was and said he was going to the kitchen to investigate. 15 minutes later and the noise was still going. My wife phoned through again and he said he had switched off something, but whatever he switched off it wasn't the ventilation. So he went down again. About 10 minutes later with the noise still running I was getting my phone onto the camera. I was going to video the outside so I could let him hear the noise when bingo the noise stopped. This was around 10:50pm. If we hadn't phoned through I don't think it would have been turned off. If the hotel is letting out rooms in that area in future they should warn prospective guests there could be a problem with noise. Otherwise a good stay. Staff very friendly and food good. Breakfast was excellent.

Dear BelfastRambler, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on Tripadvisor. I am glad that in the main you seem to have enjoyed your stay here at the Waterfoot Hotel however I wish to take this opportunity to apologise to you and your wife for things you believed let the hotel down. You are correct in saying that there is a ventilation shaft in our downstairs kitchen and I am truly sorry that the noise from this appears to have been your main cause of concern. Unfortunately the kitchen cannot operate without this being turned on due to safety reasons. On the night in question this was on later than the previous night due to the wedding which was taking place. As with a lot of weddings a request was made for evening buffet food. This is normally serviced to the room at 10.30pm and the ovens and fans were turned off as soon as this service had finished. As a general rule this fan wouldn't be on past 11pm however I appreciate that this time may still be late for some. Again I would like to say sorry but I do assure you that even without your mentioning this would have been turned off. I am pleased to hear that you found our staff to be friendly and you enjoyed both the food in the restaurant and at breakfast. I really do hope that you would consider staying with us again and it would be a pleasure to meet you in person so as to apologise directly. Should you chose to do so can I ask that you please ask for Jason and I would be delighted to say hello. Kind regards, Jason Doherty

The turn off to hotel is like driving into a housing estate, but hotel itself is clean and some parts quite modern. The receptionist was friendly but lots of information wasnt shared maybe stick to bullet points of the key information. The food was nice but service slow that was in the big dining room but there was a small pub like a local grubby bar we where sent to and when we walked in instantly felt uncomfortable and left and stood our ground of the bigger dinning room. When you are a resident of the hotel you should be made to feel accommodated. The rooms are clean and tidy but the heating system is controlled at the reception which is quite annoying. There is a small fridge in the room that sounds like a heating system and although its useful it was extremely loud. The bed was slightly uncomfortable it kept dipping at the end and I felt I was going to fall of. The facilities in the where great tea coffee hot chocolate and biscuits. Bathroom clean and equip with shampoos no bath but a good shower ect... the breakfast is served until 10:30 we went at 10:15 and they where not friendly and the food was not at all tasty or fresh it actually turned me and my partner. Checkout was the best part as you get to stay until 12.

On 31/12/21 myself and my partner arrived here to begin our new years eve stay. Total disaster from the get go is all I can say. On arrival we were greeted at reception by a young lad, as he began checking us in the phone rang and without excusing himself took the call, no apology for the interruption after either. So we eventually got checked in and went to our room, when we opened the door our mouths dropped. We booked a double room, on booking.com, a room which we thought was modernised, no it was a cramped room that had not one similarity to the pictures on the website we booked on, it was horrible. On going to reception to make them aware of the matter, I was told I could have a complimentary upgrade to a different room. Our 2nd room was much more modern but based directly above where a wedding was taking place within their facilities and the noise as expected for a wedding was awful. If you are going to upgrade someone's room due to false advertisement of your own pictures and details of room facilities when I had made the booking you would surely think about where you are moving your guests to. We tried to get on with our night and not let this annoy us. Went for our meal and afterwards asked where the entertainment that had been advertised on their Facebook page on the run up to Christmas and again on the 27/12/21 would be held, to be told it had been cancelled and that there was a post on Facebook to make guests coming to stay aware. Which there wasn't, not a single post. When we were made aware of this it really put a dampner on our night as we hadn't much more option but to sit in our room and look at each other all night. We spoke to a manager and asked if we could possibly have a partial refund for our stay as we no longer wanted to stay here, we got told no, and that we can have a complimentary drink instead. We decided to go ahead and check out at 8.45pm, when doing so the manner of one of the managers was diabolical, infront of other guests who had been staying, and may I add also making complaints too. There wasn't even as much as an apology for the inconvenience. She told us that "we hadn't paid for entertainment", even though said entertainment was free for all hotel guests. And accordingly didn't have any obligations to let guests that were coning to stay know it had been cancelled. The whole evening was completely misleading, luring guests in with the thought of an evening of entertainment and not even as much as letting people know on arrive it had been cancelled, or on the Facebook page after posting at the beginning of the week it was going ahead. So no stay, no refund and not a single apology. I will definitely not be back and will be sure to let people know of my experience and hopefully no one will be treated the way we were as paying guests on that evening. Furious.

So, start with positives, Kaitlyn on reception, lovely and efficient, could not have done more or been more friendly. And, the rooms, although dated needing a refresh were big enough.
The less positives. The hotel was hot and windows could be minimally opened, sadly we also had a malfunctioning radiator in our room the continued to stay on,. Finally day three they got it to stop. First day we were lazy and left about two to go out, they did not clean our room even though sign was on door. Day two left about 12:45 and they had put a bag with toilet paper and an extra towel outside the door. I did say not good enough at reception and they did clean it. The last night was the worst. Event going on with very loud music until 1:00 am. We were in a room far from the event room, feel for anyone in a room that was closer. The need better soundproofing. And lastly, the fire alarm went off in the morning about 7:45 am, no information given, no calls, knocks on doors either. It went off about 10 mins later.
The hotel was disticly average before the last night but that sealed it to poor.

We stayed here for 3 nights, the food was excellent and very tasty also well priced. This is a very popular place to eat the restaurant was full every night we ate in the snug bar much quieter, on that note both barmen were absolutely brill very friendly and very efficient.
The room rate is very good value for money.
Room was clean and warm with water, biscuits tea and coffee on offer. Modern bathroom with a little niggle the toilet was lose as was the seat. A bit of tlc this place would be A1
My ceiling had a hole in it with water dripping through, to be honest they wanted me to change rooms but I could not be bothered as did not affect me. Super free Wi-fi
Would I return?
100% yes, Friendly staff, well priced and very tasty food what more can anyone want.
