Still an excellent little gem just outside of Aberdeen
Easy check in
Twin room was huge with big towels / complimentary water, tea, coffee etc.
Spa was lovely
Food was really nice and served quickly
Breakfast is buffet but plenty selection
The mark of 4 is purely down to small snags in room. Toilet roll holder coming off wall and dusty. Stains on walls (looked liked water marks) doors chipped and marked. Bed is super comfy. Excellent pillows.

My husband and I have stayed here before on the recommendation of a friend. So this was our 2nd trip and we had a great time!

Everything felt the same luxurious experience but safe, the correct precautions were in place. Hand sanitiser available, all spaces had been sanitised professionally and one way system in place. All staff and guests were respectful of each other.

The breakfast staff in particular were amazing as it is usually a buffet breakfast so they were amazing at catering for whatever we needed.

We had a very relaxing visit and will be back again and again. 😍

I have now visited this hotel 4 times and always in October>November. At this time of year, prices are usually low, but watch out ! If they have heavy demand, prices can spike.

In the past there have been communication problems. Most annoyingly on my first visit, I was unable to get an answer when trying to telephone reception, due to some fault with with the telephone system. This problem no longer exists. On my first and 2nd visits in 2016 and 2017, the hotel's wi-fi system was incompatible with the PC version of Internet Explorer 11. This resulted in all sorts of annoying false error messages and badly formatted web pages. I am uncertain whether this problem still exists, because on my 3rd and 4th visit I used Chrome.

They seem to have cut down the room service menu. The same menu as per my previous visits was still in the room, but most of the items were unavailable. From memory, I recall that since we had arrived in the not so early hours of the morning, we chose to wait for breakfast, which was up to Mercure's normal high standard.

Free parking is available in the hotel's own car park, but sometimes it gets crowded. In this case, you park your car in any excuse for a parking space that does not obstruct other users.

Some of the bar snacks are big enough to be main meals. If you order a roast beef sandwich, be aware that by default they will poison it with a horrible, sickly sweet, sugary red onion jam, unless you tell them not to.

The restaurant is good but very expensiive. On this visit, I did not use it. There is better value at restaurants on and around Union Street.

Stayed over the weekend of 28/29th Feb.

Hotel is in desperate need of a deep clean, even the plates at breakfast were coated in old food underneath and our wine bucket at dinner was smeared in sauce. Wine glasses smelt like beef which I pointed out to our waitress but she poured the wine anyway. Stains all over carpets in hallways. Sticky tables. No menus offered at breakfast. No juice glasses available at breakfast on both occasions. Breakfast meats were cheap and nasty. One member of the evening bar team was particularly unhelpful, repeatedly telling us she didn’t have various drinks until we kept pointing them out to her behind the bar. Most of the hotel was freezing, especially the dining room, none of the fires were lit throughout the stay. No Champagne available throughout stay, no Malbec available, had to pay an extra £11 for the next tier of wine at £41 a bottle, no Prosecco at all on the first night (was charged £9 a single glass for a disgusting RED Frizzante which is listed online at £5.82 a bottle) and then warm Prosecco on the second night, the bottles were not in the fridges. The dinner waitress (assuming head waitress or supervisor as she had a jacket on when the others didn’t) was snappy with us about not finishing our desserts, demanding angrily to know what was wrong with them (tasted like wet dog to be accurate) before removing the plates. Reception staff were brilliant. Nothing too much trouble. Although as hotel was so busy it took a long time to check in and out. Bed was lumpy with an annoying mattress topper. Room was clean and spacious although not sure why it was labelled a Privilege room as it seemed exactly the same as another room one of our party had stayed in. No slippers with complementary robes. No hairdryer, had to ask housekeeping who very huffily provided another. Shower leaked horribly every time we used it although was a good shower and bathroom was adequate. Hotel was very busy with a couple of weddings on and a ball so we were repeatedly woken up throughout the night by noisy party goers and struggled to be served at the one bar that was open. Couldn’t get through to room service throughout our stay yet the bar was so busy with guests and lacking in service we ended up spending £60 on taxis into Aberdeen. Pool is nice. Clean changing rooms. All in all, did not enjoy the hotel and definitely would not return.

Stayed for one night at ardoe house and considering it’s being branded as being renovated and done up nothing has changed since i visited last time in 2015.
Our iron in the room was leaking and broken so we had to visit reception 3 individual times before we got one and it took over an hour for them to find one for us. The phone has no code next to it telling you how to phone reception and it was out of range as well which didn’t help. When we tried to phone the reception directly from the phone number online there was no answer despite knowing someone was at the front desk. When arriving at 10am for breakfast we were told it shut at 9.30am and we couldn’t get any hot food anymore despite the NEW website saying it’s served from 7-12. We had paid for breakfast in our deal and were given fruit and a coffee in replacement which was not acceptable. We were told the times of breakfast were on the welcome letter however it would have been helpful if we were given one and the reception staff were not at all sorry due to their mistake by not giving us one we couldn’t get a proper breakfast. Considering they opened 3 weeks ago I would have hoped they would put more off an effort into making sure their guests had a good experience however due to this I will not be visiting again or recommending it to anyone. Overall really poor experience and definitely not what you would expect when paying £145 for one night. There was also photos of their drinks and cocktails on Instagram and once we arrived I asked to see the list and was told since they opened recently they hadn’t got it sorted yet. Truly if you can’t have everything sorted for when you open then don’t open and stay shut for longer rather than disappointing your customers. The spa was nice however the jacuzzi and steam room were not open/working which was a bit of a disappointment. The evening meal cannot be faulted in the slightest it was excellent and the service by the restaurant staff was amazing. The drinks were also very expensive for what you could get in the centre of town for nearly half price. I would definitely not consider this a 4 star hotel as much as the decor and interior feels like one the the service is near a 2/3 star hotel.

Stayed here for a week. As previous reviews state they did not clean the room during the duration of our stay, we had to phone via private mobile to reception to ask for toiletries. The phone in the room wasn’t working, the internet was sporadic, staff not trained on how to carry out their jobs. Housekeeping was shocking. Snails on the windows, dust everywhere, cobwebs, dirty cutlery. For the name and brand which you pay for I was expecting something way better than what we got. I have no sympathy for the fact that they have newly reopened as I have visited many hotels during Covid and they still cleaned the rooms and gave you soap etc. Reception hardly ever answered the calls. The food was so average and expensive! Two classes of wine was £19!! I don’t know what the big deal is with all the Aberdonians love this place so much. Maybe they don’t know a good spot when they see it. Suggest they get out of Scotland and see what the rest of the world has to offer when it comes to value for money, because this ain’t it!

Can honestly say the moment we walked in we were disappointed, we turned up to reception and about 6 of the staff couped around the desk and had to wait untill they finished their conversation to be checked in. Asked to have a seat and fill in the form and wait for the therapist fully clothed. We weren't shown around the premises , weren't offered to go get changed into our robes and slippers.

The only good thing was that my therapist was great was a lovely massage. On the other hand my husband got a young girl that talked though his entire massage, not relaxing in the slightest hearing about her going on a bender at the Christmas period .

Then finally got our gowns because I asked our therapist to get them and she came back and told me they had no flip flops or slippers . Not knowing what to do I got fully dressed as I'm not going to walk around in bare feet . It's January and the place was freezing . The lunch / dinner was served in a cafeteria tray and it was so dark in the reception area I could hardly see what I was eating. For a relaxation area it was dreadful , cold and noisy as it was in the main reception.

We still didn't get shown around the facilities , the hot tub was broken and the swimming pool had swimming lessons going on so nothing relaxing about the place in the slightest. Wouldn't recommend to anyone

Our stay was terrible from start to finish with very few small positives. We checked in at reception, the lady gave us our keys and we had to ask where to go. The rooms were a plus, clean, spacious and comfortable. We went to the pool and ‘spa’ to find the steam room and jacuzzi not working and no form of spa treatments available so completely false advertising. The ladies at the pool check in desk were lovely and helpful, pretty much the only ones. After a swim we went down to the bar in the drawing room (main bar completely closed). The staff didn’t greet us when we walked in then ignored us and didn’t ask what we’d like. We asked for a cocktail menu to be told they couldn’t do cocktails as the guy who did them had left. We then sat outside, all the tables outside were covered in empty glasses which we had to clear ourselves. We then had to go back in and order at the bar ourselves. Later in the evening we went down for dinner which we’d booked over the phone 3+ weeks ago, to be told we didn’t have a table as we hadn’t booked. The staff then left us standing in the middle of the restaurant while they put two tables together and crammed us in. The food took a while to arrive, nothing was hot, the steaks were very over cooked and the beef dry. We couldn’t face more very basic drinks in the ‘bar’ so actually went out for the evening. Then in the morning at 9am a member of staff came into our room without knocking or checking if the room was empty. We shouted who is it and she just shouted sorry and left. Then we went down to breakfast which was utterly unbelievable. They had no table for 5 so we were asked to wait on a sofa in the hall by a lovely lady who explained they’d set a table - totally fine. We were then ignored when we went in with no tea/coffee order taken. We asked for tea. A female waitress then came round all the tables and told us breakfast finished at 10.30 and we had to leave; it was 10.20 and we’d just sat down with food. We then asked for more tea so we didn’t have to ask at 10.30 and were met with unbelievable rudeness - the girl actually picked up our teapot, opened it, said we had lots and slammed it back down. We explained we liked a lot of tea so she went to get more. We had to ask for milk also and she tried to get us to get it ourselves from the buffet room. We tried to explain to the girl we didn’t want a hassle, just more tea and she asked us not to be disrespectful and left crying. A guest from another table then got involved and a manager appeared who did nothing whatsoever. We asked to speak with the manager on checkout, he saw us at the desk and completely ignored us. All staff either seemed to have little idea of where anything was, what to do or how to serve guests or were downright rude. DO NOT GO HERE.

I’ve been reading the reviews here and understand people have beenpointed. After I had stayed I discovered that the hotel had gone in to administration last year and had only reopened in July. I think the issues are teething problems and there is most definitely potential as a lot of the issues mentioned previously seem to have been resolved.
Firstly it’s a beautiful building. Reception was ok, the girl could have maybe showed you where everything was a bit better fair enough.
On arrival to our corridor we were greeted with a table of dirty glasses but as the rooms were being cleaned still we figured they’d go quickly. They were still there at 9pm so not the best look.
Our room was lovely and the bathroom fab. The tray could be slightly better as could toiletries on offer, would just bring the standard up a bit - but as a new business they’re maybe establishing credit lines etc so this may improve over time. Beds were so comfy and it was generally very clean, just a few cobwebs about.
Spa was disappointing, yes. No treatments available at all which was one of the reasons we’d booked and no notification of this and no apology. The pool and changing rooms, staff and building are lovely and the sauna was great. No jacuzzi.
It certainly was very clean but there was maybe a wasps nest somewhere as there were a few wasps about
I heard that there was no food available for a couple of weeks before we arrived. I’m guessing this was to get rid of previous chef and get another because I can’t fault the food we had. It was lovely.
A few wee things like no napkins on the table and I think a carafe of water on the table would be better than coming and filling glasses.
Breakfast is a buffet but we enjoyed it although I understand that’s not to everyone’s taste. Definitely a Scottish breakfast with black pudding, haggis and tattie scones.
I think a uniform would be better. Just smartens the place up. And waiting staff should be in white shirts, not furry jumpered.
Staff were all very nice and there was only one at reception that was maybe needing to be a bit more helpful - it’s the first impression so sticks. But everyone else was lovely and helpful, even taking photos of us together which was nice.
I actually really enjoyed my stay. Admittedly we got an amazing deal which helps but I genuinely think that there’s a few teething problems that could be easily sorted and would make all the difference. I’m pretty sure right now it’s just missing the mark for four stars but it wouldn’t take much and I believe they’re trying.

Having read some of the reviews I really feared for our trip here. Just shows one man's meat is another man's poison. Well the ardoe is definetly my prime steak!
We arrived here for 2 nights dinner bed and breakfast and from the lovely welcome upon checking in to the pleasant experience checking out it was a truly fantastic stay and one I cannot wait to repeat.
I loathe hotels that offer up two twin beds joined together as a kind bed and don't even bother with a mattress topper to make it comfortable. Not so here. The bed and pillows were really comfortable so much so I fell asleep almost as soon as I got into bed not something that happens often. The bed was so so comfortable I so want to return just for the bed alone!
The room was amazing. We had a prestige room and it was lovely having the mini fridge to make use of (we arrived equipped with drinks and snacks to stock up the fridge ) and the robes and slippers just added that touch of luxury.
The pool was open and we were lucky to have gained access to it. The lady in charge this is so so lovely and we a pleasure using the facilities. I believe the spa will soon be I use so it gives me a reason to return.
Dinner both nights was excellent. Truly 5 star and the staff were just amazing.
Breakfast ,whilst covid regs did make it a bit chaotic, was lively. The fresh croissants so much better than plastic wrapped tasteless wonders and the hot choices at breakfast were plentiful.
The hotel had only been opened one month when we arrived and yes there were slight teething issues but overall it didn't detect from our experience.
Fabulous place. Get in quick before this 4 star hotel becomes 5 star and revise their prices to match this.
Well done Ardoe can't wait to return.
