Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Just love this traditional, friendly hotel!
We've just had another lovely stay. Our room was a great size with a table and chairs. comfy bed, plenty of storage, a full size ironing board & iron in the wardrobe and an extremely well stocked hospitality tray. The complimentary bottled water is always appreciated. Everything was clean & tidy.
The bathroom was also a good size with nice quality individual toiletries and a huge heated towel rail.
This time we had dinner in the hotel which was brilliant. The roast beef in particular was absolutely delicious. Portion sizes are generous. Enjoyed some lovely chilled Pinot Grigio with our meal. Service was prompt, efficient and extremely friendly. Later we enjoyed a couple of drinks in the very welcoming and cosy bar. A delightful evening.
Breakfast was table service to comply with current Covid precautions and we enjoyed freshly cooked full Scottish and omelettes. Again both food and service were excellent.
We were booked for a 2 night stay but personal circumstances meant we were only able to stay for one night.
The hotel definitely has that home-from-home feel, which is just lovely. Every member of staff is friendly and efficient in equal measure. Highly recommended.
Looking forward to our next stay at The Atholl.

My Sister and I stayed in Room 21 and my Mum stayed in Room 39. Both our rooms were very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The bathrooms were well appointed with various toiletries supplied and replenished daily. Everything you required was in the room and there was a good selection on the tea tray and again this was refilled daily.
The Staff in all areas of the Hotel were exceptional and went out of their way to help you. The Food was superb and we had breakfast and dinner every day. A great selection to suit every palate and piping hot food.
We all had such a lovely time and look forward to returning.

My wife and I took the train from Edinburgh to Aberdeen, Scotland and subsequent exiting the train we visited the beautiful mall adjacent to rail station. My wife had reserved our room at the Atholl Hotel online so after supper at the mall we began our walking journey toward the hotel. Be advised that a “surveying” business 1.5 miles from the hotel also uses the name “Atholl” so don’t make the mistake on your GPS of searching by name only…verify your address on 54 Kings Gate Street. We walked approximately 2-miles including our wrong location so if you’re dragging luggage I suggest a cab or bus from the rail station to the hotel…there is a bus stop on Kings Gate approximately 3-blocks from the hotel. Upon arrival to the hotel I was impressed by the upper scale community and the beautiful appearance of the Atholl. The lady at the front desk was very kind and helpful at check-in. Our room (#11) was incredibly nice, well designed, comfortable and spotless. The bed was very comfortable as well. It took me a minute or two to figure out the hot water access for the shower but the bathroom was very clean and functional. I was very impressed with the Waitstaff at breakfast. There is no buffet but the Atholl provides a personal waitress who serves you from a menu sure to please even the most picky breakfast consumer. In conclusion, I was most impressed by the quality and value of the Atholl Hotel in Aberdeen, Scotland…extremely nice people, an “at home” feel in beautiful Scotland.

21 but no jackpot here.

Was given room 21. Opened window at night as very hot. The room is directly above 2 refrigerator cooling fans (see pic) and they hum all night. It is like having a car engine idling outside the window or the bathroom extraction fan left on. They do switch off but only for a short spell as they come on and off randomly and when running in tandem it’s even noisier. Even with the window closed the droning noise is so annoying! I raised this issue with a member of staff after our first night. He arrogantly said ‘Well you know not to book that room next time you come ‘. Next time ??? You must be joking! There won’t be a next time especially after I found out the gentleman I spoke to (Mr. Gordon Sinclair) was the part owner. Absolutely shocking response! ‘Family business, proudly independent but......couldn’t care less!’

There are a few other rooms along the wall where the fans are & undoubtedly they must hear the drone also.
To make matters worse I noticed on Trip Adviser from 2015, a guest had the same complaint & the response from hotel was ‘We will investigate the issue’. What is there to investigate ?? It’s a constant drone from refrigerator fans! I’m certain these fans can be noise insulated but obviously hotel not interested.
So 4 sleep interrupted nights was no fun!
We have been to dozens of hotels over the years and never felt the need to complain but the way we were pawned off just got out backs up.

My wife and I are now regular visitors to the Atholl Hotel and the main reason for this is because of the service we receive. The staff, most of whom have worked at the Atholl for many years, are just superb. Nothing is too much and their concern your your wellbeing is second to none. It truly provides, as a previous reviewer commented, 10 star service.
The dinner menu provides great variety and breakfasts are substantial ... the Atholl has a very good team in the kitchen.
Parking is plentiful and free and the venue is always busy.
Prices are very reasonable and the rooms that we have stayed in have been extremely comfortable.
A great place to stay when visiting Aberdeen.

We have stayed at the Atholl many times over many years, and were pleased to witness during our recent stay that the Atholl has continued its high standard or service and quality post-pandemic. It was wonderful to see so many long time, professional employees once again, and no signs of staff shortages and service gaps that we have witnessed many times at other venues.

The food and beverage service is outstanding, and the hotel continues to have a very strong restaurant and bar following from local patrons. The hotel is clean and immaculate, efficient, and continues to stand the test of time. We look forward to returning again soon!

This is a very well run lovely hotel but it is a little dated.
Got in late and left early but noted that it seems to be in a quiet neighbourhood and a car or bus ride to restaurants.
Restaurant on the premise and it looks to be a favourite with the locals as well.
Our meal was just average
Breakfast offered was substantial and included all the standards.
Those with mobility issues may want to clarify in advance where their room is located.
Ours included some stairs which was unexpected.
Staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel booking was made solely based on location as we had a family emergency requiring a trip to Aberdeen at very short notice. The staff showed empathy and were incredible going above and beyond to accommodate every need. Food, accommodation and everything else was all you could ask for and then there was the staff who deserve 11 out of 10. No hesitation in recommending this hotel.

We always use the Atholl Hotel whenever we are in Aberdeen. Excellent prices, really comfortable rooms and the staff are very kind and thoughtful. The restaurant is good value with a fine choice of food and wines to meet everyone’s taste. Quietly located on the outskirts of Aberdeen, the main town is within easy reach for business or just retail therapy. A great place to stay with staff that will always go the extra mile for customers to ensure you have a comfortable stay. We can only highly recommend the Atholl Hotel as we always look forward too our time there.

Stayed for 2 nights, the room was lovely, very comfortable bed. Staff were very professional yet friendly, and very helpful - they kindly arranged an early breakfast for me as I had an early start one day. Highly recommended, would be my first choice for staying in Aberdeen!
