Malmaison Aberdeen garners praise for its cleanliness and welcoming atmosphere, with guests highlighting the spotless and comfortable accommodations. While the rooms earn accolades for their size and comfort, a few guests have pointed out issues with poor lighting and dated aesthetics.
The hotel's staff is frequently commended for their friendly and helpful demeanor, though there have been occasional reports of service inconsistencies. Despite the commendable amenities, some travelers feel that the hotel's value is compromised by steep prices and unsatisfactory dining experiences.

Stayed overnight in this hotel last week whilst visiting family and friends in and around Aberdeen. Great location out of the city centre with a car park. Our room was upgraded to a superior suite on arrival at no additional cost. Hospitality was first class. Our room was beautiful, safe and secure in these troubled times of Covid 19. No contact during check-in and room key was in a sanitised sealed envelope. Our room was spotlessly clean and items such as TV remote etc were all sealed. Huge, comfy bed and gorgeous bathroom. Although we didn't eat in the hotel the food menu looked enticing. We enjoyed a few drinks in the bar in a very socially distanced spot with excellent table service. Late check out at 11am is always welcome. We would definitely return again for a longer stay. Well worth it. Highly recommend.

On a visit to the granite city we wanted a last minute city centre hotel booking and this one offered value for money, 2 nights in a club room for £318. The hotel consists of an older building to the front with an ultra modern extension to the rear. Otherwise typical appearance of a malmaison hotel. Sat nav takes you to the front door but there is limited parking there, 4 spaces mostly for disabled parking, as the whole front is dedicated to overspill from the bar. There is ample parking to the rear but even then it was full on our arrival but we got a space within 10 minutes. You need to negotiate the stairs to reception but we received an extremely warm welcome. Our room was in the older building to the front. The corridor area is bland in comparison to the rest of the hotel but the room was spacious with complimentary chocolates, nespresso coffee, robes and slippers a nice touch. The shower was first class. We only ate breakfast at the hotel but it was well cooked and an enjoyable experience apart from the need to queue to make a tea or coffee from the one machine servicing the whole restaurant…that was irritating and when one considers that the toast was served to the table there is surely the ability to do so with beverages. All in all though, a comfortable stay and good value for money.

Overall our stay at the Malmaison was very good, the staff were very friendly and the room we stayed in was nice.
Pros:
Large spacious room tastefully decorated.
Comfortable bed.
Good Covid safety measures.
Nice extra's (sweets and coffee).
Staff were all very friendly, professional and informative.
Cons
Room generally was a bit tired with some loose fittings and grubby shower enclosure.
Breakfast was not that great, while the continental selection was good, the cooked breakfast we received was awful. Luke warm, everything cooked in tons of salt and pepper, rubberiest black pudding i have ever tried to eat. £18? not worth it.
Air conditioning unit made a considerable amount noise, even when turned off!
Cold water tap screeched and other guests taps could be heard screeching as well!
This was our second stay at a Malmaison, so we pretty much knew what to expect. I think we would only stay again if we found a deal on the rooms, they arent quite worth the full price.

I booked this hotel before departing Australia, upon arrival to UK, due to a number of factors, we required to change location to the Malmaison Dundee which incurred a fee. Fair enough. While travelling both children fell ill and I called Malmaison Dundee to change accommodation back to Aberdeen as it was closer. Sigourney, the weekend manager said no, they had already helped me once out of “goodwill” (even though they are a chain and charged a fee?). I said I had paid a change fee and was willing to pay another. Again she said no. I then called Malmaison Aberdeen who managed to change her mind. Upon arrival I paid a further £85, now taking my booking which started out at £271, to a total of £353. We were allocated our rooms, clearly the bottom of the barrel for us for making a fuss, we had adjoining rooms basically in the car park overlooking a skip and loading dock, on the basement floor at rear of building. Also, the brasserie, one of the main reasons for booking this property, is closed for renovation, a fact that was never mentioned at any time during booking, meaning eating breakfast lunch and dinner in a small dinghy bar with my children. I decided to cut my losses and not remember Aberdeen by this experience. Upon checkout, the receptionist couldn’t have cared less as to why I was checking out a day early and was more interested in whether I had used the mini bar. I confirmed that we hadn’t, however, if this was the case, surely the extra night fully paid would cover this.

At reasonably short notice I decided to book a night away for myself and my boyfriend for some much needed relaxation. I booked the winter deal and to make it more special I upgraded to a terrace suite while booking.
Our first impressions were very good. The staff member who checked us in was very nice and the room initially looked very spacious and impressive - especially the back to back TVs and the bathroom (double monsoon showers and a lovely bath). There was no TV remote and the window/door to the terrace was blowing open and closed in the wind but we went to reception and both issues were resolved in a timely manner.
We had been told at check in that we could either have our cocktails (part of the winter deal) in the bar or have them delivered to our room. We rang down to the bar and arranged to have them brought to the room. Again, the service was good. We were able to opt for other drinks rather than cocktails and they were delivered quickly.
However.
Once we had settled into the room it became clear that it wasn't as impressive as it had initially seemed. Lots of the surfaces were dusty/dirty and there were a couple of cobwebs throughout. There were hairs in the sink, one of the lights in the bathroom didn't work and one of the showers seemed to only dispense ice cold water (thankfully the second was okay).. also no showercaps so difficult to avoid getting hair wet.
None of these issues individually would have been a big deal but they did all combine to create a rather underwhelming effect.
Another (admittedly minor) issue is the lack of plug sockets near the bed. It seems odd that both people can't charge their phones without one being at the other end of the room.
The biggest issue with the stay though was the noise. I can understand that the hotel can't be responsible for the amount of noise made by individual guests but I do question the installation of such loud sound systems in suites that aren't soundproofed. The room next door were playing loud music well into the night which was definitely not conducive to a good night's sleep. The fact that they were also sharing our outdoor terrace area did not help the situation. I acknowledge that when booking the room the website did say that terraces were shared, but I naively assumed that this meant they would be reasonably soundproof.
Added to this, when the wind got up during the night, the window began rattling loudly. This continued constantly until morning and was very disturbing.
I should say that all staff we encountered were very polite, friendly and helpful. Including the lady at check out who was very sympathetic when we reported the noise issue. Breakfast was fine, although the cups at our table were dirty. The atmosphere was relaxed and the hot food arrived in good time.
Unfortunately though, rather than the relaxing stay I had been hoping for I had one of the worst night's sleep in a long time. I'm really disappointed and, to be honest, I wish I'd just saved my money (especially the money spent upgrading to the terrace suite!).

As a regular customer of Chez Mal Bar and Restaurant, I was astonished during my last visit to this establishment (one that lasted approximately 10 minutes from start to finish) so much so, it inspired me to write my first ever trip advisor review.
Upon walking through the door my partner and I were greeted by a young man behind the bar who rudely growled the following words to us... “errr masks”, a little taken back by this we asked if we were required to wear masks inside the bar & the young man insisted in an incredibly rude manner “there is a sign on the door” (I’m not sure how many customers read signs when entering a bar/ restaurant that they’ve been to a thousand times but I certainly did not).
In utter shock at his attitude, we proceeded to ask if we were able to sit at a nearby table for a drink to which he responded:
“First of all, that table is reserved so you can’t sit there, will you be eating?” We advised that we’d only be staying for a drink so the barman proceeded to point at a hidden away little table behind a group of people and stated “you can sit there”. We weren’t shown to our table nor explained the system which customers were using to order drinks, simply pointed to a table a left to wait for someone to approach us (which was about 5 minutes).
After finally sitting down, another young man came over and explained that we had to use a system to order drinks from the bar by downloading an app so by this point the overall experience was laughable ams we got up and left.
Having hosted large dinners and events at this high end establishment and spent many evenings and weekends there with friends and family I did not expect to feel so disrespected and patronised from a young man working in the hospitality business.
Malmaison may want to spend some time training the young and clearly inexperienced staff to attend to the customers walking through the door in a polite manner and educate them on the changes made! After all these people are spending their money supporting them during pandemic and during this troubling time, one that has affected the hospitality industry greatly, staff members should make people feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible so that they wish to return in the future, which I do not.

Hi Valeria, Thank you for taking the time to write your first ever Trip Advisor. As you and your partner are regular guests of Malmaison it saddens me we are communicating via Trip Advisor as I would have hoped we could have had this conversation in person on the night or contacted myself directly regarding this since we have known each other so well over the years. I am however very unhappy to hear of your 10 minute experience in our bar. Our new Covid-19 procedures and policies which Malmaison set & were assessed by the EHO and Aberdeen City council are that our guests are required to wear face masks in the hotel as they enter unless at a table when eating and drinking. So as guests enter the hotel they should be reminded to wear face masks at all times in public areas, unless seated or exempt. We do have signs up to advise our guests this upon entering. I appreciate you have walked through our doors over a thousand times but this is a new world we are all living in and things have changed. We have limited table space in the bar again to adhere to social distancing so I am glad to hear you were able to get a table on a Saturday night. Upon seating, (unless a resident at the hotel or a brasserie guest dining with us) we would then ask for track and trace to be completed for everyone’s safety & well-being during this ongoing global pandemic. We also have an app called BonniApp which you can download. Then you can order your own drinks to the table via your own mobile phone making the whole process, contactless, paperless & therefore the only contact at your table being your drinks getting delivered to you. This again is for your own safety and well-being, as we are trying to keep everyone safe and protected during an unprecedented time. This new process takes a couple minutes to talk through after being seated but once done is pretty straight forward thereafter. The young man who greeted you was AJ the same bartender who has received the last 7...."5 star....superb bar experience ....trip advisor reviews!" so I am very surprised by your comments and will fully be investigating your version of events with my team on duty. As rudeness and attitudes is not tolerated. As you know from previous experiences at Malmaison this is not our normal standard of service and is something new so I would have hoped you would have given us more than 10 minutes to become accustomed to understand and appreciate our new efforts towards social distancing and keeping everyone safe. This as you can imagine is a great deal more work and is a very stressful time for all involved regarding Covid-19 our procedures & policies in hospitality have changed and simply walking in for a drink has now also changed. Maybe some premises are handling it differently but we have been assessed and got written confirmation we were safe to trade at the highest of standards. Therefore we will continue to adhere by them, as this is something we are taking very seriously. Our team have been trained before they even returned to work for their first shift and then again on shift thereafter. As per your TripAdvisor I can see that our team were following our new rules and guidelines to the tee. As a regular visitor of Mal I would hate to think your last 10 minutes bar experience have marred the years of good and I will be reaching out to you personally. Kindest Regards, Rebecca Crouch

My friend and I had a bad experience last year. Although we couldn’t fault the food the service had been very disappointing. We decided to try the afternoon tea again yesterday and I’m pleased to say that it was a totally different experience. The food was great as usual but the service was excellent. Our waiter took our order, asked for dietary requirements and then took the time to explain what was on the stands when he came back with them. The waitress was also very attentive and between them they made sure we had everything we required. We were asked a few times if the food was ok and frequently offered tea and drinks. This is the type of service that makes you want to return and we certainly will. Well done Malmaison, glad to see you’ve turned things around.

Overpriced food and drinks, friendly, attentive staff. Excellent location for us as we had to be near Aberdeen infirmary.
Room was lovely with a super comfortable bed, crisp clean sheets.
Excellent bathroom, with amazing shampoo/conditioner/shower gell etc, really power shower.
We decided to order room service at 9pm as you have the option of “nite bites” which is a little cheaper only to be told call back 9:30pm despite advertising from 9pm.
Called back 9.30pm to be advised only a la cart menu available, so we chose to leave it.
Some were for a special occasion which you can save for, unfortunately we didn’t have that option due to personal circumstances

This is the third Malmaison hotel I’ve stayed in and by far my favourite. As always the staff are super helpful and friendly. Right now they are offering a great covered outdoor seating available and despite not booking ahead they found us a table as we were guests. The hotel itself was immaculate. Great room with bottles of water & chocolates. I love a quiet room at night and ours was on the lower ground and it was so peaceful and calm. Great boutique hotel. The bar and restaurant is quirky and stylish. Will definitely be back. There’s also parking available in their small car park at the rear.

I've heard mixed reviews about Malmaison. I think it depends on what room you're given. Some of them are quite small and dark. Not sure about The Chester.
Hi
Sorry I haven't used if they do
I would call the Chester next food and see what they can do for you, miles better in terms of quality and more romantic
