We came across this restaurant when staying in carnoustie and I'm pleased we did. The food was fantastic - I had Pakora and lamb jalfrezi and it was authentic. The meat had been marinaded and was a delight to eat. The waitress was very friendly and attentive and even got the kids their dinner first so we could enjoy ours later.

Decent local pub with nice staff. Just moved into the town and I was looking for a local pub. This place is dead thru the week and apart from Friday nights, dead all weekend. Meals we have had are very good, as is the carry out. My big problem is that they seem to be constantly running out of beer. Not fancy cask ales, but your standard pub beers. Stella Artois, Coors Lite and Tennant Lager. There are more beer taps with glasses on them, indicating they are out, than there are with beer. Not sure who does the stock taking and ordering, but he needs a shake up and a calculator. Surely it’s easy to calculate consumption of different beers with modern tills. The other pubs I have used in the town don’t seem to have these shortage issues. It has to be down to the Aboukir management, or lack of it. Shame as it’s a long walk to the other pubs from my house, but at least they have beer.

Meal was excellent. Service was good but slow but our waitress had no mask on. If she is exempt she should have worn a visor. Some tables were not socially distant. They will have to make changes when new law comes into force on 14th.

Decided to take advantage of the dine out to help out scheme by visiting the Aboukir for the first time. I can certainly say it will also be the last time. What a horrible experience it was. Tables were squashed together with no regard for the 2 metre rule, which they even had posters on the wall referring to. Track & Trace was a notepad which was handed to you at your table and you were asked to write in your name and number. This notepad was then past to every other table who came in - a clear breach of data protection! I asked for a straw for my drink which was handed to me by the waitress who was holding the end of the straw I needed to drink from! The waitress who took our order was distracted by her Apple Watch ringing & stopped to tell us a story about her son who kept ringing her.
Only one waitress was wearing a visor, none of the other staff wore any form of PPE. So there was no consistency.

We sat for over 30 mins for our starter to arrive. It was only poppadoms!! We were given no napkins and had to ask the waitress for some. By the time we had been there for around 15 mins lots more tables came in. The place was loud, rowdy and had the feel of being in the middle of a pub on a Saturday night rather than somewhere to eat a meal. My partner & I couldn’t even hear each other so conversation was impossible. After waiting over another 30 mins for our mains to arrive we decided we’d had enough & left our table to pay for our drinks and leave. We were offered another table in a quieter area but by this point we’d had enough and wanted to leave. Manageress explained that sometimes staff forget about certain procedures when it gets a bit busy and that social distancing is our responsibility too. Still not quite sure how it’s my responsibility to make sure their tables are 2m apart!
We were offered our food which was almost ready (75 mins after arriving) to take away which we accepted as by this point we were hungry and thought if all else maybe the food will be decent and we can eat it in peace at home. Sadly even the food couldn’t save this experience. Even at 50% off I feel robbed!

It was the first & definitely will be the last time I visit the Aboukir & I won’t hesitate to tell others about the lack of social distancing and the breach of data protection.

What a fabulous week we had with the Aboukir Hotel being our base for the week 8th to 15th september. We got upgraded too room 5 and what a room was massive, spotless, larg bathroom, great powerful shower, plenty towels changed as often as you required. The view from our room was brilliant. The restaurant was lovely and what a great lunch and also dinner menu, great choices and fresh made and great portions. The staff in the hotel are brilliant,Nadia always greets you with a smile and Happy the cleaner is lovely cheerful and very smiley, the bar staff and waiters/waitresses are a credit to this hotel. Bar is well stocked for a small hotel.Give it a go if you get too Carnoustie.

We had a lovely meal in the Aboukir this evening. Social distancing was great, staff all wore masks and the track and trace was recorded by the staff on a clip board. Nobody was standing around the bar and everybody was seated. When we arrived the lady seated us immediately and made sure we were comfortable with having small children. The food was absolutely outstanding. We will definitely revisit. I was concerned visiting a pub/restaurant given the circumstances but the Aboukir definitely had all the the boxes ticked. Will 100% be back.

When going for a meal with my friends during a day trip to Carnoustie we had such a bad experience. One of the employees I think his name was (Mark or Marcel) was incredibly rude when we confronted him that our table hadn’t had any service yet he told us that they were very busy and didn’t have time for us yet. It took around 1 hour for this employee to come back to us to offer any sort of service even though we asked multiple times to be catered to due to our train times being very limited. Once we actually received our drinks they were watered down and our food was freezing cold. 0/10 for everything. Do NOT recommend. 😖

I can’t fault the food, It was delicious! However, waiting over an hour+ for our main without any indication of when it was arriving is unacceptable. Having kindly asked various staff on more than one occasion if our meal was ready, they would not return to provide us with any updates. This would be a little understanding if the establishment was full to the brim with customers but this was not the case. Finally, when the food arrived it was great as previously mentioned. Having considered the lengthy time waiting on the mains, we were apprehensive to stay for desert so asked a member of staff how long they thought it would take.. they estimated roughly 20 minutes... try another hour+!! Again, we were left with no updates. At this point we considered asking for the bill and leaving it at that but decided to ask a member of staff one last time if the deserts were on their way. The member of staff looked at us with confusion as if we hadn’t ordered anything! They then proceeded to bring the deserts out separately, 4-5 minutes in between (and also cold). Again, unacceptable. Although they apologi and decided not to charge us for deserts (that’s what we thought..). To summarize, the evening was hindered by what can only be described as unprofessional confusion from staff and a lot waiting around. To top it off, we were overcharged and had to read out our bill to members of staff before it was corrected. Wow. We Sadly won’t recommend this establishment and definitely won’t be back.

We stayed here for one night as part of a random couple of nights away.
So glad I chose this Hotel

From the warm friendly greeting through dinner drinks and breakfast I had the distinct feeling that nothing would have been too much trouble.

The rooms are huge and comfortably appointed the whole place is clean and especially given the COVID 19 restrictions they are doing remarkably well.

The food was delicious and plenty of it.

I would have to be really picky and petty to find fault
