Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I've given a three star review simply because there isn't a good option just an average and very good. Oak cottage is lovely and spacious, I can't fault it internally BUT we booked this cottage specifically for a dog friendly break and needed an enclosed garden as it was advertised on cottages.com. There is NO enclosed lawned garden, in fact for this cottage there is no private outdoor space at all and this needs to be made clearer before booking. We have 4 spaniels so this was an important selling point for us and the only disappointment. It meant we had no choice but to toilet our dogs in the shared courtyard. We obviously cleaned up but it's not ideal for dogs. Fortunately we had some open woodland to the side which was also the path to the paddock. So they toileted off lead discreetly in the woodland. The paddock itself is great and not far but not for first thing in the morning and last thing at night. We did enjoy our break and we spent most of our time out but having an enclosed garden as advertised would have made all the difference. We won't be returning simply because it doesn't suit our needs.

Excellent vegan breakfast. Friendly staff. The house is big, charming, comfortable, beautifully decorated. Lovely conservatory with view. Spacious bedrooms. A good location for walks in the hills although nothing much that starts/ends right here. Wifi internet is spotty; only reliable in the lobby; world's longest password 🙂

Only stayed one night here but found it very comfortable and quiet. The standard of linen and towels was top quality. Breakfast was delicious and the owners Anson and Jen couldn’t have been more helpful. Great value for money.

Stayed here for two nights in the family suite. The room is small but clean and had everything we needed: a full bed and two singles. My boys were so happy to have their own beds. Shower is small. The grounds are beautiful and we were lucky to have excellent weather. Could do without the midges, but they were less prominent in town. We spent both evenings in the cozy living room, winding down and enjoying a beer from Fyne brewery. Anson, the owner, was so attentive and kind. What a busy guy! His suggestions for the castle hike and music festival (in Inverary) were spot on! Breakfast is truly an experience not to be missed. The breakfast room is large and sunny. You start with toast, coffee, juice, and yogurt, then add one of three hot options. Three of us had the vegan Scottish breakfast. My youngest son has the pancakes. My oldest son was skeptical about the plant based breakfast, but was won over by the vegan sausage and soy scramble. My youngest son didn’t even realize the yogurt was dairy free. Dogs are very welcome here and we were happy to get some pets in as we are missing ours back at home. Extra points for the owners because several of their dogs are rescues from thailand. Excellent stay!

We spent last week in Hawthorn cottage at Killean. Its our second time there and didnt disappoint. Comfy ,cosy with everything you need to relax and unwind. Very near Inverary if you want to eat out. The dog paddock is great to let your pooches go wild .. We had a lovely breakfast this morning at the farmhouse before we set off on the drive home. Jenny and Anson are great hosts ..nothing is a problem. We always feel so welcome when we arrive . Its such a beautiful part of the world. So much to see if you go out and about a breathtaking view round every bend .. well worth the effort to get there😊

Loved our stay here with our dogs. Jenny and Anson welcomed us and there's a safe paddock for the dogs to run. Clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Would definitely come again. It's midgey outside so our midge nets came in useful!

We'll definitely be back to Killean Farmhouse. Very comfy bed and delicious vegan breakfast, and we're not vegan! It's the perfect place to stay, nothing was too big a problem for Anson. We were well looked after.

Lovely setting just outside of Inverary. Lots of grounds for dog walking - and a very dog friendly experience overall. Vegan breakfast delicious (we are not vegan): pancakes were beautiful as was my husband's traditional cooked breakfast.
