Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

HORRIBLE VILE SCAMMERS Had few issues and was looking like I couldn’t make booking. Advised by owner to cancel and if they sold room would refund me. On the day my situation changed and could make stay after all. I called and asked if room that I paid for was still available. Owner shouted that I wasn’t getting refund as room not resold also told I wasn’t welcome then hung up the phone to me. AVOID AT ALL COSTS !!!!

We arrived at approx 17.00 - I'd previously written to Sue and Johnny explaining about my hypersensitivities- paet of my Fibromyalgia and that we would bring all of our own bedding/pillows etc as we use Fragrance free products. Pulling up at the front door to unload we were met with - you can't park there park over there - I explained we are disabled and had a lot to unpack! John moved the car to beside the huge yellow painted rock with CAR PARK written on it. How to win friends and influence people came to mind as to the way we were greeted not 'paying' guests!! Sue was very understanding and cleaned the room without using anything with an odour and left the mattress bare as we'd asked. No kettle in room - very difficult for us to either have a coffee/tea or hot water any time we felt like it. I was up often overnight due to another condition and could have murderd a coffee on a couple of occasions. But if we wanted coffee it necessitated us going into the lobby to make it there. We always have our own cafetiere and coffee beans and lactofree milk with us - and would have made a flask of coffee and tea for the journey today. We had an early night and were up early for our pre booked breakfast at 7.00 am however I was not able to leave the room for breakfast - John went to the dining room and asked if possible could I have mine on a tray and straight away Johnny took Uxbridge ' we don't do things like that here' this necessitated in John having to explain another one of my conditions - he was very embarrassed - on hearing this Sue kindly made me up a tray of breakfast - of course I would have enjoyed breakfast with John at the dining table. Johnny cooked breakfast and disappeared to his 'much discussed computer' noted in his blog. If the weather had been nice we would have enjoyed breakfast outside on the slippy deck - with a tiny slate stating - be careful of deck when wet - surely a smaller bright yellow rock with the information on would have been easier to see. Sue was the perfect hostess - and was very understanding about my requirements - it's a very stressful business going on holiday and I always make sure f my requirements on booking. An experience spoilt which we had been looking forward to for a while. Johnny please greet people with courtesy to welcome them not just open the door and yell at them - we could have been mystery guests assessing for ratings or royalty !!

Everything about the stay was perfect, from the massive bed, ultra clean room, the welcome, the actual building itself and lastly but the very best the breakfast! Cannot highly recommend enough. Will definitely be staying again! Dave & Sarah Wilson

WARNING! The management of this place is terrible! They cancelled my reservation and then charged me anyway. When I phoned to ask them to process the refund, the manager shouted at me and ultimately hung up on me.

We had a one night stay on our way to Islay . Easy 10 minutes from Inveraray. Stunning grounds. Such a lovely welcome. Beautiful room , spotlessly clean , loved having a patio door . We slept so well in the huge bed . Lovely breakfast the next day , chatting away . Highly recommend

This is a beautiful building in fabulous gardens, with meandering mown pathways through wild flowers. Inside, it’s been really nicely designed and the welcome was very warm. At the end of a long day’s driving, we were met with homemade scones and cakes, a pot of tea and even an ice cold Diet Coke for me. The bed was so comfortable that the only thing which persuaded me out of it, was a marvellous breakfast - with great vegetarian options. It’s very dog friendly and the two resident boxers were a delight. We’d have no hesitation in recommending Powdermills to friends, or visiting again ourselves.

John and Sue Campbell were excellent hosts for our one night with them. The property seems to have been purpose built as a B&B and has done so exceedingly well. Our room was the "McLaren", one of three beautifully appointed en-suite rooms looking out over an extended garden area. We were encouraged to take a walk in the grounds which we did, passing the old, now derelict, eponomous Powdermill in the process. Definitely to be recommended without hesitation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Powdermills B&B. John and Sue are amazing hosts. Rooms were large and modern with comfortable beds, fluffy towels, and a lovely warm shower. Our room had a view over their gardens and toward the loch. Breakfast was prepared exactly as you'd like it - and you sat in a lovely living room to enjoy the meal. Tea and coffee were available in a bright sitting room, and we were greeted upon arrival with tea, coffee and pastries. It is about 15 minutes from Inverary. John and Sue made the stay feel as if we were visiting friends....a truly wonderful place to stay.

What can I say. Amazing. On arrival we were greated warmly and offered tea and coffee and were brought cakes as well. After a long day and drive this was fantastic. The dogs were welcomed. There are rules for dogs which are easy to follow. We loved the room and the stay and it was a shame we couldn't have more than a night here. We will be back to enjoy the area more. The breakfasts were amazing. This was by far the best hotel on our trip. Fab

Stayed for 1 night after completing the NC500. The stay was really nice and the hosts were very friendly and helpful. The room was fab and the facilities were really good. A very helpful book was available regarding f things in the area which is helpful. Would definitely stay again if our that way. The breakfast was great for both myself as a vegetarian, there was a great selection.
