Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Brilliant night at the George Hotel with live music and great food! The staff are fun and friendly and the pub/restaurant area have a great atmosphere. There was plenty of dancing and everyone who we spoke to who worked there are a credit to the hotel. Oh and I absolutely love the fairy lights on the ceiling, they look great!

5* service brilliant team of people and amazing food what an absolute pleasure to of met them. Kieron made me feel very welcome and looked after me very well he’s an absolute legend an asset for the team 100%. Sean in the restaurant was another stand out, amazing service good laughs very helpful and kind he also looked after me well. All in all absolutely made my time in Inveraray. The place was clean warm and hearty and it’s amazing that the place has been passed down for over 6 generations as a truly independent pub. Breakfast was perfect wholesome hearty and good staff with nice dining and selection. Dinner & lunch were absolutely spectacular the sourcing of the produce from their own game keeper and fisherman just shows how well they take pride in their local high quality ingredients. Thank you to an amazing team and amazing friendly staff. I’ll be back very soon. Sam the painter 🎨

The George Hotel has gone right downhill. We visit yearly to stay and this year we didn’t book to stay as the weekend this time last year was £360 for two nights but the same booking this year is £540. Food options are now very limited and the meal we had was only mediocre. No value for money and generally poor, so much so we cancelled our Saturday night dinner booking. Complained to the manager as his waiting staff were swearing at each other on the way past our table which as a customer I do not want to hear when out for a meal.

A family lunch crowned by the best Sunday Carvery Roast Beef lunch in many years ! Up with Simpsons of The Strand in olden days, anytime! And, served by most pleasant, efficient and knowledgeable folk. (Only sorry there was no haunch of venison on the menu). Keep up the good work..Michael, Glasgow

I live in Argyll and found myself with a few hours to kill whilst waiting on my bus home so visited the George in the evening. Luckily I had booked in advance as I know how busy/popular it can be even in November. I arrived early and was greeted immediately by friendly staff. Had a drink in the cosy bar whilst waiting on my table. Lovely bar service. I was taken to my table and served by Lauren who was superb - friendly, cheerful, and efficient. I was not rushed and had a superb meal - aubergine curry and a sticky toffee pudding to die for! The toilets and general dining/bar area are very clean. I very much look forward to being "stuck" in lovely Inveraray again soon - so that I can eat and drink at the George. Thank you Lauren.

We brought up friends from England to visit Scotland for the first time expecting to have a nice time, that’s not what happened. The bar staff was continuously rude to us, especially the 2 young girls we have with our, we were extremely disappointed with this service and would definitely recommend to stay well away.

Terrible, I would not recommend this first contribution from a sad sniper. This person should not be permitted 4G or wifi access. Go to your loft and find something more engaging to distract yourself with.

Arrived about 1 o’clock to have a wine with two friends to then be seated to a room with only us in it , I had a table booked for the evening and just if we could get a table in the main bar at night time . The waitress said that was only for guests and we would sitting the the same dark room in the corner table. When I said we we’re just going leave it as we did not come to the George to sit in the side room in a with a Table stuck behind the door she then offered us another table which was not much better, there loss as they would have got about £150 from us with meals and drinks . Very poor customer service

Hi Yvonne, Sorry to hear you feel that our customer service is not up to scratch. As you can see from our other reviews, our staff are usually highly praised for their friendly and helpful attitudes. Customer service is our top priority, and as such we would never intend to upset you or put you off. As the season starts to get a little quieter, we are limited in what areas we can open. We usually have a few areas open for dining, and other areas for those who just looking for a drink or a coffee. The whole bar area and side rooms are all lit in the traditional George atmospheric style, we certainly don't have any dark rooms. Should you have a specific table request, it is always best to ask in advance as again we are limited to what space we have available to use. We don't specifically hold certain areas for guests, however both residents and non-residents can book and request certain tables in advance. This therefore limits what tables we can offer. It's a shame to hear you missed out on a lovely meal with us due to the table not being to your liking. I do hope you return again in future and give us another chance. Kind Regards The George Team

Stayed for a night at the George, room number 6, wow what a spacious room with jacuzzi bath in it. Comfy bed, could be a bit loud in the night because of live music, but we loved the musics and we should have joined in downstairs to enjoy live music. It didnt really bother us. Lovely breakfast, freshly baked pain au chocolate and croissant, and beauitful kipper fish, friendly team. Will deffo come back.

Evening Neville, thank you for your feedback. Mo sounds like she knows what she likes. Our staff are well trained and we have good floor to kitchen communication. No al dente broccoli, not a problem for the kitchen. Let us know next time. Glad to hear the food was nice.
